Myself and 5 friends were in line by around 6:30 a.m. It was dark when we entered the tunnel, but we walked all the way to the front to ask a police officer to see where we were supposed to go. The ball we had tickets to that night made up for a LOT of it.
I was there too, and you guys really capture it. The coolest part was singing Lean on Me! Thanks to everyone who was there, including my new friends from Alaska and LA who i was separated from and never got an address!
I wasn't there myself, by my parents went. They didn't get stuck in the tunnel (they had yellow tickets), but they were in a no less organized situation and saw yellow and orange ticket holders get locked out..
Anyway, great song! I'm so glad Barack is the president.
At age 72, after walking over 2 hours from Arlington and standing 5 hours in the PTOD, I could barely make my arthritic knees hobble home. I was sad for me but overjoyed at the installation of Barack for the country. But now, having watched this wonderful video, I am my old self once again. Thanks for making the points that needed making with such marvelous humor!
Thanks for your kind words -- I shared your frustration on the 20th, but it was a memorable experience nonetheless, even if it was for reasons we didn't expect. Think about it this way: 240,000 got to see Barack inaugurated -- only 10,000 or so got to experience the Tunnel!
What key is this song in and what are the chords? I'm anxious to sit down and play this on the piano for the sake of my own entertainment. I didn't have a purple ticket, but I had a silver one and experienced pretty much the same thing.
I was there in yet another crowd. The lines were long and city officials were not helpful at all. We were given erroneous by city officials and police officers. D.C. knew we (crowds and crowds of people) were coming, but were not prepared. They closed entranced to the metro and to the National Mall. It was disappointing to say the least. This should've been a positive experience. All I can say is that I was there. I heard, but I saw nothing. I least I was not stuck in the tunnel.
This song could really benefit from better recorded vocals, but otherwise, it's catchy, humorous, and pleasant.

are there two tunnels or maybe 2 different sections of the tunnel??
I walked thru the tunnel heading north (from Independence) about 7:30 - 8 AM, walked thru freely.
maybe i was walking on the southbound side, even though i was heading north.??
I know that when we came out from underground, we headed off to the left, might have been near H Street.
am very confused how I did not get caught in the tunnel. still never made it thru the purple gate, but at least I was not in this tunnel!!

I was there. Came in from CA. Stood in the tunnel of doom for 5 hours. I've been in tears ever since. Thanks for making me smile for the first time!
