One reason I personally support a single payer system or at the minimum, public option, is to deflate the cushy chairs of fat cat CEO insurance mobsters. Insurance = protection money, that's it. I'd rather pool my money with other people and have some real purchase power, and if 250 million of us did it, imagine how that would drive the cost of health care to spiral down, down, down. But every plan, whether paid or self-induced, should include at least an ounce (not a mere gram) of prevention.
And as I just told a good Republican friend who teeters on the crazed end of this debate, if I were the healthcare czar I'd have everybody lined up at 6 a.m. every day doing their exercises as they do in China, and then I would take away their kitchens and put them thru a holy wholesome food program. As drill sergeant, I would cattle prod their asses until they moo moo moo their way out of the slaughter house.
So you believe that the govt should become fascist and force people to do what it wants? And apparently people are no better to you than cattle?
People need to have some personal accountability. If you don't have a good diet or exercise, why is that my problem? I refuse to have compassion for people who intentionally put themselves in bad positions.
So did my mother and she was one of the architects of developing the concept of a single payer system as a state health care planner. She believed people do not deserve the million dollar treatment if they self-inflicted their conditions. She could be right. I just hate insurance companies that put people on death row by NOT doing exactly what they are there for, providing for healthcare.
So you're saying that nothing should be done about health care? Really!!! Look my mother lived a healthy life, excersized, saw her doc regularly, didn't smoke and still got cancer and died because her health ins. refused to pay for her chemo. Give me a break.
I'm not saying nothing should be done, but I do not feel that the effort being expended by the gov't is enough to create overall health in the People.
The people need to start doing more for themselves. These medical 'cure" measures are the only thing that can be straightened out by the gov't.
The major thing that they are not doing is 1) education and 2) applying "alternative" more natural therapies!
We should start from day 1, but who's responsible for providing the education, parents or schools? It's still the same ol' shitola from chinola that we must endure tyrants. And western medicine is snake oil to me, I too would like to see a lot more alternative stuff, in addition to a rigorous health maintenance program geared to keep us out of the doctor's office. Wonder why health care is so costly? I think I just said it, but in case no one heard, it's greedy margins of profit.
We have the worst and most expensive health care system in the modern world. With more people being covered, more will have access to preventative care. If we can fix our health care system then we will be able to worry about fixing the other problems with this country.
Honestly, I think we should reform our education system first. This Prussion prison camp system is pretty ineffective and there are much better ideas floating around. I think that should come before health care, but health care is up there in second.
i am awake and knows what goes on. im one the american that finally woke up early last month to know what is going on. but im praying to god to pray for hope and freedom to stay and for whatever the enemie up too. that god will make sure there plan fails. but america is waking up i say about 61% so far probly now 62%
Because god is a Capitalist and Jesus was an accountant, right? Wait, wouldn't god want everyone to be cared for? Nah, he would want about 16% of Americans to fend for themselves.
like religion and science, which needs to establish a meeting of the minds, our generation must make the honest truth, and not rhetoric&Dception, what actually leads people's actions.
Progressives could only dream of being this calm whilst trying to make sense.

Well said- education, pro active, prevention is important
but I don't think it is a red herring.....
every other industrialized nation in the world has figured out how to put people before profits.

Crateguy, that's a realistic assessment. But we need more optimism! lol
You bring up a good point, what are the priorities of this nation? Does healthcare lead into that.

is necessary as well. albeit in a new form.
