@rdfelty I'd love the see one :) Maybe if you ever do catch a go around on a flight, it would make a video. I have only had to go around once so far in my solo training, and it was a pretty interesting experience. I had 40 degrees of flaps in, and carb heat on, I put in the power then brought the carb heat out, I was still WAY too slow because of how slow I was with the flaps that I had to force it down to about 10 feet to prevent stalling. I got the thing cleaned up and climbed. Learning Exp :P
@rdfelty This was a 1983 Cessna 172N model I think... I don't know, whatever one had the 40 degrees. Since I didn't have enough room in my last comment, it's always neat to see the circumstances leading up to someones decision to go around. I really think that would be a good video for people to learn from. I wish I caught mine on video :)
Hey Rick, want to be honest with you, love your videos, but I think you are lucky that nose gear is as strong as it is :P After the second bounce of the wheel I would have been outta there :)
What a beautiful airplane you have there. Maybe when I'm old enough I'll take that up instead of my hang gliding.. Nothing better than bein' in the air.
Nice video, however you need to take the CAPS cover off prior to take off, it's part of the preflight checklist. It's kinda hard to use CAPS in an emergency, when it isn't available!
@Stack151 Not sure if they've changed it, but my POH and my training only require CAPS "pin" removal during pre-flight. So we open the velcro-attached cardboard cover, remove the pin, re-attach the cover and continue with the rest of the preflight. So in that way, the CAPS is armed and ready to go. In fact, in this video you can see the pin and its red fabric tag sitting up there in the flat section of the console.
hey any help maybe for the sr 20? i'm making my PPL on C172 and C400 , and my flightinstructor said that it will be good for me to have some experience on the sr20 , and tips maybe , how to fly it?
Nice. Do you own that plane? I have always wanted to do something like that - fly solo....lol...but I dont see it happening anytime soon. What do you do? You must be pretty rich to own a plane.
i flew here as my 2nd airport on my long solo cross country.. flew out of FRG to OQU in RI, then on to IJD, then back home...nice little airport, started raining. fun flight
This was a fun flight, very cold that day with no heat in the plane. Thinking about that now in August makes it seem even colder. Thanks for the comment.
Yes, I probably was diving for the runway a bit. I knew it was a runway on the short side for the plane and my experience level, so I was trading a little speed for getting every bit of runway. Not a great speed management approach, but a good learning experience. Thanks for the comment.
fabioflies, I will send you a link to the video I shot of the camera mounts I use. While not specifically for the Cirrus, it will give you some idea. Then I'll probably grab some stills the next time I fly to show camera mounting positions. Thanks for writing!
Thanks BeechSundowner for the comment. Yes I think the camera angle had something to do with it because the the 500 foot warning seems to happen at about the right time. But I do remember being a little high and that probably added to my being fast.
Thanks N44949. The "flying" gloves were just to keep my hands warm in a non-heated plane. But it looks cool. Next weekend might be OK. Keep your eye on it because right now Friday looks like a snow day, but Sat and Sun look OK. Still a little early to be sure.
Cool flight Rick. I have to get a pair of those flying gloves! :) I've tried to fly for the past week but the cold has seem pursist and and im not a fan of below freezing preflights. Maybe next weekend but I saw snow in the forecast. Flying in New England - Gotta Love It!
Nicely done. Just felt like you were diving for the runway video but it probably is due to the camera angle looking down I think rather then you actually nose down?

@hdeeplive Nope. No rich. I rent the planes I fly and I don't fly very often really. Sometimes I do wish I could own one.
