*Sigh* I really miss my old Escorts. OK, the first was a '68 1100 Super and the second was a 1300 Estate from the end of the 70s and both were to succumb to the old rustworm but both were fund to drive in a way that I've never found any of my other cars to be. With all the gubbins they stick in a car these days, they can never quite reproduce what the Escort had. As for the Mk.III onwards... hah! Stretch Fiestas!
@Calvertfilm I always thought it stood for Experimental Research, but I could be wrong. Either way the only one I ever owned was the XR3 - the non-injected earlier version. I'd give anything to have that car back *sigh*
This old boy now works at `carpetright` he will do you a good price on a pure wool berber or axmister, for fifty quid quentin wilson will fit it as he works there too on wednesdays and fridays.
Actually it has nothing to do with style, it isnt just some big spoiler they stuck on for show. It was designed perfectley to give the best amount of downforce. No wonder he was never approached for the new top gear
Proof positive yet again, that we here in the States get SCREWED on cars.
Would KILL for a Cosworth tuned ANYTHING really, along with nearly ANY Eurospec vehicle available, as opposed to the worthless shit we get handed by our car companies. Of course, there are exceptions to that rule, i.e Viper, Z06, and a VERY few others...
Yup! You lot do seemed to get screwed over. Your nation is so obsessed with keeping everything American made, that you miss the good stuff from abroad. I went to Wisconsin this summer and I saw about 5 cars of any note. Rest were realy bad Pontiacs and countless massive pic-ups.
Cool! Im stuck with my 106 untill i start my new job and get some money. I actualy quite like it, good fun, just too slow. Its only done 24,000 as well. Probably going to go for a Fiesta st next.
I like the styling of Pugs. They are a good looking set of vehicles. But a Fiesta ST is a great car too. If I could afford one of those as my everyday car, I'd get one. I'm a bit of a Ford man.
my 1st car was a 106 1.5D that was SLOW lol, my 2nd car was a 106 gti which is faster than the fiesta st (my dad owns one) only downside is not much space and its made very very cheaply lol ;)
he says about the spoiler WHAT A COMPLETE IDIOT thats the cosworth trade mark also he says he drove a big bhp one before but thats a small turbo he clearly doesnt know what he is talking about!!!
Just noticed that black XR3 (LYP 205X) is sitting in my model cabinet. Spooky. Tru eabout it being classless. Even Princess Di had a black Series 1 RS Turbo
Di's old car is worth a fortune! In fact her old W reg £600 Ghia Escort sold at auction for something in the range of $600,000 just because of the royal connection.
Yeah, sold for loads of money a few years ago didn't it? I've heard there were a few more made but I don't know for sure. One cropped up on eBay a while ago.
nah only one was ever made, its worth a absolute fortune, featured in fast ford few months back, some some blokes museum, ive got a few pics of it, a google image search should bring it straight up, seeing princess diana getting into it with a young harry in the back!
Well spotted. Yeah, Corgi measured this car for the 1/43rd model. Also Sunstar too when they made the 1/18th scale models but for some annoying reason they put this number plate on the yellow model! I didn't get paid for taking time off to allow them to measure my car (took all day), so the least they could do is put my plate on the correct colour car. At least Corgi were excellent in that respect, and all others. Corgi are the tops, and the model I prefer as it is more accurate.
Yes I believe so. They use the same basic measurements of LYP and then go from there. Did the same for the GL version too. These Escorts are very popular models. The Corgi one was a best-seller for them.
escort mk2 ..a simple car but, only with 13inches wheels then run through some small highways here in Malaysia..i juz can say handling juz sooo nice...i owned it since 2005..- escort rules!
i owned an escort mk2 since 2005.. i juz can say the best part of it is the car handling..with 13inches wheels run through some small highways, the result is >> SUPERB
Even though mine was built in Germany, some were made in the UK. Certainly certain elements were - my dad worked on the tooling for engine components. Much of the design elements were UK. So to me I feel I can count it as a British car.
I honestly wish they'd bring back the Escort Cosworth. Improve the aerodynamics, bump the stock BHP to 300, and just let it rape the rallyworld again.
