@laughingsal Still prefer the old hand-drawn cel animation. Just compare recent output of Disney (computer animation) compared to Studio Ghibli (mostly hand-drawn). There's no contest in terms of skill & beauty...
I love Pixar movies as much as the next guy, but a majority of computer animation just leaves me cold. And even the best of it can't duplicate the same kind of playful, organic glee that one finds in, for instance, you old pieces.
@laughingsal Did you do the ones for Ruthless People too? They were both great, and I was first introduced to Chris Rea through his song Let's Dance, which played during the Madhouse titles! (which came out in 1990, and RP was released in 1986.)
In what year was this aired? I don't remeber seeing this as a child, so I'm guessing it was after I had "outgrown" seseme street (though nobody ever really 'outgrows' Seseme Street! lol).
A few years ago to parents went out for dinner, a few hours later the baby sitter called and asked if she could cover up the clown statue is the kids room. The father replied get the kids and yourself out of the house we don't have a clown statue. It turns out that the clown was a killer. If you dont post this on 10 people's videos tonight. The clown will be in your bed with a chainsaw. Sorry I don't want this to happen to me
Does anyone remember the singing turtle? There was a song that involved pairs of bird. I remember there were a pair of Purple pigeons named Polly and Pete and a pair of black birds named Judy and Jim. Can any one tell me the name of that song?
I remember this creeping me out as a kid for some reason, though I couldn't remember what it was actually about. Also, love isn't really an emotion....
It's really something that I can remember this song after probably 10 or more years. thank you Sally for ingraining such wonderful animation into young minds such as mine. as an animator now I really see the time and effort this must have taken and the artistry. really good to watch it once again.
When I was young I lived in New York City, Because sesame street is created after that city it was influenced by all of the culture that was there. The show really opened my eyes and I feel my generation to different cultures and love for all types of people.
Of all the areas of the Island of Emotion, I'd definitely spend most of my time in the Love Lagoon 'cause I bet that'd be a great place to have my dates with my fiancee.
Especially going for a swim in the ocean, build sandcastles on the sand, etc.
This was one of my favorite Sesame Street songs growing up. I loved the animation. I think it was because I hadn't seen anything like it before and it went so well with the bouncy rhythm. Thanks!
Omg! I can't believe I found the person who made this, when I was a child this was one of my favorite songs that they always played, this and "It's hip to be a square" The animation is awesome and fits perfectly for it, I went from being happy to sad when I saw everyone else crying, and then I would turn out happy again, at the end when he touches the cloud and it rains on him I would always die laughing. This is a great animation, and it's one that inspired me to want to do animation myself!
honestly i think i was one those kids that this was really emotional for, something about the music and animation would realllly tug at my emotions and i can still feel it to some extent today
i loved this when i was little.. im 18 now and i still sing this sometimes.. god ill never get enough of this!! ya 1991 for the old skwl sesame street
An orange can be a ball, but is not too practical in the long run, in particular when you tend to hit or bounce it a lot. Still, the shape is in the right ballpark.
My emotion:Sad,because I'm missing the good old days of Seasame street(the great, classical one)now...sigh:( Thank God for Youtube, else I'll be very angry not to see these songs over.
Just cross fingers that CTW doesn't take them all down. There was a producer, Arlene Sherman, who was in charge of all these shorts, mine and others. She passed on this year, and hadn't been doing the shorts for a decade.
I need to loosen up when I make my animations. I feel like they're too serious and I don't play enough with the story. These animations really spark wonder and imagination. Mine do too but they are more practical, while these are really suggestive and they make me think about stuff lol. I really liked The "Make me Psychic" animation too.
laughinsal...u made this?!like, really?then WOW!!!you're amazing, talented and well loved by me-THE BIGGEST SEASAME STREET FAN! No one loves S.S. or this short more than me.(maybe you?)anyways, thanks for the childhood memories!
Does anyone know where I can find the sesame street clip with the girl singing about the continents, it went like this: "Africa, Antartica, Asia, Austrailia, etc.
I love this song..But my favorite one was one that said "above it all..I love to fly.." or something like that..and one about dish and the spoon...LOL I miss that.
This is when Seasme Street was good. Beofre it got all crappy And to who posted this video thanks so much. I used to have these taped on betamax but now i can see them again.
Now all I have to do is wait till Wal-Mart opens so I can get the calssic seasme street dvd.
This, along with "Above it All" and "Beginning Middle and End" were among my favorite Sesame Street shorts growing up. I just watched this again and the feeling I got was just so warm and lovely.
With another animation sketch that is never going to shown on Sesame Street. Can anybody upload a clip called Space Orchestra? Not many people remember that one.
Definitely enough so that every time one of yours came on, the mental reaction would be "Oh, this guy again." ("Guy"...there goes the male default thing )
Of all the dozens (hundreds?) of animators who did things for this show over 35-odd years, I can only think of a few, like you and Bruce Cayard, who triggered immediate recognition like that.
Love it! Always did like the wacky artwork... So it wasYOU?? *grin* Thanks for creating one of the many clips I loved as a kid. I seem to remember others in your style too...
Watched so many of your videos today with my kids. They like the old SS things I grew up with. My daughter loves the art-your wonderful style. Thanks for posting so many of my memories!

I traced off the paper drawings in "Island of Emotion" using a Tombo marker, (flexible tip), to be xeroxed. The Tombo marker gave a lively, hand drawn line. My early Ses. St. songs were xeroxed off a Niji stylist pen line, so the xeroxed line is less alive. Animating to an existing track is the greatest pleasure.
oh man. I've been going through your videos and it looks like you animated just about all of my favorite Sesame Street memories. You're incredible. Curious--what technology did you use to produce these? also, did they give you the music ahead of time?
Thanks for your nice comments! My Sesame Street songs were all animated on paper except the last one or two, which were kind of feeble-- in computer--, in the earliest days of After Effects and Photoshop. CTW would send me a demo of a song, usually sung by the composer, and I'd send back a storyboard, then receive a final track and animate to that. (cont.)
OMG, you did "Quasi at the Quackadero", one of my all-time fave animated bits! Too trippy! BTW, this delightful bit is well after my time -- I grew up with the "Jazzy Spies" and such. You do great work!
OMG I was looking for this for years!!! I loved this clip. It's the only Sesame Street clip i've ever wanted to see again. After reading the comments I guess it did have an emotional effect on me when I watched it.
Although "Above It All" seems to be the popular favorite out of your Sesame Street stuff, these are some of the most memorable 95 seconds of screen time EVER. (I can't believe it's only that long!)
I want to go to The Woods of Yow!
And I'd love to know who wrote this song. I duno about you, but I find the line "See how the breeze is blowing kisses" very evocative.
Hi Marbles, I am embarrassed that I can't remember the name of the composer, as we worked together on the song, and another piece, and he was very talented and fun. Well, we don't all have our marbles anymore I guess. Thanks for your lovely comments. Sally
When I read about the emotional responses of small children to all these cartoons long ago, it makes me take a deep breath.
I never really thought about the reponsibility of it all at the time, especially since my own daughter was so uninterested in the final product. And the vast quantities of research that CTW did to make sure they were taking the right approach seemed silly then.
This is one of my favorites of the Sesame Street Cartoons. I wasn't alive when this first aired and yet I remember seeing it many times on different episodes, They allway replayed certian cartoons and video's on the show. The Crab and thing after the crab scared me when i was young
Cool song, one of your best in my opinion. (The "huggy" animation during the verse about love still makes me say "AWWWW!" whenever that clip airs on TV.) Four stars!
See how the breeze is blowing kisses <3

Hi Marbles, I am embarrassed that I can't remember the name of the composer, as we worked together on the song, and another piece, and he was very talented and fun. Well, we don't all have our marbles anymore I guess. Thanks for your lovely comments. Sally

When I read about the emotional responses of small children to all these cartoons long ago, it makes me take a deep breath.
I never really thought about the reponsibility of it all at the time, especially since my own daughter was so uninterested in the final product. And the vast quantities of research that CTW did to make sure they were taking the right approach seemed silly then.
Hope no one is too warped because of me!

This is one of my favorites of the Sesame Street Cartoons. I wasn't alive when this first aired and yet I remember seeing it many times on different episodes, They allway replayed certian cartoons and video's on the show. The Crab and thing after the crab scared me when i was young
Devconn 5 years ago
That was a lobster that came after the crab, which I don't know why was green but it's just a cartoon so it doesn't really matter.

Cool song, one of your best in my opinion. (The "huggy" animation during the verse about love still makes me say "AWWWW!" whenever that clip airs on TV.) Four stars!

Doesn't seem classic as the 70s cartoons, but still good stuff!
