I,ve always loved this song. Noone does it better. I also have never felt it more than today-08/10/2011. Especially when I look at the news about the recall elections in Wisconsin and whats currently happening in England. Anyone have any hopeful words???
When she sings, she is so emotional, and not just her words, but every aspect of her. She becomes so much of the song she is singing that it just carries so much stronger.
Hi Jane...How about a ride down memory lane. 1976 a sunny day at Hialeah race track and you riding Bojoco down a tree shaded lane. Your song gives me back the world I remember.
When you hear Jane sing, her best songs are those that require a high level of emotion in them. This is the type of siger she is, a very strong emotional voice that can express the needed emotions of a song to its fullness.
That is not an easy style to perform, and yet she makes it look so easy!
Geneva, thanks for posting this truly remarkable song -- the finest ever written by Neil Sedaka (who is, BTW, a Sephardic Jew from Brooklyn, New York). Jane Olivor's performance is stunning, but my all-time favorite is still the one by Rick Comeaux of the Texas-based duo Atwood & Comeaux. (You can find that one on YouTube too.)
ever notice she leans over into the audience...body language she wants to convey to audience...most performers now stand on stage and isolate themselves from the audience, they stand off. I see it all the time. A kind of immaturaty
I could care less who wrote this song. As far as I'm concerned, it's Jane Olivor's song. Nobody could possibly do ONE MORE RIDE ON THE MERRY GO ROUND as good as she can. Janie's a pro!
It's so interesting , now to compare this with the later version...a different kind of passion infuses the later one....both are ..inimitable in her unique way...
You're right Peggy Lee was much duller with a lot less heart. I prefer the less comatose when it comes to the art necessary to be able to sing a song. Please, Not bad? Are you kidding?
I had the pleasure of seeing Jane Olivor in concert in 1982. She really was a very special and wonderful singer and performer. Intimate, magical and emotionally exquisite***
In 197? my Mother would play this album repeatedly. As a young rock fan I would try to ignore it until one day I found myself humming Jane's version of Vincent. It was soon put into the ELO, Genesis, Steve Miller LP rotation.
Isn't it incredible that we as parents turned our children on to such eclectic performers who were for lack of a better word FABULOUS. I aplaud your mom for playing it each day. About 77-78
She is the greatest singer in the world.
Full of feeling and warmth. You believe every
word she sings.
Thanks for the video's on You Tube, everybody who posted them!

Her voice is just so pure. She could sing the Munchkin song from Wizard of Oz and make it exceptional.

You should care about who wrote it. (Mr. Sedaka from Canada ascendent from middle east)
it takes brains to write songs like this one.
harfuch1 2 years ago
I think you're mixing up Mr Sedaka (from Canada?? Don't think so!) with Paul Anka. Janie's version is fantastic! So passionate.
jofanincan 2 years ago
No, no, no, is backward Mr. Neil Sedaka is from New York and Mr. Paul Anka is from Canada.

@harfuch1 Sedaka is a New Yorker and Anka is a Canadian

@Barbraesque Not a problem my friend, I accept your apologize.
I love both too.
I had the opotunity to see both in Mexico City back in the 60's
I attended to Paul Anka's Concert
and I shake Mr Sedaka's hand.
