Maybe he wasn't insane, but he defenately was a disgrace. Both his unsportsmanlike behaviour and cheering the deaths of innocent victims in WWII and 9/11 have diminished his chess-achievements to a point where even chessfans don't even want to remember them anymore.

Fischer's hatred of the jews stemmed from Fischer's reclusive life probably. It was hard for him to be so socially declined. So he became angry and talked bad about the jews which was a way for him to subconciously vent. And we know why he hated the U.S. the U.S. sent out a warrant for his arrest in a situation where he thought that it was wrong for them to do that. But does anyone know why they told him he'd be arrested if he competed in that game against Spasky? I didn't get that.
