it's a beautiful change to understand the words a singer is singing. has everyone forgotten that behind singing, there is a story that has to be told?
Bellisimo !
I once listened through the whole Orfeo. It was pretty much a matter of having two hours of slow boring movements one after the other and then this charming aria, the pearl of the work. I recommend listening to the opera to everybody, though, because I believe it gives you a pretty good idea of what opera was actually like in Mozart's time (they didn't play much of his music, did they?).
Not a small voice. The range was limited, but within his range, especially from F above middle C to high A, his voice was very penetrating and crisp with a vast variety of dynamics and effects. It was a very open voice, easy and flexible but only in that limited range. A gigantic artist.
@fairytaleofNY Whata brilliant comment! I CANNOT think of a better way of describing how Tito Schipa's rendition makes you feel Very lovely, adding to faves
gigli said we should all bow down to the art of tito schipa. let's bow. he is one of the greatest artists to ever perform anything. only giada amparan has a chace to become this great and she is so young. we'll wait
one of the most moving versions of this aria. That tenore di grazia melts my heart. schipa never had a big impressive voice, but man he comunicated with what he had, he made music... Fantastic!
Can you imagine what it would have been like to hear Joan Sutherland and Tito Schipa sing duets together? These delicate soft and sensual passages of Gluck melt and intertwine with Tito Schipa's voice. A statement made at Grandi Tenori:"Schipa had no grand voice nor exceptional beauty...." looses velocity when you listen to this aria. Tito Schipa is able to incite depth and pose into every singular syllable. Very few tenors are able to do this. Joseph Schmidt is a tenor who can do the same.10/10

This was composed in 1762. Is this not the most advanced music in the Western world at the time? Sublime.

There must be some other glorious music from Gluck besides this.the melody is superb as is the simple construction and orchestration.must find more.

His sustained diminuendos are electrifying in the best tradition of the greatest of Italian tenors
