I think American is behind when it comes to gays in the Military. Israel and England both have gays serving openly in the Military. That fact is the industrialized world including many European nations and Israel and others allow gay and lesbians to serve openly and they have not experienced problems because of that decision.

You may find it helpful to learn a little more about history before you make comments. (I should have proof read that, welp) not to mention that if one was to be openly gay it would make that soldier more vulnerable to his own units typical disdain for homosexuals, I believe they should (at least for their sake) simply continue serving without announcing that they are gay, afterall what's the point (having gay sex in the shower)? All it seems it could do is make an army look unimpressive to the people of the world who largely view it that way.

Yes, it does. It's a shame that this is the 21st century and people still view us only in a sexual context. It's who we love that matters - exactly as it is with heterosexuals, but we are always subject to the "immoral sexual deviancy" card. I love my partner with all of my heart, and I don't "lust for other men in the shower."
I wish I could witness the day of equality, but it won't happen in my lifetime in this "christian" country, the "great" US of A.
