  • and how the fuck did I end up watching barber shop quartets at 730 in the morning

  • faces so blurry

  • PWN.

  • What the hell is this boyband quartet? Where is the BASS?

  • awsome such a pure sound

  • very good!

  • subbed

  • AAhhh!!!! is in my faves already!!! XD

  • reminds me of Fallout

  • @SingarDude One unique element of barbershop is that the lead is in the second highest voice. Also, in music, as parts get higher, they need to be softer. The tenor on the far left needs to sing softer than the lead (second from the left). If you've ever tried to sing higher notes, you've probably noticed that you had to get louder. If the tenor can be comfortable singing full-voice and softer than the lead, then they don't have to sing falsetto. Some do that easily, but not all the time.

  • wut song is this? :D

  • i wish i could sing like this... by myself

  • Are erratic hand movements and constantly doing squats a part of being a barbershop quartet?

  • @Skorne13 Well, yes, and no. You'll find a lot of barbershoppers talk with their hands, LOL. It's all part of being dynamic while performing... you wouldn't want to watch four guys, or a whole chorus standing like statues! As far as the 'squats' go, the commonly practiced stance for singing involves having your weight balanced, and your knees slightly bent. The rest is just feeling the music. ;)

  • theres a quartet championship?

  • ha tenor got a little too excited there...but not bad.

  • I find this video hard to masterbate to.

  • @undisputed2584 Then you're not trying... FOCUS DAMMIT!

  • Amazing stuff... the bass singer looks a bit of a creep though!

  • porno faces at 1:35 is priceless

  • @SingarDude cuz the high notes add variety. and its legit.

  • @SingarDude I'm new to barbershop style but I believe it counters the bass in a way that when combined with

lead and baritone, creates the unique barbershop ringing sound.

  • anyone know how to sing barber style? i just dont get the harmonies

  • @adam88spiderman

    research "the dominant seventh chord"

  • @applesauc3

    thank you~!!!!

  • i want to marry someone in a barbershop quartet!

  • i hear an OC times inspiration.

  • are those westminster guys?

  • AWESOME

  • two overtones? is that possible?

  • @ChrisisBass13

    yep =)

Last chord of the tag is a pretty good example

All clean well-tuned major chords actually have a massively indefinite number of overtones on top of them, its just that normally only one or two of them are loud enough to hear, but if you know which notes to listen out for, you can sometimes hear third, fourth or even more overtones =P

  • 71259mark Yeah, you're probably right!

  • whats the name of the song that they are singing?

  • @ditakahama Carolina Mammy

  • CindyOCindy723.

When you have a true bass, there can't possibly be enough bass.

  • Very entertaining!! Just a small criticism-- the bass is so powerful that he has a tendency to overpower the group at certain times (especially the ending). Take it down a notch but keep the enthusiasm!!

  • @CindyOCindy723 He's closest to the microphone. I'm sure their balance is normally fine.

  • its time for barbershop to lose the stupid and gay arm and face movements

  • @frankvdg

    A bit of homophobia, eh?

  • @frankvdg

    A bit of homophobia, eh?

There's all kinds of other musical genre that you can immerse yourself in.

  • @grampacanuck lol no, no homophobia here. just saying i dislike the ridiculous movements everyone is doing for some reason, cause it makes em look stupid. i like the music though

  • @frankvdg Well, may not be any homophobia, but you seem to be using gay derisively when describing the arm and face movements so

  • @MasterSquishy1 by 'gay' I mean overly happy and foolish looking, sorry if i offended

  • @frankvdg No harm done!

Unless my lesbian friend hears you say it... :D

  • I love the tag and their blend is amazing!

  • Well, certainly nothing compared to the non-collegiate champions but a good group. However, one voice seems to stick out over the lead throughout (perhaps it's bass?) and their movements and actions are seriously leaning on annoying/Douchebag to the point where I tired of watching and just want to turn off the video.

  • Great!! Really enjoyed these guys.

    trevororrell

  • guy second from the right freaks me out...but they sound pretty good

  • You know what they say about opinions, don't you mcpicklejar?

  • Wonderful talent for a collegiate group. Better than a lot of the very experienced quartets. Every voice is disinctly perfect for blending with eachother. I hope they keep singing for a long time.

  • in my opinion these guys shouldnt have beaten out on demand and prestige or swedish match lol they are good though and man can they bust a tag!

  • if you liek this you should check out the westminster chorus these guys are all members im pretty sure

  • I'm not going to say future champs, but I am excited to see what they bring to the contest this summer.

  • these guys are simply awesome! Future gold medalists hopefully!

  • these guys are wack!

  • @BBshopLOLZ Is that good or bad?

  • @davidmeye: Wack as in bad. They were WAY over-scored, they shouldn't have scored an 82. I mean, they just qualified to Internationals with a 76. How does that make any sense?

  • @mcpicklejar That whole international contest was a little over scored and the FWD prelims were a little underscored. Plus The Vagrants didn't have a great hit in their prelims.

  • @mcpicklejar what do you find so bad about these guys?? i think they blend really well

  • @feelit4 I was clearing up to davidmeye what BBshopLOLZ (stupid ass name -__-) meant by wack. They aren't BAD, they're pretty good. I just didn't think ( and I'm not the only one) that they should have won the gold over Swedish Match, On Demand and Prestige.

  • @mcpicklejar oo ok i got you

  • @mcpicklejar and are you a certified barbershop judge?

  • @TenorJOE Nope, but I have talked to two certified music judges. Two judges that are almost done with training. And one retired music judge and they seem to agree with me.

Plus the it isn't like the judging system is on your side. I know Int'l was overscored and you say FWD prelims was a bit underscored but dropping 6 points is pretty drastic. Prestige and On Demand AKA Powerhouse now are 78s which is a 2-3 point difference from where they were at, which is a more reasonable difference. IMO

  • Epic unintentional "!!!!1" in the description.

  • nice job guys - congrats on the win!

  • 2:33 to 34 is AWESOME! Great stuff.

  • its nice to hear the bari a little louder than normal on that last chord!

  • Yes baritones. As a baritone singer myself, and a huge fan of barbershop, I always complain that you never can hear enough baritone, especially whenever baritone parts are some of the coolest parts you will hear. I couldn't agree more with this comment.

  • Jonny is an amazing singer, just had him at my home in NZ with OC Times,

    absolutely amazing guy !

    x

  • excellent! : )

  • Beautiful song - wonderfully sung. Didn't know this song but really enjoyed watching and listening. Thank you. I've loved listening to barbershop for YEARS - just never had the chance to sing it before. Only wish I could but never mind. :)

  • Thank you!

  • Joey, your cutoff is the greatest thing ever!!!.........BLAST OFF

  • Holy cow, I never noticed that before.

  • Yes, that's great energy.

  • tenor is sick 'round 2:30

  • I didn't really like the performance, and song choice for these guys, but man.. that tag was flippin A+

  • i agree. the blend wasn't that good. the tenor stuck out a lot.

  • It's very similar to the Four Voices style. If you were live it didn't sound like it does in a recording. You can't base everything off of a video.

  • What are the words around 2:55?

"When I stroll across that sunny Mason-Dixon Line..."?

  • Correct.

  • I hadn't heard this particular arrangement before, so I did a little guessing to figure it out.

Even with the background noise, you guys sound really good in the afterglow vid, too. That performance is more relaxed and funnier, and it's a nice comparison to your performance on the stage.

Thanks for your reply, and congratulations on your win!

  • Which afterglow video?

  • So this is what it looks like in full color...

    (facebook inside joke thing)

    David sounds cooler in bass!

  • wow, that's really cool. those guys are good. so enthusiastic throughout the whole thing. :D
