In Halo, the insta-kill melee DOES make sense.

You are a biologically-enhanced supersoldier; hitting people bypasses shields easier and a hit while unshield would kill you because it's the force of a bloody monster truck. That apparently comes with being a Spartan. <:/

But your guns are not enhanced. The melee system is just there for humiliating and for solving conflict quickly in close-range situations where you need to reload.

Also, the glowing green things aren't ammo, they're dog tags.

Would you recommend Crysis 2 as a first-time FPS on PC for me? I've never played any games on the PC before, but loads of FPS on Xbox 360 (my current computer has 4MB of graphics and 1.2GHz of processing - ten years old 32-Bit Windows XP. Can't do anything for biscuits. However, I've just ordered a new PC that's arriving in three weeks, and it can play Crysis 2 apparently - 1GB dedicated ATI HD6670 graphics card and 3.4GHz Dual Core processor). So, yeah, as my first PC first-person shooter...?

It is under NO circumstance a starting FPS.

I'd recommend battlefield.

@ArukusEon Sure why not? Its not particularly hard if you stick to the easier difficulties and it is very fun and flexible (at least the singleplayer is). Also, it will show off your computers power rather nicely (very pretty game) and it is just fun. A lot of different options on how to approach situations and it is probably my favourite FPS ive played on PC thus far (some guys said Battlefield 3... if this is your first FPS, DONT. You will get DESTROYED in multiplayer).

I've played an absolute TON of FPS games for a long time. It's my primary gaming genre I play and look for in shops and online.

I'm looking for a starting PC shooter; I'm not used to the controls as I'm migrating from my Xbox 360, where at least 20 of my FPS games reside.

I want a PC shooter that's easy to teach me to be used to the PC.

I already have TF2 (used to it), but I want another one.

Crysis 2 seemed good.

@ArukusEon No i realize that. Thats why i think Crysis 2 is fine. The hardest part of Crysis 2 is figuring out what to do tactically. Since you have experience with FPSes ,you should be fine there. Battlefield 3 (as someone else suggested) would be much harder because, since it is competitive, a lot of it comes down to pure control skill (and positioning and stuff). As someone who has played few FPSes on PC, that may be frustrating for you. Dont worry, youll adjust quickily enough.

@ArukusEon Then perhaps you have a knack for PC controls already and it would be good. BF3 on PC is definitely a step up from its console counterparts so sure go ahead and get it. I just know i get owned quite often in competitive games (except TF2). Either way im sure you'd get used to it. Crysis 2 has the best campaign for a shooter this year and BF3 has the best multi.

You know, you can't really complain about insta kill in halo for a couple of reasons. A: In COD, a knife to the foot will kill you, and B: You are a 1 and a 1/2 ton of steel and muscle, it makes sense that you can punch the living shit out of everything.

@Darkmikieg Yeah, it is kind of a stupid phrase, sorry bout that. The only guns that can two shot are balanced though. Say... the assault rifle. On regular settings, you can kill someone with 32 shots from it, and no less. The only weapons that can do that much damage are difficult to get, have low ammo, make you a high priority target, or are tough to hit people with. Halo is cod but with less gravity and more health. However, they don't completely balance out the health with additional -

@Darkmikieg -damage, they made it so that unless you have great aim or one of the more powerful weapons (they're quite well balanced), you have to shoot someone for a while, weaken them, maybe damage their health a bit, and then punch them really hard. Energy shields, ceramic plating, and steel, can't very well stop lead from killing you after you get shot with 30 bullets. The gun designers in the Halo universe aren't just twiddling their thumbs. Now can people stop responding to my comments?

well at last you actually made an argument. well i acutally find COD sophisticated, every weapon feels uniqe. there are tons of tactics especially if you are with a good team that can communicate. the only reason why it's considered with bad tactics it's because most people play TDM. play objective modes like war, headquarters or base assault and you will get lots of tactics
