I don't think that people understand that Lea and john have other things to do. Who wants to do the same show for the rest of their lives?! Deal with it people.
For everyone complaining about how the costumes/set/choreo/whatever is "wrong," keep in mind that this is a different director and creative team than the original Michael Mayer production. Whether you like this production or not, there is no way that the show is "supposed" to be done. If it's a different director, then they are allowed to have creative freedom over the show, rather then just emulating what every other production has done.
@dizkidliz I disagree. I thought Christy Altomare of the first national tour was the best Wendla I've seen, and Blake Bashoff was the best Moritz. There are other interpretations of the characters, and while one should respect the work of the originals, that doesn't mean that other casts do not deserve credit for their equally amazing work.
No offence but i hate this version the amercan version is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better with the original cast with Lea and jonathan and they have the outfits wrong with the guys the suit things are green they are meant to be like a bluish colour
I thought it was amazing. But I've never seen the US one on stage. I prefer Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff as Wendla and Melchior, but I thought the supporting singers were better than the OBC. Georg, Ernst and Handschen blew the OBC ones out of the water, IMO. Handschen and Ernst's voices in their reprise always annoyed me in the soundtrack, but after seeing this version, I love that song. I really loved Moritz in this version, and think he wasn't quite as phenomenal as JGJ, but still fantastic
Yeah, I think it was a bit ambitious to do australian accents and in hind sight pretty ordinary. I saw this production, the set and lights were AMAZING, most of the actors were pretty great also, but the songs are written to be performed in american accents, like most musicals! haha
I'm auditioning today for another production here in sydney, but we're going for american accents! Thank goodness!
I saw this production after having seen the US tour four times. It was fine in its own right. SOME of the choreography was downright weird, but it was different enough where I didn't think about the standard US version.
@wwe2dragon Did you actually see the show or are you going off this? I saw this show in Sydney and it was one of the best productions I've ever seen. The cast were all energetic and spectacular, the set was clever and the lighting was amazing, there was beautiful intuition in production design and overall I was immensely impressed. I haven't seen the Original Broadway show but you shouldn't compare the productions - each one has different drivers behind the wheel and they're inevitably unique.
I'm kinda glad I didn't get the chance to see the Australian production. It looks so different to the original one! From what's shown in this clip, the performances seem so... staged and they seem to have lost the honesty the OBC brought to the show.
i love spring awakening and i'm so excited for it to be coming to australia, but from what i can see... it's not going to be pretty. it looks like it's completely changed, everything is TOO blunt and harsh [come on, seriously?! they're practically afraid of sexuality!] and, well... honestly the guy who's playing moritz looks and sounds like he should have been a bully on round the twist.
this is...bizarre.

Oh my God. No. This is absolutely terrible.

I agree with most, they're all too old. Actors who do this show should be 19 or 20 at most, they have to play 14-year-olds.
I still think the best Moritzes were Gallagher and Blake Bashoff, the latter of whom I saw do this twice and I adored him each time.
