  • The greatest male group ever with great soulful harmonies.

  • And, it just hit me that this is what distinguishes the Tempts from their peers. To my knowledge, the OJays, Spinners, Stylistics, etc. didn't tacke standards as part of their routine. Tempts pride themselves on their versatility and taking on a good challenge; it appears their goal was to do their own music and anybody else's better than the originals.

  • I am generally not given to hyperbole or false claims, but it is hard not to consider this the greatest assembly of vocal talent ever. There is always the possiblity that there are some totally unknown guys out there who can do this, but I'd have to see it to believe it. That said, I'd love to see the Woodson/Peoples/McGilberry unit doing this, but there don't seem to be many videos of them in existence.

  • Melvin was the best bass ever.

  • I was the tour bus driver in 1992 for the uk leg of their tour, and all 5 of them were pure gents. I drove many famous artists around the uk and europe but none come close to these guys. They were the only ones i ever missed in all the years i did that job. Ali kept in touch via e mail and never mentioned he was ill, As for Melvyn i dont know how he injured his knee but i remember on the tour he needed a couple of pain killing jabs and they never missed a show because of it. Pure Class.

  • @022450-You know nothing of what you speak. I had family members that once worked for Motown (Billy Davis and Sonny Sanders). Ali came in to replace Dennis at lead tenor. Melvin was the only bass singer to sing bottom. BASS IS BOTTOM!

  • this is probably one of my favourite songs of all time!

  • pause @2:56 you can see the scar from where Melvin got shot in the hand during the car jacking. I know everything about that man lol...legend!!

  • @loupremo Didn't Melvin get shot in the leg?

  • @icecolddude96 yeah and the hand.

  • OH SHEEET!!!!!

  • Awesome performance by the temptations!!!!

  • Awesome performance!!!!!

  • @ laidyeh-Ali Ollie Woodson did not sing bottom. He was a natural tenor. Melvin sang all bass parts. He alone had that quality and depth to sing like that.

  • @ae5914 he did sing bass in the beginning

  • @ae5914 Ollie sang bottom...nothing follows!

  • @The022450 Learn your Temptations history before you tell me anything concerning that group.

  • @ae5914 You obviously can't sing "shit up a dark alley". Watch the man's vocal muscles and lip movements and get back to me. Better yet, if you have the connections you proport, ask them about this LIVE performance. Would they know anything about it or only what they perceived happened because of what they saw in the studio?

  • @The022450 I do sing, play, write and produce quite well. Now after viewing the video for the first time, I agree with you. Ali is singing bottom in that background. I stand to be corrected.

  • @ae5914 Thank you. And I'm sure you're quite talented. Much luck to you in the biz!

  • KEVIN MAYNOR WAS RAISED ON MELVIN FRANKLIN.....

  • Melvin you were and will always be amazing. There will never be another Melvin great video..Love this song

  • When Melvin went down on his knees, only God knew how much pain he was in.

Gone but never forgotten. The late great Melvin Franklin and the Temptations.

  • Melvin Franklin, one of the three greatest singers of all time (along with Otis Williams and Ali Ollie Woodson)...

  • I LOVE THIS SONG THE WORDS ARE TO LIVE BY TO BBAD THEY DON'T

    RIP OLLIE WOODSON.

  • R.I.P Ali Ollie Woodson

  • Pardon the disrespect, but are they lip synching a little? It's probably my eyes messing with me but it seems that during some parts it was off.

  • :@TheGreatVarholy: No, I seriously doubt it!, it looks that way because the performance tape is moving a little faster than the sound, notice even when Arsenio Hall "Ladies and gentlemen, The Temptations" it was also outta sync.

  • @Jennykate1985 OK, thanks for clarifying it. Much appreciated

  • :@TheGreatVarholy: You are welcome.

  • To take a phase from Charlie Daniels,

    "That's how it's done son".

  • WONDERFUL.................

  • Why oh why don't they make 'em like this anymore? The Temps had their personal problems as we all know......but they never presented themselves to the public without showing class and style. That's what's wrong today. No self- respect for themselves let alone the viewing audience. Their music and style will live forever..........

  • Temptations are legendary.

  • Amen!!!!

  • Magnificent. See that's singing, just to hear those different voices. I miss Melvin and the other guys, Eddie, Otis, Ruffin and all of them. Gone but never forgotten.

  • Otis isn't gone. He and the other temptations still perform.

  • Arsenio hall is a clown

  • Have you heard them acapella?!OMG!!!!

  • Wow this is awesome!, watch Lawrence Beaman in his audition video for america's got talent, it's awesome ;)

  • this was 92. there was also a performance with boys II men on this episode..they all sang ''i can't get next to you''...it was awesome! Wish i could find it!!

  • I love the song and the temptations

  • This is the best son this group have put together. The new groups of today should try it........

  • Was that Boyz 2 men that walked on afterwards?

  • Man... RIP Melvin My Dad taught Me and my Brother harmony off of listening to The Temps. I remember being a young boy watching this show when it first came on and Boyz II Men was singing all of the Temptations songs simply CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wait....was this always out of sync?

  • I love looking at all the combination of the Temps...wow

  • This is an awesome vid. Melvin looks so good there, its hard to believe that he'd die only a few years later. RIP Ol' Blue

  • I noticed Melvin had lines cut into the sides of his haircut-so nineties...I used to play ball with his little brother Michael...Miss you dude...RIP!

  • Richard is still in the group here so I feel like this was done in either 91 or 92...about 2 or 3 years before Melvin passed.

He sacrificed a lot to help keep the group going. Blue is truly missed. R.I.P.

  • Melvin (Blu) Franklin.... will be missed.

  • u know...this was recorded the year Melvin died....& its after midnight here in Detroit & yesterday he would've been 66 years old. sigh...i was almost in tears watching this...R.I.P MELVIN "BLU* FRANKLIN

  • there is a song with MELVIN singing solo on the Atlantic album Bareback when louis price was with the group is great, they recorded another Atlantic with louis price 'HERE TO TEMP YOU) WHICH SOMEONE STOLE (smile)the tempts in my opinion greatest singing group bar none and I am 67 and I!ve heard all the great groups from Drifters/moonglows/platters little anythony&imperials/impressions/mahattans/ojays/ H.M. BLUENOTES/EWB/ 4 TOPS SPINNERS/ALL THESE GROUPS ARE GREAT.BUT DON!T TOP THE TEMPTS!

  • wowowoowowowo i songz this song!!! lol!!!

  • This was in 1991 because Boyz II Men greeted them at the end of it.

    Melvin's the greatest.

  • The greatest male singing group of all time especially with Ollie.

  • I would agree with you and YES this is the best Temptation line-up and they did have some great singers.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you, I have been looking for this version for a long time. THANKS!!!!

  • It doesn't get any better-

  • This Aresenio show was recorded in 1989.

  • to lgp1987, sorry it took me so long to send this to you. I just realized you sent me your e-mail address. Are you going to post this on you tube? Good luck.

  • Did it send?

  • i'll be glad to email this to you. What your email address?

  • Hey I'm currently piecing together a video profiling great bass singers for a college class, and was wondering if you could possibly e-mail this to me?

  • 80s i would say

  • what year was this?

  • I think early 90s

  • @lgp1987 Yep, 'cuz if datz Boyz II Men huggin' dem, it has 2 be sumtime around 1991.

  • @lgp1987 Feb 14, 1992...

  • cooool

  • this is truly beautiful. Ali-Ollie Woodson did a wonderful job singing bottom. I thought it was Melvin at first. This rendition I think is better than the one they recorded live in 1965. Melvin is booming his bass all around heaven, and Eddie is chirping like a bird. David is shouting. God tellin them alright now yall making to much noise up here. lol My boy Blue. There never be another Melvin.

  • @laidyeh SHUT THE F....UP.!

  • @BROOKLYNBRENDA

Why must I shut the F*** up for??? Cause you said so??? Who U? And oh by the way, the feeling is mutual!!!!

  • @BROOKLYNBRENDA I DON'T THINK THAT RESPONSE WAS MEAN'T FOR YOU - MY BAD...... ANOTHER ISSUE - MELVIN DID INDEED DO THE BASS ALL DAY LONG!!!!! I AGREE WITH ae5914 - CHECK IT OUT ANDYOU'LL AGREE TOO!!

  • I Love Melvin Franklin. As a young bass singer myself I idol this man soooo much! He's one of my favorite bass singers! And is surely one of the greatest!

  • almost had me in tears.

    Melvin had some serious POWER!

    R.I.P. Mr. Franklin

  • Me too. He also had a great heart and soul. I went to see the group live 20 years ago and sadly he was home recovering from throat surgery. This clip lets people know how talented he was.

  • Amazing, Melvin Franklin(RIP)ending this performance kneeling is touching...knowing his health conditions during this time. Thank you for posting.

  • bless u for posting this video....what a classic
