Check out an artist from Toronto by the name of Kaydee. He flipped The Roots "What They Do" and turned it into a crazy concept. The song is called Quick Plug

hmmm Dr. DRE is exceptionally great in this regard.. infact many suspect, upon first listening, that he's lip syncing.. thats how good he is.. check him out.
@behtashbg I've been to a lot of hip hop shows, and no emcee was more impressive than Reef the Lost Cauze. No hype men, no entourage, no band, just him and a DJ.
Black Thought is one of my favorites, but he's never without his hype man.
hey hey that's the point of the song n'est-ce pas? Being mainstream isn't the objective, it's about being unique and the Roots achieve it even if they don't sell as many records or are as well recognised as they would like. Just cause something is artistically brilliant, doesn't mean it'll be hugely popular...
@muzace Most things that are artistically brilliant are not popular, usually, anymore. Those days are long gone, but maybe (and hopefully) will return in the future .
I for one am completely suprised that the southern rap phase is still going on. I think the pendulum may swing back to lyrical shit sooner or later, as far as the mainstream goes.
I was lookin for this everywhere ...Thanks for postin' the problem is that they finally did what they said they would never do...still love yall ?uest, Black though, Malik B, love eternal

black thought live is better than most studio rappers, who when put on stage need 3 or 4 hype men filling in lines for them
live performance is a very important aspect of being a mc, and this guy is without a doubt the best live performer around
havin that ok band helps too, i guess, haha

Damn I missed these times, I cant believe what Hip Hop is nowadays, lets go back to this time when real hip hop ruled the music world.
nigazzas 4 years ago
You say it as if the Roots are through. No, hip hop is still alive. It's just not as popular on the mainstream.
But I agree; we need more of this.

Notice how tight the music and the sound are; most crews sound wack live when playing on DATs, these guys control that on instruments. Respect!
