Look up Rafael Mendez on trumpet, he plays Moto Perpetuo on one breath. For those of you who don't know, this solo piece is straight sixteenths at a pretty fast tempo with notes all over the place. Psshh, Carnival of Venice who? This piece shows a very good use of this technique!
Jesus, for everyone posting about why he was circular breathing. The solo was played that way, listen to the original the note he plays is a drone with a large ensemble. To develop good cirular breathing can take months. In theory its easy, not in actuallity.
PS. work on your natural lips slurs to make the higher register easier. That will make sure you aretn just flubbing around.
yep! =) if you guys wanna know how to circular breath the way i do it is use my cheeks to push the remaining air stored up in my mouth out while taking a nice breathe through my nose then before my cheeks puish all the air out i fill my cheeks back with air and start all over =) at least that's the way i do it if anyone wants to know.
P.S while it is useful in some rare instances it really isn't used often. I've maybe done it for 2 songs in my 3 years of playing with about 60+ songs
We had a competition in our jazz band for who could do the longest circular breathing, one guy went for twenty minutes until our teacher got bored and told him to stop. It's not too hard to do, it just takes a lot of focus. I've really seen this used beyond a musicians trick kind of thing to be honest, but I bet someone's used it for a solo or something, it'd seem kind of ridiculous though.
In order to circular breathe, you must be very focused with your embouchure. The easiest way is to start at pp and work on getting the best sound with as little air as possible. You are pretty good seeing as how you are still developing this skill. I am in the Marching Southerners and learned to circular breathe on accident during a long sustain in one of our closers. Anyway, I still think you snuck a breath.j/k
To circular breathe, you fill your cheeks with air while you play and coordinate breathing in through your nose with forcing the air out of your cheeks. Once you get the coordination, let the fun begin!
i play drums and im surprised at the length that the guy in blast could hote that note for. how do you guys do it? i know its circular breathing but how does that work?
Circular breathing is very difficult..props to you for keeping it going so long. The only time I ever managed to do it properly I was so surprised I messed it up.
is not that difficult.just breathe out ur nouth until u feel u only have a mouthful left, then while you release that mouthful FROM THE MOUTH DIRECTLY,NOT FROM THE LUNGS,that way,air will be able to go in your nose.hope that helps!
I hope your camera phone is the excuse for your tone.

Not in one breath. He does do something equally amazing though. He circular breathes throughout the ENTIRE song!

Why do it in one breath and compromise tone, intonation and dynamics?

I completely agree with lollercakes
