From what I understand their Grandfather (Grand Master Helio Gracie) once put two stripes on his belt at one time if I am not mistaking Ryon actually tweeted or Facebooked it.
Can someone explain to me how in the hell Ryron is a 5th degree black belt? He is for sure a legitimate black belt, but he got it at age 18 from Hélio. How old is he? There is a necessary amount of time between moving up in degree, I believe it's three years for the first 3 dan and at least five for the consecutive dan after that (correct me if I'm wrong).
@iamjason Thanks for the info. I found that out after looking into a little more elsewhere online. 5th degree by 28 seems pretty steep to me though but oh well.
wristlocks is cheap and requires no skills, im sorry ryron i look up to all of your family as inspiration to get better, i hope you understand where im coming from this stuff never flyes in Brasil.
@juniorcosta85 Marcelo Garcia and Claudio Calasans disagree. Actually, pretty much all of brazil agrees. They'll just rip your wrist off. You clearly know nothing.
@bagelgod, how long you been doing this? just the fact that you need to name pple and all of brasil shows that you havent been doing this for long, plus this how i feel about it, you can get someone in a caws paw right inside of the gard now tell me does that require skill or not?.... good luck to you and your bjj carreer.
This is really cool, I know this move when standing, basic wrist manipulation, but I never thought about using it on the ground. This is very sneaky and could be invaluable. Just wait till I use it on my sparring buddies HaHa.
@billysue2 I didnt mean using the standing technique in a sparring match. I meant against an unskilled person IRL When did i say sparring? I've been able to use standing key locks, arm bars, and wrist locks on people before.. and yes its hard to pull off
@billysue2 As with any fighting style, u have to set ur opponent up to use this in a standing mode. Why does everyone think of an opponent as always being a "live wire"? There are times in a fight when ur opponent loses his bearings. Like when he's receiving a shower of punches for example. In that situation ur opponent might be totally confused and unable to fight back effectively. It is at times like these that u can snatch a hand and perform a lock w/o too much resistance.
i got taught that you can do a similar thing with the wrist when going for a omoplata except you use your stomach to create the presure, although the ref can do you for it
maybe i heard wrong, will check with my instructor when im in class
great techinque

@getthetapjj It's a well known fact that Rorion Graice/Gracie Academy doesn't follow the IBJJF rules.
(no disrespect...)

@skatedude90 its far harder to isolate the arm standing than on the ground, youll never see a standing wristlock pulled off in live sparring
