  • By the way. I'm pretty sure Mycroft is the real mastermind behind Sherlock's survival and Moriarty's end, against all odds. We never should forget MH has far superior deductive skills than his brother, in SH own words. And that he had a chat with Jim before everything shown in the last episode happened.

  • @AleisterSir What do you mean MH was behind Moriarty's end? He clearly did himself in because of Sherlock turning the game against him with "I've got you". Also, didn't mycroft say "only Sherlock Holmes could fool me" when he thought irene adler was dead? What does that say about his skills?

  • @duckworth21384 Do you think so? Well, wait and see. But Mycroft doesn't seem very affected with The Sun's first page the day after the fall. His deducting and intellectual skills are far better than Sherlocks (and it's Sherlock's opinion ; read ACD's "The Greek Interpeter") and he's the first one who see Moriarty's game, placing criminals all around Baker Street. Staying at the Diogenes Club doesn't mean his arm is not long. Very long. ;)

  • @AleisterSir I'm sorry if i sound like a jerk i dont mean to, I do like talking to other fans :)

  • Nice, nice review. Well, English is not my native language, but I found the episode superbly done, and your impressions about it quite smartly reasoned. Well, how to put it...Anything I had to say has already cross your mind!! ;) Andrew Scott, what an impressive acting.

    Greetings from Spain

  • @AleisterSir Well..I mean "everything" ;P

  • House, like several other things (including Batman) is based on Sherlock Holmes.

Wilson, for example, is just House's Watson.

I love both shows, but this Sherlock is just...brilliant.

  • @narusteph I did not know Batman was based on Sherlock! No wonder it is one of the few DC characters I don't mind following! Clearly the best dynamic formula to have around! I did know that House was based on it and that was one of the reasons I enjoyed that how so much especially how House went so far as to make subtle ACD references from time to time. Sherlock, like you said, brilliant. Whole new ball game of amazing adaptations and just ground breaking television all round!

  • the scene with Moriarty was just, ..."MINDBLOWING" --- get it?? ha!

  • @dopilus Hooray for word play! XD

  • In the first part of the rooftop confrontation, notice how Sherlock partially hides his intellect, finally taking Watson's advice from before the trial. Sherlock had a plan but he was not sure of success at all, it was knife edge stuff. Sherlock's showing off (Sir Boastalot) was what led him into Morriarty's trap; his behaviour at the trial, his enjoyment of crime cases, all these behaviours fitted the narrative Moriarty created. Mixing the truth with the lies.

  • @Relugus It was a brilliant tactic! He had to fight every natural urge his brain would be shouting at him. He's not the best at acting the fool as shown by his priest performance in Belgravia & in S1 outside the apartment & to trick the lady into thinking he knew her husband. He can hold a character but not for long. Not like the ACD Sherlock so it really was absolutely a poker game of wit & Sherlock had to properly convince Moriarty that he was fundamentally the same man as him in order to win.

  • sherlock reminds me of dr house, the serie is almost as good as house md. its pretty amazing that they made it in our time without raping it.

  • @papadan1987 House's address is 221B, same as Sherlock's.

  • @papadan1987 I used to be a fan of House. I watched the first 5 seasons but stopped watching mid season 5 because it became too much about Cuddy & House and Chase & his marriage than about the traditional Sherlock based formula the show was based on but yes when it started it was a remarkable show. However I will confess I have come to love BBC Sherlock more. Though Hugh Laurie & Robert Sean Leonard remain brilliant actors.

  • @Willish please watch season 5 til the end, i promise you wont regret it, season 5 takes a surprising turn, you simply cant miss it

  • @papadan1987 I just checked it out on wiki and it turns out I had my wires crossed. I have seen all of season 5 and that finale was indeed very unexpected and impressive. It was series 6 that I got annoyed at and bowed out of after the third episode.

  • @Willish true season 6 7 and 8 are a bit doll compared to the other seasons, but they still manege to hit the right spot sometimes, so still worth watching

  • @papadan1987 Almost as good??? OMG...It's far, far, far better. Look closer. House, and his world at that hospital, are "almost" a pack of sissies...oh, and those filthy music video clips about redemption, hope, love...included in "almost" every chapter. Fed up.

  • The ending was very Faustian indeed ...

Thanks for the thoroughly engaging review. You've encapsulated this perfectly-

John's affable and sensitive character gives the necessary balance and duality...

  • @1488bill John in BBC Sherlock is a broken man. Far more broken in this series than in the book when he almost seems jovial about everything with only the occasional sigh at Sherlock's antics. He is just exceptional at hiding his anguish, probably partly to do with his family issues and partly military training. It is nice to have him act as Sherlock's conscious and support system as well as needing Sherlock for his own emotional support outlet.

  • Excellent review. Love both series so much. I'm so excited to have six episodes to watch over & over again, instead of just three. Let's hope it doesn't take another eighteen months before we have nine.

I'm off to watch your Doctor Who reviews now. If they're as in-depth as this one, I'm in for a treat!

  • @poeticjustice1000 I too am happy to have 6 new episodes! The fandom has been able to do so many creative and wonderful things with just 3 that there is no knowing what great new heights they will reach with 6. It is very exciting.

I do worry that in my more recent Doctor Who Reviews I do more complaining than in-depth critique. But I could be wrong, it is has been awhile since I watched any of them back. Sorry if they disappoint. >.<

  • i do think sherlock jumps in to the binbag truck and and dead body is thrown out , roll on season 3 lol .

  • @wolffhang That is what I thought too! Too many things happened in the short time it took Sherlock to meet pavement. Too many "distractions" thrown in John's way.

  • good review. Very expressive, great presence on screen, lovely accent and superb use of academic language.

  • @sourlinks Thank you very much! I certainly don't consider myself an academic! Just a fan who happens to take interests in the original text and doesn't mind reading the odd essay but I am relieved to know it doesn't come across as just fandom rambles.
