  • Shawn may well be one of least recognized musical greats he owns one item that many known musical greats do not posses. He loves music, loves performing, and his songs come from the heart and soul

  • This song really reminds me of my brother who just turned 22 today - he loves Shawn Phillips more than most would think possible.

  • very nice albums and music to remember one's life by, in many ways ... he is so phenomenal...

  • Myself, my wife, sister and her boyfriend saw Shawn Phillips live in concert at the Minnesota Zoo amphetheater last saturday night. 07/19/08. it was truly amazing, he is still a master guitarist and vocalist at the age of 65. It is a sad day in all of our lives as this is most likely his last tour here in the states. If you want to see him still go to South Africa were he still lives and tours. I have done 2 covers of Shawns "US WE ARE" and "Serendipity Peace"

You can find them on my channel.

  • He sounds great...

  • Great video & music ☆ Well done ☆ Outstanding ☆ Cool Beans ☆ ☆☆☆☆☆♣♣♣♣♣ 5+ Paws Up ♣♣♣♣♣☆☆☆☆☆

  • I absolutely love Shawn Phillips! I enjoyed his music in the 70's & am so excited to see these on youtube. I found him to have such a huge vocal range - beautiful voice! I'd love to hear Song for Sagittarius. Have no idea how someone could find Shawn boring. I find his voice totally mesmerizing.

  • I was a big fan back in the 70's. Years later, my teenage son at 17 is an accomplished guitarist. I wanted him to hear some of the best music of my era. I dug out the boxes of records, bought a turntable, and played my Shawn Phillips record for him. He listened and was inspired. I am please to find him on U-tube and would buy tickets to see him if he ever comes to Las Vegas in concert. When music can takes your senses back in time, you truly understand the power of great music!

  • I have the whole concert, but with so little time and budgets it has become lost in my video library- I appreciate all your comments even those that feel they have to say something derogatory- I always have to laugh when I cross reference these people and see nothing but their voyeurism- but this venue I created will always remain open to real people to enjoy. Thanks for comming by.

  • awesome! so great to see shawn on youtube!

i love this man, who has such awesome talent!!!!!!

  • Joel,

Thank you for posting this video of Shawn. It's one of my favorite songs. I'm a musician and I remember the hours I've spent learning this song. I used to play this song with Shawn in San Francisco and Houston.

  • In the seventies, I was teenager, soul-searching for meaning in music, and was often dissillusioned and confused. Shawn Phillips was my guru in the seventies. I found meaning & social consciousness. Backstage at a "Furthermore" concert in 1974 I recorded his q&a with a reel to reel. He talked about at fancy motel, one of his teckie geeks took the plate off the elevator, and switched the floors, so that someone would press 9 and get 3, etc. Geek mayhem!

  • I was also a teen in the early 70's ,was moved more by Shawn Phillips then any other artist of the time.I got to see him in 76 at the Blue Note in Bolder Co.Wow!to this day the best show I've seen!Still have all my Phillips albums! Thanks for the post!

  • I just love this guy. I've seen him in concert probably a dozen times in Rochester, NY. Rochester loves Shawn and he knows it!

  • I really appreciate you posting this. In the 70's this guy was just the best. His writing, singing and guitar musicianship were just phenomenal. I have all of his albums (yes all, vinyl and CD) and two DVDs but it is great to see other live performances. My whole family and I saw him live at the Jazz Cafe London about 7-8(?) years ago and we were all blown away. He is one of the good guys!

  • i totally appreciate what this man is doing , but this is just totally lame... He doesnt have any exceptional musical skills ,hey , wtv, but he isnt performing anything original , and keeps repeating the same phrases.... booooooooring. lame (Sry guys, thats just my opinion ;) )

  • your opinion is lame.

  • BS Cactus is joelsamuelpresents and will begin showcasing the tapes that never made it to his broadcast television show that was featured for almost ten years in the Arizona Phoenix metro area.

With 350 shows so little ever made it.

  • I completely agree with you.. Wow took me awhile to get the search right for his vid. What a lost treasure Remember Moonshine and Bright White. I do not have my albums anymore hey maybe you could put some more on You Tube ? Carla

  • oh ya shawn phillips is sick!!i take alot of samples from him to make music very good artist

  • what?

  • I am not huge fan of this genre. But since I first heard Shawn in the early 70's, he's always touch my heart in surprising ways. This the first time I've seen footage of him since then and he still has the same moving effect on me. great artist. beautiful

  • This song is titled discoveries and was shot in 1988 in Tempe Az by me and has some great material of Shawn playing piano and talking a lot.

I hope you enjoy this never before seen songs from this concert. Happy Unbirthday and best regards,
