@vampiroangelico When you do fast multi-finger tapping the overtones can change the sound of the riff especially if the intonation isn't exactly perfect on your guitar. It's also an issue if he's in something like the key of Eb, you wouldn't want an open string to ring out. It is possible to do this without a hair band, Michael Romeo and Matt Heafy do it without a head band but there's nothing wrong with using it. No one criticizes a guitarist for using a noisegate, so y criticize them for this

I agree. I've been using D'addario's ever since i started. Once i decided to try another brand, so I stringed up, and straight away at the rehearsal, they all broke. They were more expensive than the D'addario's as well.

what utter shit. i love greg and have been into his music since Howe2, but dont give me the promo crap. he uses D'addario because he has an endorsement, same reason he used Washburn (!!) then ESP guitars after years of having to pay for his own HM Fender strats. if you broke ALL of your strings something is seriously with either your guitar, your technique or both..Are you sure you didnt string them with catgut?

haha 7 months old... oh well. yeah dude literally. i have a floyd rose one one of my guitars and as soon as i strung up on that guitar, i did one dive bomb and hilariously each string broke in sequence. and yes they broke in the middle of the string. its not like they popped out of the sockets on the floyds bridge.

It's just a hair band. It slightly dampens the strings to get rid of some excessive (open) string noise.

yea, it also helps with tapping cuz like, the opposite side of the string rings out when u tap, and it kills that, i dont kno if thats wut greg uses them for, but like, i've known guitarists to use it for that purpose

its a neat concept lots of great guitarists use it

Prevents feedback at high volume levels i guess. But you are right, i've seen him do tapping licks with no string noise and NO STRING dampener. To each his own, i guess haha.

when i first used daddario strings (10's) 2 of them broke on me the first week. so i changed to DR(10's) they lasted me about a month and half have but decided to check out some ernie ball strings ive had them on for about 4 and half not a spec of rust on them and still strong.
