What Si Gung has not mentioned is that this chy sau is shown to beginners to build up the essential external elements..shoulders, back and arm etc. This chy sau is the very first of the 18 different ways. The " Classic " elbows down and in is shown later as the student progresses. Si Gung once told me that you have to imagine there is a pool of water in the crook of your elbow and you shouldn't let it spill as you are grinding. Looking forward to seeing Si Gung again on his next visit to the UK
agreed. also it will become narrower over time. visually it will look like its going back and forth on the centerline but the subtleness of the dragging power by the shoulder and elbow is what develops the power over time.
I don't trust belt system in kung fu anyways. i mean all the masters are from hong kong, and they don't do belt system in hong kong, plus there is no universal recognition in belt system for kung fu either
unfortunately (or fortunately ,depending on your point of view) he doesn't give much away in this vid. A lot of students with big shoulder muscles as a result. LOL
I learnt 7 years SPM then Ip Chee Keung get the technical leadership in Hungary. 3 years later he betrayed us, without a word leaved us. He have a new school, because they had a bigger money. I did a yellow slash exam before him and I have him sign and chop on my doc.The new school costs a lot of money and everybody should had start from the basics - 3rd times again.
that means Chaai Shau and not chy sau...

@TheYunmijj i think the belts are just for the teachers so they can see the progression of the students
if a student has a higher belt, that means that student has mastered (or at least progressed nicely) the lower level techniques

@TheYunmijj
the belt system was introduced to keep the students interested and staying longer therefore more money for david ip
