No, you push into them until you get the stabbing context, you don't just stab like wild. Plus, they fixed it a long time ago. But Engies and Scouts (classes shorter that the spy) can sometimes be stabbed by using the plane of the hit box in their shoulders. Also, quickly circle strafing still works, but requires alot more luck.

They are in absolute full force. This, combined with the now shitty polycount backstab mechanics (you have to be completely perpendicular to your target to even get the animation for the stab) makes playing spy feel fucking broken and bugged.

Bullets are take in by the model. When a player receives damage, it isn't hitting the hit box, but the model itself (well, only for players, not buildings). Knifes and melee weapons fire a bullet that travels a vary short distance. When the a.i. differentiates a critical hit and none crit from weapons like the knife and the sniper rifle, it looks which hitbox the bullet hits at the victim's ragdoll. Hitboxes, however, lag and follow the player's movement more slowly, which tricks the a.i.

It's not luck, did you see how he hit the guys who hunched easier? Back stabs can be used on any part on the backside of the enemy, the back stab area reaches all the way till the middle of their shoulder, so if they hunch over like demoman they have a greater chance of hitting the middle of the shoulder, not their face.

I recently facestabbed a Heavy in a Mario_Kart server, so it's not really impossible. He was an awfully paranoid one, and ended up turning around sharply to face me right after I clicked the fire button, probably because he heard me de-cloak or something.

The facestab after that was win, though. :3

it works due to the spy standard knifing animation having him reach around and stab. this si effective against certain classes like demoman because he is standing at an angle due to him holding his grenade launcher.

thats why when they fixed face stabbing they made it so that you can only backstab them if you are standing behind them and you have to be in a specific stance.

There's also another way to facestab that gives a much higher rate of success. If you aim the knife at the enemies neck and turn as you stab you'll likely pull off a facestab - wouldn't give out this tip but seeing as so many people know it already it's going to make no changes.

yeah, i have seen it, though i was both trying to be funny and make a point at the same time, everyone hates crit rockets, and facestabs, so their kinda alike, but i have seen the update, but im fine with my weapons, though the thing i just hate is razorback/huntsman snipers, kill you with one bodyshot! that shouldnt be possible! id rather play on a server where they only allow normal weapons. the game is as unbalanced as it is, and im ripping my hair out.

I didn't though about ping affecting "that" way, that explains why I see so many facestabs and long range backstabs in certain servers.

Also why I fail often to do a real backstab when chasing other player backs (in straight line).

I suppose the same thing applies to the backburner. I kind of suspected it because the BB almost never works properly for me, except when both players are standing still.

If Scout (most likely me) is running at a enemy spy, trying to get a scattergun critical at point blank range,this spy hits the scout and like miracle, it is counted as a backstab. Facestabs have happened to be more often with scouts than other classes...

They run at you, you try to side-slash them and then, suddenly, the backstab animation flashes by in miliseconds aaaaaaand we have a backstab!

I think it's from lagging hitboxes, kinda like how the pyro's fire can LOOK like its on someone, but they don't take damage / get set on fire. if they run backwards, the laggy hitbox from their back stays in the same world position, and when they move back you can hit said hitbox :3.

think of each on as like a trail, and the laggier you / they are, the longer the trail and easier to facestab. :3

the varying speeds just influence when you actually get close enough to stab the "hitbox trail".
