This is the kind of music I wanna hear in heaven: Ella singing, Ray Brown on bass, Art Blakey on drums, Bill Evans on piano and Stan Getz on sax. It would be so amazing!!!
*topple* I love this. Why can't they play THIS on the radio? Instead of I LOVE YOU LIEK DEE LOVE SONG I LOVE YOU LIEK DEH LOBE SONG I LOFF JOO LIEKS TEH LOVF SONG. I hate that so much... =_= This is amazing, and Ella's voice is beautiful. :D
@andresr922 Everytime I wish I'd done history instead of Music, i think back and remember that 50% of my Music grade comes from a live performance! Free marks ;P
Although I will admit i prefer the history subject content a lot more... :/
@rockingrugger Psh, to be honest I can't even remember :P Context was a beauty to talk about, and I also used it for my comparison question which you probably didn't do since you're SL. Structure was also good to write about as well since it was simply strophic form, and then I also wrote how vocals dominated yadda, yadda, yadda, etc. :)
@bolder2009, I'll let you have this one (smile), though you will never, ever convince me that Ella can outsing Sarah in a ballad. In scatting, yes, but when it comes to beauty of voice--well, there's just no contest!
@TheWriterWalker Well "beauty of voice" is subjective. I trust my own ears in that regard. For me there has never been a more beautiful voice than the voice of Ella Fitzgerald. I'll grant you the respect that you are entitled to not feel the way I do. I love Sarah Vaughan's voice equally and agree with Mel Thorme who said it was the greatest instrument of any singer in the popular field of music. At the end of the day we simply like what we like and love what we love. I love Ella and Sassy!
@bolder2009 I'm not sure which is my favorite rendition, but Sarah Vaughan sounds somewhat pitchy and almost unable to hit the lower notes... I love this rendition too though.
@trayjt12 Sarah could hit any note she wanted to hit. This is just the way she sang it on the album she recorded with Clifford brown. She could sing this song in a thousand different ways and each rendition would be special. She was that good. However I favour Ella's rendition of this song, just like I prefer Sarah Vaughan's rendtition of 'Stardust' over Ella's. Apples and Oranges. Alongside Lady Day, they are the pinnacle of Jazz singing.
@XforeverlongingX I never said that she couldn't hit them. There were a few notes where she sounded as if she had a hard time hitting them. You must have read my comment wrong.
@omnipotato98 My comment was one that was to be accepted lightly. I meant know disrespect for other people's taste in music when I said "I was the third person to dislike this :)". In fact, it was meant as a joke to play on the more common comment (e.g., "I was the 1000th person to like this!). Mine was a reversal of that, as a play on words more than anything else. But your comment was cynical. "Get the fuck out of here troll". You do not have respect for others. The world is of your type.
