I CAN'T believe that they didn't get this aircraft doing it's high performance take off. This thing can BLAST off like a fighter aircraft. VERY impressive.
Passei minha infância inteira acompanhando os vôos do saudoso Eletra, face eu morar na ZL de SP, aviões da rota de sentido norte, em especial a ponte aérea RIO/SP, costumavam ser observados diariamente por mim. O som dos seus motores era (é) inconfundível. Devido a precaria condição financeira, nunca pude "voar" neste mito, mas tenho a honra de te-lo como personagem importante dos melhores momentos de minha vida. Unfortunately the early planes of this model had a design flaw and until it was discovered and the engine mounts were repaired about a hundred people died. It seems that stress damaged the nacelles and it weakened them and caused the wings to later come loose from vibrations, without much warning and the wing fell off. After the repairs they were beautiful aircraft. A relation to our family died in one of the early crashes.
I was one of the many who worked for Holiday Airlines in Lake Tahoe,We also flew the Lockheed Electra.I had the chanch to fly Jump Seat that was a gas!!

Ví muitos electras cruzarem o céu azul quando criança.O som dos motores desse avião ainda estão na minha memória,e me fazem lembrar de minha infância.A VARIG tinha muitos deles. Faziam a Ponte áerea São Paulo-Rio no aeroporto de congonhas,deixaram muita saudade.O Electra,o 707 e o 747 foram e sempre serão para mim os melhores aviões...Pois fazem parte de minha vida
Good vid i flew as load master with Channel Express on Electra, where ever we landed in europe all airport staff would gawp at our 1950s vintage aircraft, all the crew were ex RAF hercules pilots amd engineers guess they fly with JET 2 now.. happy days

I worked at EA for 21 years,I rode jump seat a few times on the L-188,It was one fine airplane.the crews loved them.

Wish I had been there! In 1959 at the Las Vegas airshow, Lockheed put on a demo with an Electra than included a fly by with
three engines shutdown - only number four was running!
