  • je vais t'apprendre a te mettre a genoux ma belle helene..

  • The Indo-European are very large (Celtic, Roman, Germanic, Balto-Slavic). In this case you can say every languagesin Europe are similar.

  • Why does french sometimes sounds like english and sometimes not at all?

  • @tooniemalonie That's because there was some French influence when the French invaded England. French and English are (language) cousins. There's a reason that pig meat is called pork and cow meat is called beef.

  • @jeoyanda Totaly wrong, english and french are not "cousin language". English is germanic language, french is latin language.

  • @Elleestmoi999

    That is actually incorrect

  • @Elleestmoi999 They both belong to the group known as the Indo-European languages.

  • @Elleestmoi999 English has an extense latin influence cause the invassion of england by france... that´s why there are a lot of latin words in english language

  • @jeoyanda the "sisters" of french are italian, spanish (portuguese brazilian mexican etc included) and romanian :). not english. just because "da" means yes both in russian and romanian (for example), doesn't make them cousins.

  • @tooniemalonie Cause you have the french Canadian and the french from France...

  • excellent...

  • I don`t know what to say when I see this . Amazing? Fantastic ? It`s not enough ...

  • @fuambaelvis Pourquoi pas ?

  • @fuambaelvis Tout à fait d'accord!

  • hermoso ;)

  • @katju5hka Nada uczistsia innostrannych jazykow :)

  • Ave Maria ......... <3

  • Ave Maria Save me ..... =((

  • @banderiwka no, i fack you ass/

Bravo!

  • That part, where Frollo is watching, is my favorite. I can see pain in his eyes, and desire. And Esmeralda's beautiful voice, strong and touching.

  • @cruelvamp1 Same thing ! Frollo looks so sad... :/

  • Ave Maria, Please pardon me. For standing, please now be forgiving Ave Maria,

No one ever taught me about kneeling Ave Maria, Please protect me From all fools, grief and evils untold Which rule this big world Ave Maria, I'm a stranger and you're my last recourse Ave Maria, Please now hear me And take down all these walls between us As friends we'll all be Ave Maria, Please watch over my life night and day. Ave Maria Save me, I pray Please guard me and my love, like I say Ave Maria

  • in the next comment is my edit of the official English rhyming translation of the song, because I wanted to edit it a bit. I hope you'll enjoy

  • Ave Maria, parlo a te come amica pagana!

  • she looks like Kayden Kross.

  • Was the original in Quebec?

  • great, many thanks for uploading this nice song

  • Here is English translation of the French lyrics of this song (which some asked about) Ave Maria, forgive me, I stand before you, Ave Maria, Not Knowing how to kneel Ave Maria save me From grief, evil and fools, who rule this Earth Ave Maria, From everywhere pilgrims come to you to pray Ave Maria Hear me Bring down the barriers between us, [Because] we are all brothers Ave Maria Guard [protect] my days and my nights Ave Maria save Me Protect my love and my life Ave Maria

  • Szeretnék csatlakozni Magyarországról a rajongói körbe.

  • @domnikrita90 it's a very beautiful language especially in this context, but the "it's the most beautiful in the world" makes you look stupid and ignorant ;)

  • 0:54 is the perfect touch to this beautiful piece that goes right to the heart

  • Beautiful and so touching....

  • J'ADORE LE FRANCAIS

  • Merci beaucoup. Cette comédie musicale me manque. I love Hélène Ségara. This musical, this song... That's what made me discover her, and I love her since.

  • I wanna learn French ASAP!!!!!!

  • @carlozan092 I AM WITH YOU!

  • shes not even catholic, in fact she is gypsy so this makes no sense

  • @gundrian She's Pagan. This musical is inspired by Victor Hugo's chef d'oeuvre "Notre Dame de Paris." Esmeralda is a gypsy, but like for many of them her religion is a mix of christianism (Catholicism) and paganism. (Most gypsies around that time came from Spain). What makes this song meaningful, poetic and beautiful is her innocent and clumsy prayer.

  • @JujuDeRoussie Well in the book, it never says she is a Pagan as such. She was raised by gypsies, but she didn't always understand what they tried to teach her. But in this scene, she is praying sincerely for God's protection.

  • @gundrian hence the "Ave Maria Paien" meaning pagan ave maria... its the oxymoronic quality to the song that makes it so moving..

  • @gundrian """shes not even catholic, in fact she is gypsy so this makes no sense""""

You should learn french to understand the meaning of this song.

  • @Biloutemag

and btw, being a gypsy and catholic is no contradiction, since one is the ethnicity and one the religion. it's as if you say: "there were 3 french children and one jewish". It's wrong, all four children are french, but one is jewish and three are catholic or whatever, do you get this? most gypsies are orthodox btw

  • @slinkyredthing You didn't understand the meaning of my late post !

There are lot of catholic gypsies. They come by hundreds of thousands at the yearly pelerinage of Saintes-Marie de la Mer !

  • @gundrian You don't have to be of a specific religion to pray for protection.

  • I feel so touched...

  • this its perfect.....beautiful.......

  • Goosebumps!

  • her voice is so beautiful. I love how much feeling she has while singing.

  • thanks a lot..who's the singer..

  • @noeltandog

The singer of this song? its Helene Segara. =D

  • I love the touch of Frollo watching her. The look on his face is just priceless! You can really sense the sorrow, torment and love he feels, which he seems to try his hardest to supress. So touching!

  • Why is she on her knees, and saying I who refuse to kneel?

  • @Biloutemag

Aha! Merci! This production more than anything else makes me want to learn French.

  • @caseyspaos ive been taking french since 10th grade, which makes me enjoy this more

  • @caseyspaos I'm learning a lot of French from it! :D

(It's quite useful because I want to move to France in the future). :)

  • This is a particularly fine musical. It is one of the top three ever made;scored;produced. The arrangements are splendid and the spartan staging ideal.

  • French Frollo and Quasimodo are much better than their Italian counterparts, but both French and Italian Esmeraldas are great - perfect Esmeralda would be someone with Helene´s Le process and Visite de Frollo a Esmeralda but with Lola´s La tortura.

  • This song makes me sad because of her eventual fate.

  • I prefer the voice of this actress than the italian/spanish one...but the italian males actors are so much better that is impossible to say exactly the opposite...

  • biennnn

  • bian

  • Brilliant!

but one thing.. I cant understand......

If she is Gipsy Why singin 'AVE MARIA? ''

  • @SatisfiedPhobias That's why the name of the song is "Ave Maria Paien". Paien means "pagan" in English.

  • @Peuplierjaime

    Ahhhhhhhh..

    Got it Now =]

    Thanx for explanation

  • @SatisfiedPhobias "Ave Maria" is latin...in those times,as you probably know, the church used to pray in latin:"Ave Maria, gratia plena dominus tecum...etc,etc".So,in this scene Esmeralda is into a church and probably uses the latin to set to Mary through the common invocation of those times. But,as you can see,she doesn't keep going using latin, she continues her prayer using her own words...

  • @valemartina

oh. Its more clear for me now!

    Thank you :)

  • @SatisfiedPhobias it was a pleasure...:-)

  • Great Devotional...appealing song...

  • jme souviien quand c'etaiit moii a sa place trop biien

  • brilliant!!

  • love it!!!!

i tried to sing this song...if you want to see...click on my name ;)

  • Simplesmente maravilhoso

  • omg so beautiful, visual and audio, but i love most #19 BELLE. SANG BY GAROU.

  • people shouldn't applaud between the acts, it's so anticlimactic!

  • magnifique interpretation!

  • this opera is wonderful and does justice to Victor Hugo's great work. When you read the book as written by Hugo, not the one we all read in high school, you learn the meaning of life, family, liberty and happiness. If you can learn it.

  • @glennis3 this is not an opera, it's a musical. There's kind of a huge difference... =)

  • @sweetnessglyc How is this not an opera?

  • @TeenageSchizo It's a musical. Rock Opera at the most. Operas are less contemporary and usually have more than 2 acts.

  • @DarthxErik Okay. That makes sense.

  • @sweetnessglyc Ca s'appelle un opéra-rock.

  • the most powerful rendition I have ever seen, Plus to have never known the words...to learn this way with this rendition. speechless

  • la mejor

  • Comment s`appelle l`actrice?

  • @anamaria2012 Hélène Segara

  • First time I noticed Frollo up there, watching her as she sang this song... It's creepy and bittersweet at the same time.

  • beautiful!!!

    brilliant...

  • very well done, but it is kinda repetitive..

  • superbe

  • poor esmeralda. it's not her fault those 3 freaks are after her.

  • Lindo demais !!!!

    Belissimo !!!

    Kisses from Brazil !!!

  • nastyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • @ghostsofhistory

    huh? what do you mean?

  • excellent........the most hermosa ..un deleite para el espiritu.....

  • omg she is so intence with this song. it seems like a hard song to sing.

  • clean tears from my bloodeyes

  • beautyful, in all the version. Thank you! I love this song

    *****

  • @smakk86 stop compares !

  • No, the French version is the best, because its the original version, and songs are more beautiful in French

  • @shamrock1585

The Italian version is the original one.

  • @AmyLeeKaulitz French version is the FIRST and original version

  • @shamrock1585

    You're mistaken.

Notre Dame De Paris is an Italian singer Riccardo Cocciante's idea of 1999 together with other two collaborators, and the first song written was Bella(Belle).

THEN there was the French version, because the first song was written in Italian.

Both versions have been played first, but the original idea is Italian.

  • @AmyLeeKaulitz In France, Notre-Dame de Paris is considered as a French comedy. Richard Cocciante is half french half italian. Sorry if my english is bad

  • @shamrock1585

    Don't worry. ^_-

    Versions are contemporary.

And Notre Dame De Paris is set in France...xD

  • @AmyLeeKaulitz The orignal version is written in french. Cocciante has an italian father and a french mother. He learn italian at only 11. French is is maternal language.
