Could you email me some of the tips on riding you were giving this woman? I heard chatter, then "see how that settled him in?" What exactly did you tell her. I recently got a Paso to break/train. I use NH methods. Started groundwork, a ways from riding, yet. I see the gait is already there, so it will be my job to adapt myself to it. I would love to correspond with you for info. Thanks.
She told me to tighten up on the reins a little more for more contact. The bridle is different than a traditional Western bridle which is normally ridden with loose reins. The extra contact signaled to the horse that I wanted more out of him, gets his attention, I guess. I'm no expert on riding since most of my riding has been on rental horses that had bad habits from years of bad riders. This horse is very well trained and responsive!
Looks like you've been riding these horses forever! I'm an all-around rider who's spent her whole life riding "trotting" breeds in both english & western (mostly english - my love is dressage), & I've experienced soooo many breeds, but NEVER gaited ones! I feel like I'm missing out on an experience & would LOVE to try out all the gaited breeds just for fun & the experience (to compare against the trotting horses, too!). You're lucky to have been able to do so! :)
I have had my Coronado King for over 20 years. I got him as a 3 year old. He is an amazing horse. Super intelligent, and like riding a cloud. He injured his leg a few years ago and I injured my back and hip a few years before that, so he hasn't been ridden much in the past 5 years or so. We are both retired now and he is only ridden a few times a year by my 5 year old grandson because he is so gentle and I can let him ride in the circle pen by himself when he comes to visit.
ok...how is the ride differant then a paso fino?? i am going to look at a pervian paso..not a paso fino i have major back issues anyone ?? have any thoughts?? thank you for reading
peruvian pasos Termino with their front legs {swing them out as they move}, they have more forward motion than up and down like the paso finos. Peruvians are unbelievably comfortable.
From what I've [Heard], the Peruvian Paso is a very nice smooth horse to sit, especially for people who have back problems. I read in an Equus issue once that there were several breeds of horses that were good for people who had mild to severe back problems and the Peruvian Paso was one of those horses because they are so smooth.
Flippin AWESOME, ya? It's a little strange at first cause you keep waiting for the bounce, but it never comes. :) I worked on a Peruvian breeding/show ranch for a year and that was an AMAZING experience.
i tried out a paso for my sore back..but i found the constant movement more irritating than my warmbloods long reg gait

It was a little tiring for me, but I wasn't used to the gait or riding at all, for that matter. It had been a few years since I was even on a horse!
