  • non attachment the thoughts are seen as transient. What notices these ideas and concepts? what is noticing is who you are.Consciousness notices itself it's vastness

    see's itself.

  • This is one of the genuine and classic discussion I have ever seen. He has indepth knowledge. Thanks for uploading this..

  • When he talks about being insulted towards the end of the video, he doesn't make it too clear. I think what he means is that if someone insults you, it's a projection of who they are. How it affects you is a projection of who u are. If your ego is controlled, there's nothing anyone can say to hurt you. This is nowness, not constantly in every 'moment' worrying about what you did or what you've got to do. If u do that u never really experience 'the moment'. Thats why meditating is so important.

  • Michael makes spiritual awakenning deceivingly hard to grasp.

  • Hi there. If you like this, you might like my book at evolvingcaveman 'dot' com

It's a kind of guide to navigate future human evolution.

    Jeff

  • man! whatever he says is already present in the teachings of the buddha, to the extent that he could have easily taken all the ideas presented here from buddhism.

  • @abhishekthedon nothing wrong with that, lol

  • Too many light bulb moments caused him to go bald

  • what do u mean ?

  • @davfritz ROFL

  • I wish I could stop thinking, just for five minutes, but I find it so hard. I think I need to find out a way to do it, or maybe I just need to practice more!

  • @BozCut Dear Bozcut, I used to think it was hard too. I tried to stop my mind for 15 years to no avail. But I can do it now. If you are truly serious about being Free, read THE POWER OF NOW by Eckhart Tolle. He will show you the way to do it. The key is to sharply observe the mind. If you do that, involuntary thoughts stop immediately. Be as alert as a cat watching a mousehole. If thoughts continue, it means that you need to be more alert, more aware. You can do it right now.

  • Being in the moment occurs when you are totally aware and able to open yourself to your surroundings. In that moment, you free yourself from every other moment. No regrets or shame of things past. No fear or anticipation of things to come. You are really free and able to bring your presence to bear on dealing with what you have come up against.

Consider that you are on a journey and no matter where you started or where you are going, if you do not pay attention to where you are, you are nowhere,

  • This is nothing new, it sounds like he's read the book "A Course in Miracles" that was written in the 1977, inspired by the Christ Jesus to the Author Helen Schucman and typed by William Thetford. My personal opinion is that It's a very good read and can be very enlightening. Book number: ISBN 978-0-670-86975-6

  • Does anyone know who is this person and are there any more videos, talks or books by him? Thanks.

  • So what happens if everyone believes this?

That everyone perceives everything as inpersonal?

And everyone stops caring about the future or the past?

In this condition we can perceive very clearly but there's a catch right?

In this condition we cannot act upon what we perceive.

Or maybe it's not that we can't but simply don't desire to anymore.

Somehow this doesn't appeal to me at all.

  • @poopoop121212 I am not sure you got it right. ..Arguing with anyone, trying to model others around our fantasies and pushing oneself forward NEVER led to anything good and I guess we´ve all seen that :-)

  • @finehomemadewine Well certainly trying to force someone towards your own beliefs never led to anything good. History has told us that. But arguing and questioning each others thinking can give someone new insights about themselfs and the world around them. In other words, we inspire eachother. If we stop caring about these things, i think we might actually hinder our own development.

  • @poopoop121212 Exactly :-) and we don´t even have to look into history to realize that- everydays relationships between people show it clearly enough !-).

About the other half- my English isn´t very good, but I didn´t hear him say anything like that. (??).. Did You listen to both parts?

Anyway- happy jeurney to You and everyone :-).

  • @finehomemadewine Well yeah. In he said that our thoughts are not important or real. I agree that they are not real. But I do not agree that they are not important. It's because of our thoughts and desires that we move to understand ourselfs and the world. At least that's what I think.

And thanks! Good journey to you to my friend :D.

  • We don't have to be concerned about the effects of our actions on others if we are living in awareness -- because out of that presence of mind, right action will follow and this will not likely include insulting or obnoxious behavior. A loving disposition naturally arises from awareness.

  • I like the talk, but it seems it is missing a bit in the beginning and on the end too. Is there any part 3 anywhere, please??

  • Unfortunately at 3.00 he goes wrong.

As I write people in various parts of the world are being bombed, shot, raped, buggered, and variously abused by others in ways that are very real and not their fault.

"how you feel is never the result of what anybody has done to you"

Yes...tell that to the children being raped right now as you read this.

  • @Drastam Absolutely GOOD POINT I was thinking the same

  • I don't really know that it can work unless everyone does it. So, people are allowed to say or do what they want and no one is to react, just leave them alone, they're just being themselves? Oh, come on. That would give open slather to all sorts of repugnant behaviour and speech.

  • @SuperInnkeeper

Yes and you dont have to be concerned about the effects of your actions on others because if they get hurt its their fault. Brilliant eh? What a relief.

  • @Drastam - I don't think that is quite the correct interpretation. See above.

  • @meghan42 I think your point is a bit of a fudge. He is not talking about a world of realised beings. He is talking about our actual world.

If we were all realised conscious beings your point might be correct; but we are not.

Meantime our thoughts & actions do impact on others.

  • @Drastam . I do agree with you Drastam in that thoughts and actions do impact others. My comment was more in response to someone else who seemed a bit gleeful that we don't have to worry about our thoughts and actions. On the other hand, I can only be responsible for my own actions and I find that awareness brings right action.

  • nice up, so practical, thanks

  • my question is(and please could someone giv an opinion), if i feel the need to put this type of imformation foward so others can realise the TRUE reality, is it me acting on ego to change others to the way i like or prefer in a way,or is it my higher being that wants the eperience and joy from it??? i hope i explained it properly for you to comment on

  • @inglasterrano remember you are not the "doer" so if you are so compelled than do so, remembering that what arises in you as a thought comes from awareness, not YOU the person or the ego. It is awareness recognizing itself and wanting to come forth in whatever form it can.

  • @xfloweroflifex thank you so much that helps alot. but then i get another question. how can i distiguish the difference of a useless thought to the thought of awareness. is it the compelling feeling?

  • @inglasterrano first, one would say that there are no "useless" thoughts, if all thought arises from presence. But I know what you're getting at, there are the thoughts that are conditioned, habitual, seemingly useless, but in my experience even those are trying to show me something useful. Thoughts that are more useful, to me or you, are those thoughts that arise that are helpful to others or blatantly helpful to our awakening from ignorance, which in the end are ALL thoughts!

  • @xfloweroflifex ! I don't know what teachings youve had but Adyashanti has been one of my most enlightening & down to earth teachers. On his website if you click on "cafe dharma" & then "video" he has the basic teachings videos part 1 & 2 what the teachings are & how to apply them

  • Hi Guys! Just to highlight on what Michael hall spoke about in this interview; it correlates directly with the teachings of Buddhism... I am not here to promote or demote any form or religious beliefs, merely pointing out a fact that the Buddha also teaches this... "the chatter mind" is also known as the "monkey mind" ... to tame the monkey mind... (please, if you find this interesting do Google up monkey mind to inform yourself) Mike's basically put it into a more logical approach. GL L&L :)

  • @p0rkytso Yes Buddhism, but also and more directly from Advaita (non-duality) and the Hindu Upanishad scriptures which is where Buddhism originated. :-)

  • The real world can only be seen through the eyes of some one not taking part in it.

As a painter steps away from its masterpeace, only then will he see the entire picture.

Its a ride, being in the self "docking station" observing the mind.

Then getting on the mind bleeps causing different emotions / situations / rides.

TV/Drugs even School, alter human ability's to do this, step away from the painting, and you will see reality...

  • @TheDigitalSmoke well written, 10+

  • Is this very interesting!!!! Life is all about perceptions and how you percieve things!! I have come to realize expanded realities thanks to lots of meditation and deep thinging...and LSD. I feel as if I have no ego anymore. I love it! I love the concept of mind expansion!!! awesome! x

  • @britishogo what does mind expansion mean to you?

  • @soccom8341576 Good question! Seeing the world through unclouded eyes. Being able to see the beauty in everyday common things that don't get looked at twice. Witnessing the world through multiple perspective and ever journeying to enlightenment. To live in harmony with every being. I believe mind expansion is more than just seeing your existence as just being, but to ever wonder why we are here, how we came about to be here...not to just live side by side in a same routine. To think.

  • @britishogo That's a good overview explanation.

Why we are here? I think we are here to live, but we must find out how we want to live.

  • Truly food for serious thought.

  • All the spiritual/religious people I have met have been gullible, confused and simple-minded. I find it sad that so many people try to hide from the real world.

  • Please define the "real world". I don't mean to challenge you, but you have to realize that my "reality" is very different from your "reality". What is reality? Does it exist independently and is it absolute? Are we able to know what reality is? Even quantum physicists don't have definite answers to these questions!

  • The 'real world' is how things really behave, as opposed to how we wish things would behave. I regard the set of everything (i.e. the universe) to be reality. If we do indeed all have different realities then the set of our realities is the reality. Just because we don't know everything, doesn't make fanciful speculation rational. BTW: 'What reality is' is philosophy and not science; physicists are only concerned with predicting behaviour.

I'm not challenging either, just providing answers.

  • @lago4 Reality is what you make of it Lago, it all begins in the mind... how you choose to live your life really depends on your thoughts/action ... sometimes just thinking about something and taking no action will only leave you confused & wandering between worlds... materialism, social popularity, self, acknowledgment..

There is only 1 reality, and that reality is in the "NOW" and even in the now we tend to lose ourselves and get lost into our strand of thoughts... (personal opinion :))

  • @C0C0nutFace I wonder where you meet these people coco, and I also wonder what you consider as the "real world" have you ever questioned yourself as to who you are? are you the name you are called on a day-to-day basis? are you the son/daughter of your parents? are you the things you own? the house you live in? the car you drive? the language you speak? the colour of your skin?

Simplicity = Peace, Peace = Zen, Zen = Life, Life = Beautiful, Beautiful = existence, existence = imagination :)

  • @p0rkytso More meaningless ramblings from a pickled mind. Get a job.

  • Quote at the time 2:03, "I don't need them to be anything other than what they are. Why would I - why would I think my ideas about what they should be are better than their ideas? I mean it makes no sense."

That's an extremely good quote that every person in the world should take into consideration. This message of this quote could be applicable to transphobic and homophobic bigots and religious people.

  • @1993Vanessa2009 try looking up Dr stephen L hairfield. I think you will like his work.

  • hi,.i bring guys to aa meetings and i just cannot believe peole saying about higher powers and all that stuff,,then i have to explain to newcomers what i think it all means,,i know all this budda , meditaion, spirituality, religions etc etc were driving me insane , because i did not seem to be acting like a guru,....no one shud feel pressurised into ohers beliefs systems or styles ,.ie find your own or at least TRY,

  • It depends on the situation.U can Kill them with kindness.Let it roll off my back. However, when someone says something insulting to me, I'd rather say that was a terrible thing to say, or that was not nice, without insulting them back. Usually the other person will feel embarrassed. Otherwise you become a doormat. You must stand up for yourself but do not take things personally. For it is their problem.

  • this unortunately excuses alot of unaccpeptable behaviour i my opinion and is very idealistic.

I agree that the ego plays a large part of our thinking and interpretations. but not sure about not reflecting on on thinking- how do we change otherwise?

  • chattering mind? what a mambo jumbo of none sense, y shouldnt have an ego to defande on? american people are so religeously dump!

  • I've read all the comments above and one thing is telling me that only yourself know the real awakening, you don't look for enlightenment you just need to do some clean-up maintainance of your mind, once again ,I think you're great !

  • absolutely brilliant! :-) Very liberating and inspirational. Thank you for putting this up.

  • Very enlightening indeed. It reminds me of the poem The Light of Asia, where Sir Edwin Arnold puts into the mouth of the Buddha.

    We suffer from ourselves

    None else compels

None other holds you that you live and die

    And whirl upon the wheel

And hug and kiss its spokes of agony

    Its tyre of tears

    Its centre of nothingness.

  • Breathtakingly simple & logical.

  • Nothing is personal and nothing is important. That is true freedom. We do live in Matrix. Do you want to know what it is?:)

  • thank you for this video, it's amazing how the mind works.

  • Thankyou for this

  • this is very true in my opinion about simply seeing things as they are .. but then i wreste with the fact of ... what if your not thinking and simply watching someone ... lets say ... abusing on another ?? do you simply neglect it ?? theres a time and a place for everything ... including thinking. bottom line. with out thinking you cold not reflect on your actions and grow. there needs to be a balance. the problem is that we are addicted to CONSTANT thinking.

  • *wrestle

  • I like this lecture, despite it being on a bible thumping show. This is good thinking for a holy roller and athiest alike.

  • If i gave no concern to my thoughts who am I: a dead head......I would rather live inside myself then outside and through others....

  • Wow! Really good advice!

  • Great stuff, Michael! Very consistent with other areas I'm studying: Buddhism, yoga, Sankhya, Vipassana, Toltec.... Thanks for posting this.

  • I don't like his way of thinking....is what he sayi ng true or not? I listened through the whole video however......
