@meshuggahfan Uh, you'd be wrong on that account since i own two and I can tell you with 100% certainty that slapping the bottom does nothing to seat the mag. On an AR-15 that is a different story. Everyone thinks they are John Wayne!
@Crimble67 bullshit, i call bullshit pal.... You don't make enough money to afford one. And since you are such an expert on the subject, i guess you missed the video with my m1a in it. Idiot. Get lost kid and get a job.
@meshuggahfan O.K., so after you rock the mag in and hear the "click" and the mag is fully seated then what does slapping the bottom add? Answer; the feeling that you have an AR-15 and not an M1A. AK mags work the same way, just the click which means fully inserted and that's it.
Thats a kick ass peice man. but having the for-grip seems kinda uncomfortable with a rifle handle like that dont cha think? i never tried a combo like that but im just wondering.
@dabom12898 Hey man. I've recently swapped out the pistol grip with a Magpul Angled Fore-Grip. The ergos are great and makes the rifle feel more inline.
It does get heavy sometimes but I like the weight overall. If you don't like the rails you can get the regular SOCOM model, which does not have the rail system.
amazing... those shoes look like they are made out of real leather, i bet they could hold up if you walked 5 miles in the mud. steel toe too, just doesn't get any better than that
looks fun! I'm in the market for one. I magpul'd the F out of my Smith and Wesson M&P-15 MOE edition. Now I'm looking at either a SOCOM 2 or a Rem 700. Really leaning to the SOCOM
To all that want a SOCOM i'm sorry that you don't own one. And to the ones that own one isn't this just the coolest rifle you ever owned I mean she's short she's powerful and she will knock down what ever she hit's at 500 yards and less. Oh ya I got rid my wife and replaced her with the SOCOM the best thing I did a few years back. So when i look at her i think and smile and say how do you like my now BITCH, HA HA HA HA!
I just sold my AR and two pistols to get this bad boy. Well worth the sacrifice.. Midway has a pistol grip collapsible stock made by VLTOR you guys might want to check out. It's $465.45 but definitely completes the Socom 2.
GOD THAT IS A SEXY GUN!!! doesnt feel kinda wierd tho to have a rifle grip in the back and have a pistol grip up front? even so, that with the pistol grip and light/laser WAS FUCKING SICK
i advise those who can get norinco's to buy the chinese m14/M1A. Way cheaper, decent enough manufacturing and you can trick it out as much as an ar-15 or sks
@Dilliboy63 The pricks screwed us down here in the U.S. Stinking 922r slammed the door on the Norinco's for us. Damn lefties will put the screws to it wherever they can, but we got high-cap mags again anyway, and in the end it's the ammo that'll eat you out of house and home;) 1600+ rounds waiting for daylight here. Eyes forward, powder dry.
I want a SOCOM so bad, but I'm only 14, so $1700 is a LOT of money. Looks like a great rifle, though. Plus, it's made by Springfield, it must be awesome!
I am about to invest in a SOCOM II. I've heard nothing but good things other than maybe pick up a cheek rest, but that's not a problem that'll keep me from picking one up. Anyone have any glaring problems or dislikes out there...
@mlaberts Ya dude I have a Socom II and I love it. Very reliable and sturdy and the coolest rifle you will ever own in your life. When you buy this rifle you will not need an ar 15 this rifle will kick any ar 15's ass. The only con is the front sight (trijicon tritium) mine was overtightened from the factory and was cracked but they sent me a new one for free. There are no cons or dislikes about the rifle itself out there you will love it and have it forever.
Man this rifle rocks!! I shoot one in one of my videos, low recoil(suprisingly considering its a .308 round) and deadly accurate. Curtis, the guy who's gun I'm shooting, actually blew the 5 area(on the target in my vid) away at 50yds. no scope!! It is that lethal. A bit pricey, but well worth it I think.
Not bad at all. A couple of my female friends went to town with it and no complaints about "achy" shoulders the next day. They did complain about the weight though.
That's what the Socom 16 is for, man. But you'd change your mind about the rails if you'd done a military night-fire. You can never have too many options when you've got anywhere from three to five attachments to put on your weapon.
I agree, I scavenge and recover about 99% of my brass and hit the reloading bench hard. Also I want to plug that old saying that seems to be vanishing, "always leave a place better than how you found it"
I'm torn between this and the SOCOM-16, which is similar but lacks the full rails on the forend. Unfortunately the rails add about two pounds to the front of the weapon--which is where you least want weight--so handling is negatively affected to an extent. On the other hand, I do like vertical foregrips.
You mean muzzle climb? In theory, maybe, yes. But at a significant cost to handling. If you made the weapon heavy enough it wouldn't recoil at all, but you also wouldn't want to shoulder it. Anyone who has tried to hold an unsupported rifle accurately on target for more than five seconds or so, knows that 2 pounds (especially up front) makes a huge difference. Muzzle climb can be significantly reduced with straight-pull stocks (a la AR-15) and a well-designed muzzle brake.
Why? Why do you put this video on here so I can end up drooling in front of my computer and only dream of tossing out around $3000 for an M1A with a scope?
Did they make an upper reciever and bore to accomodate the .308 like the good ole M14 ? And does the SOCOM II mean that it has the front rails stock with the gun?
What kind of groups are you looking to acheive? If you are looking to knock down a standard silhouette, you are good to go. I haven't shot from a bench rest, but I've put all 20 rounds in the four to five range at 200 yards.
I read a review of the SOCOM II and they state that 300 yds with a 150 grain bullet is still considered quite effective out of this rifle. Heavier bullets and longer distances will suffer. I still want to get one!
No, 200 yards is spitting distance for a SOCOM II rifle. In order to really get the most out of this weapon you're going to need a third generation m1a mount, a leopold 10x scope with mil-spec reticle and use either 150 or 165 grain nosler polymer bonded rounds. With this you should get nice three inch groupings out to 400 yards or even 500 yards with favorable conditions, practice and proper breathing technique.
