Her parents are so awful to her. Anorexia is so solitary. Nothing anyone says or do can change your mind. If she doesn't want to get better, yelling and nagging just makes it worse. What idiots. I hate when parents think eating disorders are about them. My parents really love me and sent me away to a residential treatment center for a year and a half, but at least they didn't treat me like a criminal.
People are so ignorant about eating disorders. Do you think Nancy would be getting treated like this if she had cancer? NO! why? Because that's considered a real disease. Help for that and everything else is advertised everywhere but no one gives a crap about anorexia, bulimia, or ednos. Even overweight people know where to go for help or what diet food to buy, but no one cares about EDs. Parents are sending their kids to psych wards bc they're so ignorant about it. the world is messed up.
Nancy is SO bad at hiding food. You would think that someone with an ED would be better at it. Hiding food under the bed and in napkins is pretty stupid. Some people with Eds even hide food in their clothes and hair. I would NEVER hide my food under the bed. Someone would find it for sure, and it would smell horrible.
I think they should have thrown her out. I think then she'd be forced to obsess over how she was going to pay her bills and it would take away the time she had left to think about food.
i think if more people were informed about eating disorders they would know how to treat people with eating disorders. if only families knew the damage they do when they force food or scream and yell about eating.
I've never been anorexic (although I tried to be when I was 19; I just didn't/don't have the willpower). But...I worked for a small family business, and the daughter was anorexic. I saw fights between father & daughter similar to the father/daughter fight here. The family really gets frustrated.
spershall, i thought the same, but maybe they filmed some of the scenes when she was thinner when tracey was at the start of her recovery (thus also being thinner), then filmed the earlier scenes when she looked a bit more healthy towards the end of the filming period/tracey's recovery? i don't know, just a hopeful theory.
I don't know a lot about this at all, but the way she comes across in this film is very attention seeking. Maybe she just doesn't play this role very well because its too personal for her
Urgh I hate the mother so much =( I'm so glad my mother doesn't get like that, it'd be horrible and totally discouraging even if she was trying to recover.
@spershall The movie was filmed backwards... so at the beginning of the film was actually her once shed gained some weight after her anorexia... if that makes sense!
@spershall she didnt loose wieght she already had anorexia they filmed this film in reverse so she was actually gaining weight and getting better :) x
Can't believe the food under the bed thing, think I might have a gone a bit further to conceal it when I had an ED. Then again my bed is lower to the ground and I lose stuff under there for months before finding it.
yeah I am. About 4 years. People were and still are like "just eat. it's a human instinct. how can you go against it? it's just easier to eat." and i hate having to explain to them that its not that easy. it will never work like that. :( I'm guessing your like nancy too (username) but, just asking...
this movie is soo painful t watch... i apprectiate the upload... but it is triggering memories... just people watching me, asking questions, asking about what i eat

If my sister was anorexic, I'd be glad if she eats that much in front of me. I wouldn't yell at her.

the brother is so stupid, when he takes her to the mall and thinks she's gonna eat a piece of pie, like what are you stupid!
If you knew anorexics, no human being can make them eat, and than he takes off pissed off, like duh kid your the one who brought her there.
I understand anorexia, but this brothers mentality is ignorant, if he thought he was gonna get her to eat.

What does having a good life or not mean anyway? Look at the way she treats her. I would have some type of mental disorder aswell.

I know I read that they had to pad her for some of the scenes and use makeup to make her look healthier.

So wait her mother drives her home and then immediately decides she needs to go back? Then why did she drive her home in the first place?
and way to go dad, he's the only one with the nuts to give her a wake up call.

The fact that Tracey Gold, a former anorexic, is visibly losing weight for this role really disturbs me.

seriously?
tatulover2120 3 years ago
I think she was actually battling the disorder at the time of filming. Someone else mentioned it was filmed in reverse order as she was recovering.

She was still trying to recover.
