  • I think Marlo just wanted to be feared. He was on a major power trip dropping bodies left and right. Stringer was smart, but he lacked street smarts and began to make bad decisions after he got screwed over by that politician.

  • @Tigerlily21 Stringer turned rat so fuck stringer. Avon was my favorite and this mothafucker rats him out.

  • Stringer and Joe were business man , Avon was a gangster. Marlo wanna de king of both.

  • You know, at first I didn't see why Idris Elba got so much praise for this role. (I thought he was excellent, but no better than any of the other actors, really) But upon rewatching, you notice all the little things he does, like the fact that whenever he's outside or in an insecure location, he rarely looks at the person he's talking to. He's always looking at his surroundings, trying to make sure there's no cops or rivals around. Dude was paranoid, even more than Avon in some ways.

  • that scene is the beggining of the end ,IMO for the co-op... The others put Marlo in the co-op so they had one less thing to worry about but things turned out differently... Marlo caught this opportunity to expand his power and he started playing everybody until he was powerfull enough to tell them right in their face "Hey I'm the King here" in the final co-op meeting,,,,

  • Stringer Bell was too smart for the drug game... But he was too dumb to see what claydavis was about..

On the other hand, this nigga Marlo Stanfield, damn, this a troglodyte right here man....

  • i hated dtringer after he started fuckin d's girl, but thats how niggas will do u

  • Indeed, Marlo looked cold and calculating. Sort of an innocent look but you know there is something deadly about this mofo and he will just as soon kill you as look at you. If I met this actor on the street...I'm outta here.

  • Terrible upload... You cut the end of the scene out.

  • Man i just hate Marlo. I liked how Stringer has found a way to play the game without any casualties. But he should've known that a psychopath like Marlo doesn't like this kind of game. Should've killed him when he got the chance.

  • The fact that he let the beatdown on his people go unanswered let marlo know the barksdales were soft

  • @Michan0o @tabbypappy I couldn't agree more

  • Marlo was lucky more than good. Season 3 The Barksdale crew had him cornered before they got popped. Season 4 and 5 his downfall started. Every King in the game has a limited shelf life. If you are lucky you get out alive.

  • Marlo- Michael Corleone

    Stringer- Hyman Roth/Moe Green

  • When Stringer is talking about how smart isn't enough to stay in the game, I think of him. His downfall eventually came down to his will to change the game; he thought he could change the way it's played. But the game never changes, only the players. He was too smart for his own good.

  • Idris Elba's accent is flawless. I was shocked to learn he was from London.

  • @tabootiki lol same here!

  • @tabootiki I came here to say the exact same shit. It is remarkable.

  • @tabootiki The actor who played Kareem Sayid from OZ was also from England; so is McNulty, who I remember playing Henry Tudor in Olivier's (I think) adaptation of Richard III. Call it the British Invasion of American cinema.

  • Yo Marlo is just like Michael from Godfather. He never showed his emotion, he would kill his own brother if he got in the way of him makin money and he got the job done. Stringer was cool no doubt but he was a snake, double-crossing and slithering and I lost all my respect for him when he started bangin D's wifey. That being said, Marlo is the game he's a symbol for what you really gotta be in order to survive in the dope game no room for softness and love you gotta be a fuckin monster.

  • @SonnyA89 Yeah, but I would say that Marlo was a hell of alot worse that Michael.

  • stringer was the entrepreneur, like prop joe, but marlo wanted to be the main head. he wanted power.

  • Marlo seem more interested in being a dictator than making money

  • Funny how stringer ended up getting knocked by the property people just shows you those higher business people are more fucked up than the hustlers on the streets!

  • marlo today,, would be ivan the terrible

  • 0:31 to 0:39 Stringer Bell was mentioning real life Baltimore Drug Kingpins from the 70's with Lil Melvin Williams and some from the 80's like Peanut. Raw Live shit.

  • 3 sex in the city fans where here

  • @avonbarksdalewife What the fuck kind of shit is that.

  • apparently if you show the wire to REAL players they all say it is totally realistic until marlo comes in it, at which point they say 'that little prick be dead in like five seconds'

  • @reltonpelton the reason they feel like that is because stringers, avons, omars, come a dime a dozen in every hood in america but Marlos only show up once in awhile, cuz hes not about what everybody else is

  • This scene illustrates perfectly (for me,anyway) that Stringer was a doomed man.String & Prop Joe founded the co-op under the assumption that there can be honor among thieves.A co-op only works until you bring a player like Marlo in the mix, who'd only use it to expand HIS power base.I'd bet my rent money that Marlo would've taken out Stringer(like he did Prop Joe) if he was'nt already dead.

  • @tabbypappy as u soon saw stringer was at the head of that co op table cuz he too wanted power thats why he was runnin his own moves while avon was in jail.. and if stringer would have been around marlo long enough he would of known he couldn't trust marlo.. unlike prop joe .. joe seemed too nice to be in the drug game you gotta show flex.

  • @dirtysouthg4l i agree with you that stringer wanted power, but he wanted ''legitimate'' power him joining the co-op was just a means to that end.string was hip enough to see that marlo turning the streets of b-more into afghanistan would've put everybody on the cop's radar, which is bad for business.string & joe was on some ''if we can't beat him,try to get him to join us'' shit, basically.but string-like joe-saw this kid as worthy of trust,& not the problem he really was.

  • @tabbypappy Avon would have killed Marlo if police didn't interfere.Marlo was dumb, dunno why was everyone teaching him stuff instead just to kill his dumb ass.

  • @Mariose123 I think everyone knew how dangerous he was, it was easier to just bring him in than to go to war with him.

  • @tabbypappy Unless Stringer caught on to that and then had Marlo taken out first...

  • Take note: this is the only time marlo seems to be somewhat uncomfortable around anybody

  • @klined I dont think he was uncomfortable. But just trying to figure out what Stringer was about. If Stringer would have came at him with respect, Marlo probably stil wouldn't have talked but acknowledged mutual respect. BUT, Stringer came at him like he was an underling. Talking down to him, calling him "boy", and all Marlo was left to do was size him up and figure out the best way to attack him. Thats why he immediately walked outside and told Chris, "Tell our ppl to tool up."

  • @ojonesjr Very True!

  • @ojonesjr disagrre, marlo was power hungry just like a young avon was, string saw a young avon in marlo, he was trying to lay it out for him that there have been dozens of marlos- melvin, big head, peanut.... the game is rigged, u play it and you'll end a pawn, the govt doesnt want u organized or legit it wants u scrapping and killing on the corners over some bullshit. string had his faults but he had the right idea- think big picture because ur name will only ring out for so long.

  • string taught marlo the game right here he told him about the money, about him gettin a driver and shit like dat.

  • in the end marlo had everything stringer always wanted (he was a legit business man) and he never valued it a little ironic in a way

  • he's so right even when it came to Marlo vs. Bodie. Bodie could build up corners but that's where he ended. Marlo was a listener, but Bodie didn't wanna hear it. He killed his boy for STringer Bell but see where String's head really was? he was set on Marlo. String was NEVER BARKSDALE.....FRIGGIN BENEDICT ARNOLD.

  • so was stringer bell a crooked cop or what?

  • @porn1978 no stringer wasnt a cop at all wtf are you talkin about, he just ratted out avon to get him out of the way

  • @iamjohn89 ....i aint say he was a cop, i ASKED if he was you AIRHEAD

  • @porn1978 yeah you prick you asked iand i told

  • @iamjohn89 ....you didnt even answer it right u DUMB fuck

  • @porn1978 i did answer it right, you said "so was stringer bell a crooked cop or what?" and i said no he wasnt a cop at all

  • i like how in this scene with Stringer and the scene where Marlo see's Avon in prison, Marlo only says a few words.

  • stringer bell was a really really poor and dumbed down version of clay davis

just too much street and not enough smarts

  • well said ad...his performance is layered...acting 101

  • he said forget everything bodie taught you, bodie was before them and was the man in Bmore, real gangsta

  • Funny that in a way this is what Marlo used Joe for.

  • Marlo don't blink lol

  • Yo, chill out my homies.

  • man, you got the illest tag name on youtube.

  • fuck. He's right, that is the best one. im really jealous actually

  • he thought he had it all covered. stringer is a foo. i just knew he was gonna get it after they shot up omar and his momma on a sunday.

  • Hey JRilla ease up on the Coke your getting too riled up over this shit

  • Waste of fuccin breath.

  • drop the caps ffs

  • Marlo reminds me of a younger 50 cent. His mannerisms and the way he talks. I imagine 50 ( curtis jackson ) was like Marlo when he was in the drug game.

  • thats crazy cuz i was thankin the same thing hit me up so we can talk more about this

  • @fabien82 50 is a bitch made cunt though with lame lyrics.

  • To this day I'm convinced Marlo was intended to have some sort of antisocial disorder or maybe some form of Asperger's. He was smart, but the quiet way he spoke, rarely showing emotion, his obsession with his "name" and reputation? Something was up there.

  • I know what anti-social personality disorder means and, yes, that's what I'm suggesting the writers may have intended for him to have.

Seriously, chill out. He's just a fictional character and, maybe, ease up on the caps lock.

  • cool story bro

  • @Quimby3000 Agreed. He rose high but fell way faster than B&B.

  • @Quimby3000 Marlo struck me as someone who's made from the same stuff tyrants and dictators are made. He wanted power for power itself. He wasn't moved by women, money, etc. What interested him was the fear his name would create in people's hearts.

  • @Quimby3000 wtf are you talking about? lmao. sociopath maybe, but all what you said i don't think so.

  • @Quimby3000 black people cant have Asperger's

  • @ManiacalMaster yes they can

  • @ManiacalMaster yes they can i know a few up here in england

  • @Quimby3000 I guess he figured he looked harder by keeping silent. "The strong, silent type." That's my 2 cents.

  • @Quimby3000 I believe he was a sociopath.

  • @Quimby3000 to the degree cutthroat capitalism is an "antisocial disorder"...

  • @jubileeshine When you're using "cutthroat" in the literal sense, I'd say it applies.

  • @Quimby3000 you're definately on to something. i always thought he was sort of a sociopath.

  • @Quimby3000 I'm pretty sure he was meant to be a sociopath (antisocial personality disorder). His lack of emotion and remorse, manipulative personality and use of extreme violence are all textbook. Makes him one scary mofo.

  • Stringer was a good character. It's a shame Avon was such an idiot and fucked everything up for practically everyone with his little boy mentallity.

  • @z0mgrugbyreturns DON'T GET IT TWISTED STRINGER WOULD STILL BE ALIVE IF HE WAS NOT A SNAKE THE MAIN REASON HE DIED WAS BECAUSE HE SENT OMAR AFTER BROTHER STRINGER WAS THE REASON HE GOT HIMSELF KILLED HE NEVER FOLLOWED AVON''s LEADERSHIP AND WHEN AVON DID SOMETHING THAT WOULD HELP THERE ORGANIZATION FROM THE PRISON WHEN HE HIRED BROTHER TO HOLD DOWN THE PROJECT TOWERS STUPID STRINGER MADE A DEAL WITH PROP-JOE BEHIND AVON's BACK AND THEN TRYED TO GET OMAR TO KILL BROTHER STRINGER WAS THE IDIOT

  • @JRilla1897

DUDE I THINK YOU SHOULD REALLY STOP WRITING THESE LONG AND FUCKING STUPID SOUNDING RANTS TO PEOPLE ON HERE IN ALL CAPS ON LIKE EEEEEEVERY WIRE VIDEO HERE

SERIOUSLY MAN I SAW YOU POST LIKE 5 OF THESE ON A FEW OTHER VIDEOS MAN

DUDE JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP AND CHILL NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR THIS BULLSHIT

  • Somebody tell this little boy JRilla that The Wire is fiction.

  • chill out mate this is youtube!

  • @JRilla1879 In theory, both Avon and Stringer were both righ and wrong. Avon was right in the fact that they had the best teritory and needed to protect it. But Stringer was right in that they knew their product was shitty and that fiends would start heading over to eastside to cop. Avon was wrong with being stubborn about this, but Stringer was wrong for going behind Avon's back after Avon hired outside muscle (Mouzone).

  • well wat did bodie tell him

  • Stringer, Mcnulty, and even Lester Freaman to an extent, are all British (their actors at least).

  • why did he say forget what bodie tought you

  • he said told u not tought u

  • Marlo learned what he needed to learn from everyone and then took over. He was a beast on the show and only messed up because he was using the phone the greeks gave him instead of another means of communication. Dudes really couldn't think of any other thing than a phone? C'mon now think outside of the box, plus Marlo got off with 10mil anyway

  • @ndeze That's the one way Avon was smarter than him. Avon never used the same phone. Member in the first season when he was dumping cell phones all the time? Marlo was actually too street at times. If you notice all the gangats on the show had their own strengths as well as their own shortcomings. Marlo/Avon/Stringer combined would be like the perfect gangster.

  • @Antrizzle2009 avon actually stopped using phones all together

he even had his main guys not use phones. if you recall when cutty was trying to get up with avon by talking to slim charles, charles had poot call shamrock to get up with avon

  • @gauchebag when i said Avon never used the same phones, I didn't mean Avon personally, i meant his crew. We're on the same page, I should have worded that differently. He was actually more efficient with this than Marlo was.

  • @Antrizzle2009 yea barksdale crew was an interesting contrast to marlo's crew

  • @ndeze he didn't mess up his lawyer did

levy left his damn number in the rolodex in front of herc and probably knew herc would leak the number

  • @gauchebag dude shoulda been switching phones

  • @ndeze you're wrong

marlo did nothing wrong. his lawyer screwed up.

levy knew the wiretap was illegal and marlo would walk however the DA had dirt on levy, and he certainly wasn't gonna go to jail for his client. so he essentially gave up his client with da qui pro quo

  • @gauchebag i disagree marlo allowed himself to always be at constant risk for a wiretap by continuing to use that same phone the greek provided, before he started dealing with them he aint use phones, by letting the greek get him to start using those text messages he put himself at risk, the lawyer got involved after shit hit the fan

  • @ndeze BUT THERE WAS NO WIRETAP

he NEVER used the phone to TALK shop at all

he simply sent multimedia messages to his lieutenants, there's nothing illegal about that and as I said, it was all an illegal 'tap' by lester and jimmy. the only reason maury couldn't get that shit suppressed is because pearlman had dirt on him.

also you're wrong again, marlo had been using phones before. remember when he fucked that girl at the club and called her the next day to meet? it was when avon got shot

  • Avon was a street dude. He wasnt built for the corporate world.

  • Did Stringer ment 1 million every week?

  • nah hes sayin thats how much marlo had, either money to himself, or his whole supply that was out on the street

  • At the time, he was still comin up. Prob a mill total worth.Once he took over all of the West Side when he was makin heavy money and needed it to get washed from Prop Joe.

  • this scene is fucking iconic! stringer bell and marlo - fucking ace!

  • stringer was schooling marlo. marlo's strength (in this clip) lies in listening and assessing the value of stringer's speech. it's not til prop joe gives him this lesson that he's willing to accept the wisdom of these words. a poignant scene considering how things turn out.

  • im on marlo's side with this one. stringer acting all mister-wisdom n shit. and i like how they made marlo's crew out to be this half urban-half farmboy squad that was mean. so stringer just needs to carry his old ass out of the way.

  • ayo marlo look like 50.

  • supposedly on here he only 22

  • think he means the rapper sir

  • o mybad lol

  • "Now I appreciate smart...but you gotta know in this game man it aint enough."--Stringer Bell

That's truth right there about inner-city America.

  • The guy who played Marlo is actually brilliant. He had amazing restraint in this performance. By doing nothing, he did so much. He is an abyss!

  • @AdArmand it's Marlo's gaze that's so captivating.

  • marlo soaked it all up. Then he tried to take everybody out,

  • Two more things...1) did you notice that Marlo stopped driving himself after this particular scene?

    2) Marlo's crew preyed on the weak. They couldn't get Omar, hell, they feared Omar, because he wasn't weak.

  • you got a point tho cuz at first he didnt want bodie corner but after he knew bodie was there and he hooded it up they was like man we debo'n you for ya shit and thats when they killed him..

  • stringer bell was to much of a business man to be a drug dealer.

  • and that's why he got killed. he thought he could outsmart dudes in two different worlds and lost in both. clay davis screwed him over and avon screwed him over when he gave him up to brother mozoune

  • 1 hundred pct right poppa, i have this argument all the time. Stringer is like a boxer who forgets to build up his muscles, he thought he could go all corporate Marlo wasnt trying to hear that get or get got. " all this theorizing about it product over territory, u can't say that when someone takes up all the real estate and don't take none of your product" Rip Stringer u got got

  • Stringer was smart but he went about it the wrong way if he woulda done his business with Levy and payed attention to his lawyer he wouldn'tve got caught up with Davis and woulda made sure to bring his lawyer with him to make sure he wasn't getting got. He slipped in the street game because of his friendship with Avon. There is no friends in that life

  • Marlo is a cold ass nigga and his face is creepy as fuck but thats how niggas need to be in the streets other wise you get punked

  • All Marlo wanted was the "Crown". To be apart of the Co-Op and just make money was a punk move to Marlo. I bet the minute String and Joe proposed the offer to join, Marlo started working on plan to take over the Co-Op. Remember if you have the connect your the man in the streets.

  • Marlo thought it was a trap all along. He never trusted none of them considering their past.

  • Marlo is a lil too street-smart for String to be lured into his traps. String is book smart, but he ain't nearly as street smart as nigga'z like Avon and Marlo are.

  • marlo never rattled. he doesn't need an arm around his shoulder, especially not a conniving snake like stringer's.

"no one fucks with me now"

  • Marlo was some dumb fuck, him and his crew didn't last over a year, just killing people to get their way across, which drew police attention but things don't work like that. Stringer might not have been street-smart but he knew how to be organized and make money.

  • I like that fact that Marlo barely uttered a word in this scene but you still felt his rising power...

  • Marlo was an Independent who stuck to hiz own script. he ran his crew like an Army..and if he even THOUGHT someone was snitching..he had eliminated them..harsh, but effective. Barksdale Crew FELL because THE TWO BOSSES betrayed eachother..but Marlo was the H.N.I.C. of his crew. thats why in the end, he steals the CO-OP from Joe, beats the court case, sells the Connect to Slim Charles and retires 10 million richer...ultimately, he Won.

    iLL .

  • Marlo didn't win, he goes back to the corner. We don't see what happens, but you can guess that he just can't stay away from the game. The only reason Marlo got so far was because Chris wasn't telling him everything. If he had known Omar was coming at him like that, Marlo probably would've done something stupid.

Marlo and Avon are similar- they don't care about the money, they just want to be King.

  • right only stringer was about the money he tried to get that threw Avon and Marlos head but the egos were tripping

  • Good analysis!! Marlo was a gambler and a bad gambler at that. Chris balanced everything out, because he was smart & strategic.

  • lol Marlo was looking at Stringer the whole time like "what da fuck are you talking about, can we just sell drugs"

  • ha ha ha right Marlo wasnt realy trusting stringer cus hes Avons boy i would have done the same thing it could have been a set up

  • Shit, I hate marlo and chris. they go on a rampage, do whatever the fuck they want, but they got no idea how to run the show the way avon and string did. Avon, Omar prop joe, and stringer all have priciples they live by, they know the rules. But marlo? he doesnt deserve to be on top in west baltimore.

  • I agree with your opinion. You make a great point.

  • Stringer was right all along. Avon was to gangsta for his own good. Man, you have all the money in the world. Bail! Take the money, get the fuck out of the game. Invest. You set for life.

  • marlo next to stringer makes stringer look like Pee-Wee Herman.

  • look at stringer bell helpin marlo out and yall still got madd respect for stringer bell? with a dude like Stringer on ya team you be better off hangin out with the feds!

  • That's Y Ur Dumb Ass Would Make No Cash, String Ain't A Snitch He A Business Man I Would Let String Handle His Business As A #2 So He Would Never Feel The Need @ Take Me Down n' Plus By The Time We Got Movin We Would Be In Legit Enterprises Not That "Gangster" BullSh*t...

  • fuck the sopranos .. season 2 was great and the show was good until season 4 .. after that was all down hill .. the wire never got old and never got greedy .. it was brilliant all the way threw .. the only problem is that it ended .. BEST SHOW IN HBO HISTORY!! HANDS DOWN .. FUCK TONY SOPRANO .. STRINGER AND AVON ARE THE REAL BOSS'S Of HBO

  • UR Crazy The Wire Was Great All The Way Through The Sopranos Was Garbage 4 The Last 2 1/2 Seasons Including The Worst Ending $ A Epic Series In History, Take Tony's Nuts Off Ya Chin b' Wipe His Cum Out Ur Eye n' U Would See This 2 Be True...(I Ain't Need 2 Go That Hard But Fuck It.) LMAO!

  • uhh, wut? No.

  • One thing I don't get about this clip - He tells Marlo that his car shouldn't be registered in his name, but instead in somebody else's so that if the cops pinch him they won't also take all his stuff.

But then he talks about having a crib in his name (which is in fact what Stringer had in that nice waterfront loft of his).

Sounds kinda contradictory, unless I'm not getting something.

  • I think what Stringer means is a Mercedes is a bad purchase. If the feds were to come & get him he would have to prove how is able to afford such a car.See Stringer & Avon have several local businesses in their area like laundry mats, printing store & etc.Stringer has a simple car & small home.Nothing to flashy that would make them suspect anything. They make so much clean money they would never guess & all their drug money they stash away in bank accounts overseas.

  • I think Stringer's point was that you having anything in your name w/o a job WILL give you the wrong attention. If you're making money in the US and you're NOT paying taxes, you are going to JAIL!!! That was his point to Marlo. W/ the co-op, they can channel the dirty money to make it appear "clean." Make it look legit

  • I'm watchin Season 3 Episode 12 when sTringer snitches on Avon. How he gonna now talk to Marlo? Now Its plain to see all his dirt. snitchin to the cops about Avon, Talkin to marlo, takin Barksdale money and sinkin it into the Clay Davis money pit (lol) dumb muthaplucka. He did more to ruin the Barksdale Organization than Marlo could or Omar could have. He was the Judas Iscariot of the Barksdale crew.

  • You idiot, he reluctantly set up Avon to go away for like 3 or 4 years on a parole violation because he thought Avon's hothead temper and his warring ways were fucking everything up and Prop Joe & the CoOp were going to drop them from the connect for the good dope if Avon kept that shit up. He was right, as even Avon admits once Stringer's dead that "String was right. It ain't about these corners and gangster bullshit." It's about distributing that shit behind the scenes and getting rich.

  • Somebody in another post said that Avon thought that Stringer was too soft to be on the street & too dumb to be a businessman. All of that came full circle when Omar & Brother Mouzone cornered him & took him out.

  • How was Stringer Dumb??

  • stringer wasted his time here. marlo aint give a fucc bout mo money. more like mo power, mo respect

  • Marlo saw that String was weak, he wasn't mad, he just saw opportunity.

  • Cool to see that the guy playing Stringer Bell is a true Londoner! British Gangster! Idris Elba did a really impressively chilling impersonation of this character.

  • Yup, McNulty is a Brit too. Which makes their portrayal of these characters even more impressive.

  • Yes indeed! Really good stuff mate!

  • why the fuck is he wearing a headband?

  • LOL ur so retarded, god bless ur little heart
