Of all the versions I have heard, including Freddie Mercury's and the Platters' original, I kinda prefer this one. I love the gospel choir, it adds more drama :)
I'm sorry Miss DOlly, but I can't say I like your version better. I love you and your voice, but, The Platters (original singers) have you beat. I still like this version but I'd have to rank it in 3rd in the line of The Platters, Roy Orbinson, and yourself (Dolly P.). And to everyone who will make hate comments in response to this comment, please feel free to verbally bash me, because I will just ignore it and everyone is entitled to their opinion are they not?
the other version is ok... but Dolly puts the emotion into it.... you can really feel her emotions... besides having an amazing voice i love her 4 that to
This is a great song and very well delivered by Dolly, lots of deep feeling into it. The original version by The Platters, and later by Freddy Mercury also have their own weight on this song, they're just different. I could play all three and always get a different feeling depending on my state of mind. All three are hits in their own right.
This IS an excellent version; Dolly Parton is much maligned as a singer but here, as in many others, she puts great feeling and her own unique style into a classic song. One instance where phrasing a song completely differently from the original actually works and in my opinion works very well.
Her voice just blows me away on this song, and certainly blows away any other version of this song. So Powerful. What a classy, talented lady.. Love You Dolly.
Freddie's better....

Freddie's version is by far the best. The original with the Platters is fantastic obviously, but Freddie killed it.
This version sounds like something to include in a funeral.

bro you can't compare any singer with Freddie Mercury, all these other singers can only sing one type of music.
Ratamajata69 2 years ago
I agree...They are all great singers, but you can compare Freddie to noe-one...There can be only one!
martom1982 1 year ago
@Ratamajata69 no way. I absolutely love Freddie but he isn't vulnerable enough in his version. Sam Cooke's is the best.
