i also live near the bottom of bardon..i go biking up there...btw its not me on the film..lol...it is lovely up there...ive even snowboarded on the windlips when we have enough snow...
Looks really good, fair play going up there and filming, many people will never see. I work in bardon quarry and was intrested too see how it looks from above, Have you got any film of the quarry doing any blows!! Also how do u get there is it by the bp station or down by bardon island?? by the church.. Thanks
Footpath off A511 starts at layby-north side of road between church and petrol station(s)@ coptoak road. Waymarkers/common sense lead you the right way!- a pleasant country stroll-not too steep, might be muddy in winter. Once across the plant road there are steps and tracks up through moorland to the transmitter, then carry on about 30m toward the quarry-
you wont realise how near to the edge you are until you get to the fence.
Never seen blasting. The plant looks like tonka toys in a sandpit.
Theres also a really good footpath that starts in the housing estate off greenhill rd. Its hard to find, but the comms companies use it to get there 4x4's up to the top so its the easiest way up.
you're right. Bardon hil is the highest point in leicestershire. I live next to it!! Its 996 ft ansl, thats four feet off being an official mountain. I can see the summit from my window right now.
Sorry to be a pedant, but the summit of Bardon Hill, is 912 feet above sea level. Check this out with the OS map, where the height is shown as 278 metres. However, I still regard it as a mountain. I reached the summit in low cloud and a covering of snow on 10 February 2007. A spectacular climb. Hope to meet up with you some time. CO
Oh well- its nearly a mountain! Im just trying to remember where I got 996ft from? Oh well I probably just made it up haha. Its a good hill. I can crack the top in 20 mins if I get a pace on. Its got to be the best view in the world up there I love it. Makes the climb worth it.
I was on Beacon Hill yesterday, with that modest covering of snow. There was enogh snow for a snow man and a small snowball fight.A few snaps were taken. It was well worth it just for the views and there was a reasonable crowd of visitors too.
You can see the Huge Stobart Warehouse at 1:00. Its huge inside!
Stobart distributes 75% of Nestle UK's deliveries from their!
