I'd imagine your thumb is getting mighty warm there, also, be careful doing that reload, you can easily warp the feed lips of the magazine, as well as cause the follower to do a nose dive. I personally grab the next magazine, hit the magazine release with my thumb, then stick the next magazine in, rack, then back into the fight.
just curious....why dont you shoot the ak with the same style as the m4? is there better control doing it this way or is the barrel shorter or something?
ok I've done some time in the service and I've see two of your vids and i can see you've had more training in shooting them me but what about the elbow there man. isn't that still bad posture. just curious. Not trying to cause tension or a fight just curiouis.
reducing fulcrum points for the muzzle to rise by keeping the arm parallel to the bore. elbow is placed outward so when drawing the rifle into the shoulder pocket the line of pull is straight back, while with the elbow downward when influencing the gun has a tendency for pulling low and left. for me it also allows my hand to roll higher on the gun.
check out my favorites, i have a video of Jason Falla giving his own quick explanation of the whole elbow thing
@MichaelBarnes thanks its just new i guess, I've been out of the army for a few years now and never seen that. i just asked my sf buddy and he told me its a normal stance a lot use it. but thanks ill check them out.
@xLowLightx I never did buy off with keeping the elbow tucked. They used to tell us we would get it shot off.
Try both styles cornering. With the elbow down you will expose more of your body.
Rather take a hit in the elbow then in the face. It also is more controlable for me with the elbow up. Good hits on target cut down the chance of the target getting good hits on you.
@BearClawAK47 If you expose too much of your body cornering, that's just a flaw of technique. I can't see how elbow location would make your torso any larger a target.
also, isn't it faster to continue shooting by not shooting the last bullet in the clip? i mean, if you have for example 5 bullets in the clip, then after firing 4 of them, the fifth is in the gun. so if you change the clip at this moment, then you don't have to make the reload movement at all (which would take a lot of time), because one of the bullets is already waiting in the gun.
of course counting bullets is difficult in the middle of the shooting..
good videos! btw is that the right way to check if you're out of ammo in the end? you're still having your clip in the gun. shouldn't you reload the gun that you assume empty WITHOUT the clip to make sure? at least that's what i've been taught in the army. out of ammo --> remove the clip --> reload without the clip --> pull the trigger
I'm an admirer of your vids. Is that a 7.62x39? Or a .308 variety? I feel like my 7.62x39 doesn't recoil quite as much. Maybe that's exactly how it looks when I shoot it, though.
one of the many problems with ak type platforms is that the sharp edges on the gun are notorious for cutting you, as you can tell from michael barnes' finger
at 0:14 you racked a round in chamber reaching under the weapon, at 0:27 you went overhand. Which way do you normally manipulate the weapon? I like to go over the weapon, canting the rifle like how you would with the AR to have a clear view checking possible malfunction or stoppages.
Is this what you do for a living? Would like to know more about the style of shooting you use never seen anyone grip their rifle like that, i want to shoot like that, is their a training video you put out?
Using the buttplate instead of the top portion of the mag is something to think about. The "lip" on the mag can get damaged if hit enough, especially with plastic mags. Great vid - they always look so bad ass.
@FatalTracerBurn Ah the ol' tactical reload of the AK variant. We were constantly instructed to not do it in the Finnish Army, mainly because many would fail reloading even more if attempting this, but I still applied it always. I did however do it differently, by using my trigger finger to push on the magazine release and then just flip the mag gently off and insert a new one in, thus not damaging the magazine like you mentioned.
@MichaelBarnes Had I never grabbed a hot M240B barrel on accident while under stress I would agree with you, but I've been there and I know better. Train as you fight.
guy got serious burns up and down his arm rocking a water cooled 30cal against charging imperial troops, seems pretty good to me. i know in FOF i don't have a problem get my hand cut to shreds grabbing a guy's slide if it means i don't have to worry about any more sims coming my way. adrenaline and someone's will to live outweigh or make personal comfort a nonissue
@MichaelBarnes I know what adrenaline does because I've carried a gun for a living. What I'm telling you is that you're doing something that you KNOW can hurt you and distract you from the task at hand. Basilone did what he did because he had no other option to save himself and his buddies. You have options. You can be stubborn but at the end of the day you are still training in a way that creates unnecessary risk of injury and distraction to yourself with little if any benefit.
in training when it gets hot i move my thumb, in a critical stress situation if i default to my thumb on the gas block after dumping three magazines and i'm not noticing heat transfer then awesome- i don't mind the increased recoil mitigation.
You are bad shooter because you doing elementary mistake when you work with this rifle
