  • I love Clara!!

  • this lady reminds me of my great grandma. also watching this makes me very hungry hahahah :D

  • I'm so hungry, that meal looks great!

  • She is absolutely adorable. I love her recipes, simple and yummy! God bless xo

  • Incredibly healthy meals.

  • I turned on the CC at about the 7:15 mark and was giggling, then shocked by the end.

The inaccuracy of YT CC makes it so much better.

  • 25 people hate there grandmothers

  • awww, she is ADORABLE!! Bless you!!

  • i thank you for all you have been through. us children don't appreciate meals like you did. have an amazing life you deserve nothing but that

  • So sweet of you all to take the time and prepare these for all of us. Thank you and God Bless :x

  • She is such a cutie pie!

  • Clara you are awesome!!!! do you have these recipe's available for download?

  • Clare you are one sweet lady, Thank You for your depression meal :)

  • why are there 25 dislikes? are those people completely without natural love for humans or what?

  • great meal; I am want to try the lentil and rice thing; for some reason I've never thought of that; this made me think of when I was younger; we didn't have much money so we would walk around the block and pick up the onions that fell of the onion trucks and the fry them up with potatoes and meat we got free from the neighbor butcher (not the best cuts, but good!); we would huddle around the stove too lol or we had a little space heater we would huddle around

  • we need to learn more from the older generations .

  • @HerbSmoulder not really the depressions over, aparently no one told this lady

  • @BananaSandwich1 The way things are going, it's good knowledge to have.

  • @BananaSandwich1 in case you didnt notise were in the middle of another depression with millions out of work.

  • This is one of the most captivating pages on YouTube. Love it. Thank you so much Clara.

  • Clara I'm like you, I measure things in coffee cups and just throw in a handful of whatever spices. I pour water in straight from the tap and just check on it and add more of whatever if it doesn't look right. LOL. I love your reminisices, what a bunch of cheerful, courageous woman were Americans back then!

  • OMG tears come out of my eyes, this reminds me of my grandma, she passed away a few months ago and she used to cook lentils and rice just like this. She always wanted us to be strong and healthy. I miss her so much! Thanks for introducing Clara to all of us!

  • cross contamination...pshh, that didn't even exist then.

  • i like this video. i made a video about the great all american hotdog but i dont think its as good as this video : )

  • we need more people in the world like clara!!!

  • I love Clara! We are going to try this recipe. I'm already down for the lentils/rice...legumes and rice, rice and chicken, beans and ham, beens and bacon, beans and pork, beans and burger, I grew up on all that stuff. But I think the lemon juice and meat looks good...I imagine the lemon juice "cooks" whatever is left in it and if it's not left out for an hour or two, I'm not worried about it. I think you take a bigger chance eating at Jack in the Box....

  • God bless YOU, Clara! I love your series! :)

  • I love old people!!! I used to love to listen to my nana's stories about the old days when I was a kid. I wish she was still here, I'd deffinately love more stories!!

  • yes in mongolia and many other countries if you had meat and couldn't cook it they would cut it in thin strips and let it sit in pure lemon juice for a long time then eat it as is. I wouldnt; try it but mother always used lemon to clean off her cutting boards because it's better than soap altho she used both

  • Cross contamination? Oh please.... stop it.... I would never be afraid to eat anything from this wonderful lady's kitchen!

  • @snowmountain2007 I agree with you! She's lived and looks great! So cross contamination can ... well you know

  • Clara is such an awesome Grandma!

    bless her heart -3

  • Learn to spell soul

  • they ate pretty good for the depression. I can only afford ramen noodle :(

  • Fantastic!

  • i wish she was my gramma,i love watching her cook and hearing all her storys.:)

  • That is some delicious cooking, I'm going to try that.

  • What a great sole..so simple. Modest but should be s pproud. It's inspiring to hear the stories about Clara's family and how they did they made the most of what they had.

  • I bet your children and grandchildren are proud. :)

  • wow! amazing for her age

  • Great depression food was better than a lot of the crap America is eating today. And this woman is so cute :)

  • Know what I just realized? I have a constant smile on my face...the entire time I'm watching one of her videos!

  • She is just to darn cute!

  • That's what you'll have to learn to do after the elite who run this country bankrupt it and try to control you like slaves.

  • I've searched to no avail on how to make yarn flowers like my grandma used to make. She used a piece of cardboard and looped them somehow. Would you possibly know? When she was through they looked like roses. Nothing on line is what she did. Also, Ive watched your videos and truly enjoyed them. God Bless

  • @DeizelMassacre so bad you might live to to be a spry 94 year old

  • This concludes her You Tube series? Sad, but I'll keep watching what she has here. Clara is a sweetheart. I'm glad she shared her recipes and stories with us. Clara, you are lovely.

  • Luv ya Miss Clara, you remind me of my Gran...without he 'Fire'. The younger generation has no idea how many of today's "Cleaner's & Natural Washes' put in their bottles actually came from food, tree, flower and plant. We just aren't paying the middle man & Wall Street haha.

  • she is just the sweetest lady ever and i wish she was my great grandmother :O she seems to just make my day brighter by bringing a smile to my face with her stories :D god bless you Clara.

  • Hahaha, at 6:38, the caption says "use a new uncontaminated lemon, while Clara says "we use the lemon from before for the salad." XD

  • Not trying to be rude, but is she still alive because I love her video's!

  • @pyroyeal i want to know the same. she's so cute and her recipes are good too. we want Clara back =(

  • I just LOVE these wonderful recipes, Claire!! And my hubby sure loves the meals!! And my friends do, too!! Please keep them coming...and how about writing a cookbook? In these tough times, young people need CHEAP ideas for making REALLY good meals as we don't have much to spend! Plus these meals are SO good....!!!!

  • What a precious old lady, she is so adorable.

  • even though the stock market crashed... they knew how to keep themselves happy and healthy :D

  • i love your stories it reminds me when the heater didnt work and me and my brothers would sit around the stoves when we woke up after mum made us bread and wed tell each other stories

  • 24 people?!?!?! idiots! this awesome

  • SIMPLICITY..MADE WITH LOVE

  • you know its crazy! She is saying that that cup of rice is enough to feed an army. Now a days thats one person's serving. And that meal probably can feed a whole family. We need to go back to NORMAL sized servings.

  • Oh! <3 I want her to be my grandma.

  • this woman makes me feel better wen im hung over haha :)

  • Cutest chef of the year award goes to her!

  • I'm SO hungry NOW !

  • i love this woman.

  • i want this woman

  • I love her...my grandma would be 95 this year--oh how wonderful it would have been if she had lived and been as sharp as Clara.

  • im sad because of the great depression T__T

  • Definitely see why she made it to 94. Very healthy stuff there with the lentils, lean meat, olive oil and salad greens.

  • 22 people are sick

  • clara's videos make me feel light and airy, with a spring in my step! :D

  • 21 dislikers got sticks up day butts respect the lady

  • This is no Poorman's feast.

This is a 5 star meal... HELL YEAH!!!

  • For some reason, I like to eat foods of lower quality that has a history, rather than 4 star foods just for money.

  • I love this woman.

  • Clara, people think that you need a lot to eat well, this is an example of something that is so good no amount of money can make it any better. I would almost swear that if you made that salad and Clara didn't mix it, it would never taste the same, lol. I miss my parents a lot, but Clara help to fill in the bits that I miss.

  • that looks so yummy yo!

  • My mother was given a hot potato to take to school so she would have it to warm her hands on the walk, and for something to eat for lunch.

  • @OurFadedGarden

    Mine did too!

  • She rocks! Love it.

  • I had a Depression meal. My cat just died and i cried in my fish soup.

  • This is a really great idea, Chris. Nice one

  • I want to give this woman the biggest hug in the world, she's so cute.

  • @ashleyanne007 She sure as well deserves it.

  • she's soooo sweeeeet ><

  • This is why I love YouTube...thank you Clara.

  • Very good lady.. :)

  • Clara, Thanks for sharing your wisdom with this generation. You're the best!

  • Many of the recipes in your collection were cooked by my mother. Most were very simple, used items that could be grown in our garden but most important were delicious.

Thanks so much for these videos. They remind me of my childhood and the great times we had working the garden, canning, and sitting around the dinner table eating these simple but delicious dishes.

    God Bless you and yours......

  • thank you for sharing

  • I imagine that back in the day, there were fewer pathogens, and most people who survived long were hardy enough to handle some stray bacteria.

Of course, you could always cook the lemon and oil WITH the meat, and it'd probably be pretty good. People underestimate how good a roast lemon can taste.

  • I LOVE your video's and I'm so glad I came accross them :) :) :) I'm trying the poorman's feast tonight! Thank you for sharing your memories and these recipes, God bless!

  • She should be on national television!

  • Thank you so much for this video. Love you Ms. Clara.

I'm going to try your dandelion salad recipe. my Mom used to eat them as a child and told me about it, I've never knew before this video how they were prepared. Thank you.

  • I don't know how anyone could flag this video as dislike other than you are a complete idiot and probably spoiled beyond imagination. For shame....

  • What an amazing lady - she will live in history now.

  • That was great. In these times, my family is in their own Depression, but we make due, have each other, never go hungry, and have a roof over our head. Still, we have it better than a lot of folks.

  • haha keepin' it real Clara! No bugs in the rice. She reminds me of my granny!

  • I love cooking with lentils. It's sweet to hear her telling about going to her aunt's house for stories. It puts things in perspective. Good cheap entertainment. Kind of like instead of going to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on opening night, I'll save up for it and read the book again while I wait instead.

  • God bless you Grandma!

  • What a sweet lady.

  • It is strange how meals of necessity have become meals of choice or even 'comfort foods'.

  • My youngest son is 2 and his favorite food is lintals with pasta. Thank you for sharing.

  • clara u r great keep the vids coming!. :)

  • This is wonderful. I know this as comfort food. Making something from nothing had to be the rule. God bless Clara.

  • This is the first I've seen of Ms. Clara and I can say she is precious. I love listening to previous generation's experiences. We could all learn a TON from people from her generation. You go girl...teach today's youth that being grounded and not getting every video game are not "problems"...not knowing what you're going to eat tonight IS a problem.

  • You're gorgeous :)

It warmed my heart to watch you.

  • yay!!!!!

  • THE greatest generation, I'm 25 and know that my peers will never understand the history involved here.

  • WONDERFUL! May God bless you!

  • IS Clara still alive? I hope so!!

  • Clara, you remind me so much of my late great Grandmother. She was so sweet and WOW! What a cook. She took so many of her recipes to her Grave, I was glad to find these Videos. I am going to go pick up your book this afternoon. Last Night's Supper was your Taters & Hot Dogs. It was Great.

  • Clara,Ilove you.....

  • damn, i'm hungry....

  • i eat worse food than this..so i WISH i could have this :P

  • @TheUltimateZeldaGurl If this is so-called poor mans food I am with you, I would rather live in the 30s during the Great Depression than today's society with Americans always on the run, eating left overs for dinner and McDonald's for lunch I would eat Mrs. Clara's food with a big smile on my face.

  • So enjoyable.... We are so spoiled in today's times, we need reminders to show us how hard life has been for others in the past. Thank you, Clara. Looks delicious by the way.

  • clara, thank you so much for making all these videos and showing everyone out there how to make the most of what they have.

  • Clara.. YOU are Home! To my Family WE I LOVE YOU... Theresa

  • That's the heart and soul of the USA, God bless you Ms. Clara for keeping this tradition alive and sharing with the world.

  • i can't help but tear up when i watch your videos, I'm 18 and a mother of a 3year old, i wish i can raise him to be as humble as you are. We are too spoiled and ungrateful these days. The world needs many of you!! You really made me think, I'll be changing the way i do things for sure from now on. God bless you Clara! Your food looks so delicious!!!

  • This lady is awesome! if anyone has a problem with the cross-contamination...to them I say "give me a break"! every second person in the US eat their meat rare of medium rare..that is same as eating the meat RAW cuz all the meat juice is there too! Its like saying I wanna use anti bacterial spray on my counters..but u won't wash hands after using bathroom! that is so hypocritical!!!

  • I love this! You remind me of my grandmother so much! She wouild cook and tell us stories about the Depression and would cook us meals from then!!! Thank you so much for sharing! Many blessings from my house to you!!!!

  • thats it, im subing! these videos are just too cool. thanks for sharing.

  • very interesting looks delicious with the way our economy is this kind of meal it would really help provide my family with a healthy meal in tough times thanks Clara
