Are you still diggin' your mini Antiquities? I'm thinking of getting one on the neck on my LP Studio Tribute, the original Gibson is just way too muddy and boomy. But maybe I should get one for the bridge too, the overdriven sounds are okay but cleans not so great. How do you like the Antiquity on the bridge?
@SidHenderson@SidHenderson hi,yes i dig still dig em.i like the neck and in between postions a tad more(i usually dont like bridge pus at all).mini hums are better for cleans and p90 better for drive but first of all if your gibson is muddy change the potvalues first because almost all gibsons use 300k pots since the the mid 70th.a new gibson will sound much brighter and better with 500k pots.if you want the minisound go for it but if your just looking for a more open sound change the pots.
@rosetaylorgear Thanks for a quick answer! Do you mean the vol or tone pots? According to Gibson website the values are "300k Linear Volume, 500k Non-linear Tone".
@SidHenderson vol pots should be 500 or above.the tone pots dont matter that much for general brighter tone.but you could get the best interaction if you go for a matched set of 4 cts replicas with vintage tapper(that what they call it here dont know if the word vintagetapper is used in the u.s.)technical they have a smooth long way and you could use them for details tweaking.
@rosetaylorgear Okay, I used to have just my old Strat for years which is just perfect and I didn't need to think any of this stuff, but looks like I'll have to do some experimenting with my new guitars. Thanks again!
@SidHenderson me too,you can go with a stock strat but they usaully have the right pots and wiring.4 pot and the so called 50th wiring will take your gibson to another planet.you can have a 100 of sound with good pots and vintage wiring there are so many ways to dial in.this is not good for metal or other heavy distortionsounds (maybe gibson changed to 300 for that reason),but for the rest it works perfekt and cost will be way under 100 bucks.
hi,size is the same as the stock p90s and they fir without any routings.the only difference is the screws.on p90 more in the middle of the pickup and on the minis more outside.you can fix that with a piece of metal there is a video here on youtube that shows the steps how to do it.in the meanwhile i replaced the bridge pickup too.the wiring was changed to a 50th wiring and i replaced the 300ohm pots to 500 ohms.replaced the caps to ornge drops.best minis are antiquitys, lollars and new gibsons.
i have 60's pat applied mini's would they work as well any idea where that video is on youtube the one you mentioned in your last post can you also list in detail what you have done to date on this guitar ive heard harmonic design pickups are good as well do you know anything about that brand also thankyou for your reply ;-)
hi the videos are from lollar.just type in "installing mini humbucker".the 60th pat pickups will sure work well.maybe the bridge is a litlle too weak but depends on what style youre playing.all pots are 500 ohm now and the pickups are seymour duncan antiquity bridge and neck.í´ve heard of h.d. pickups but never tryed their minis.
