@quinnmyster 80000:1 is very, VERY low now, a name brand LCD (like Sony or Sharp) will have like a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, keep in mind this is from 2007. Besides the spec sheet isn't everything, my Aquos from 2005 can still hold its own.

i have a problem with my hd lcd tv ive bought about 1 year ago ... the thing is i play my xbox 360 on it ... and when i go on xbox it shows my name and gamertag and pictue of my avatar in the right top corner .. 4 example it says like blackfist 2467 and a number for how many friends are online and messaged i have ... now this all this information kinda burned itself into my screen and i can see the out lines of it when i watch movies or play games now , even if the xbox is turned off .. pls help

your plasma has a problem then mate, either watch moving screen content for a bit, or exchange it with a recepit cus your panel may be faulty, i have never run my panasonic plasma in, and i use the normal prest, oh and dont use dynamic, try and use the natural presets, they will be called something like standard, normal etc, if you dont want to change picture settings, otherwise go on to cinema or move mode and put everything to 50 percent. should run in and not get burnt in, burn in is rare btw

that is the thing , its not even a plasma but a lcd .. i thought on lcd-tv nothing can happen , but i was wrong .. but yea to not put it on dynamic and to put everything n 50 % is a good tip i didnt even think of that ... also somebody told me that the pixels maybe are frozen , and i should turn my tv off a few days then turn it back on , and put it on that grey channel for a few minutes , you know the 1 that lookes like millions of ants moving around lol ... sry cant explain any other way lol

Woah man in my days of tv calibration I have had very very VERY rare cases of lcd burn in, It happens when the tv is faulty, if I was you take it back bud and change it to either a different model, Or just change the one you got, What company is it by the way? I have heard of this problem with samsung (worst company for lcd imo and im a tv tech, they are bright as fuck and a pain in the ass to calibrate) Samsung is losing the game quickly, Panasonic is the new master in Tvs.

Mate im not gonna lie, your lcd is fucked put simply, you can either pay money to get it repaired, which is nearly as much as a new tv in some cases, and if your panel is messed and they have to take aprt the tv and put a new panel in, they will charge you the same what you payed for the tv because your paying for the panel, get what i mean? if i was you take it in and try and bargian or put up with it and save up for a better tv.

It depends... 1000:1 normally is a Contrast Ratio (True)... And 8000:1 is a Contrast Ratio (Dynamic).

Basically, there two different ways to test the contrast ratio on the TV... So... Make sure your matching the same ratios on TV's... The higher the contrast ratio the better, and the lower the ms is better... However... 5ms is normally low enough.

actually i would like to point out (after much searching for a nice tv) that i have read MANY reviews saying you actually can go wrong with samsung's. (i dont know if their larger TV's are done this way) but their smaller tvs are. (i have actually witnessed this for I bought one and returned it, hence im still looking)

they do what is called a "bait and switch" look up samsung bait and switch on google and you will get a lot of reviews explaining what it is and how you can go wrong!
