Well, it's a generalization, but also an observation, My family is regularly harassed by the police. I have acquaintances who have watched their family beaten to death in front of them by the police. I can't just ignore that.

@ariamne1 If some one breaks into my house I dial .357, I have never, repeat never needed a police officer, if you rely on them when your home is broken into you will become a victim, they will show up after the perp is gone to make a report, yes it is true that there are some good cops but they are vastly outnumbered by the bad ones.
@Trekfreek If you have never met a bad cop than odds are you have net less than 2. If you have met say 3, then on average 2.64 of them would be "bad" or corrupt. Seriously most people given any modicum of power will misuse it whenever possible. Bad cops are the norm not the exception.

I am capable of defending myself and not so naive as to believe that a Cop would be there to protect me if needed. 98% of the time the cops come to make a report after the crime is committed and play a much bigger role in attempting to catch the perpetrator than they do in any type of prevention. By the time the cops respond to your call you are already a victim. I have faith in God, not in an orginiztion of people who are equally damaged as I.
@419dman I know from experience it is easier to blame a person who is only doing his job then to face up to your responsibility. Fortunately I learned it through traffic tickets, not because I stole something or hurt someone. The law is there to protect people. Did you know that the number of deaths caused by cars have decreased radically thanks to the enforcement of speed limit laws? Cops are supposed to be hard nose, & question everything. It is there job to weed out the law breakers.

@419dman The media jumped on that story before all the facts were in The man was murdered but not by the cops, he was poisoned before the cops even arrived at the scene. The poison was the cause of his over violent behavior but the cops had no way of knowing that. The coroner's final report makes it clear that the pepper spray was not the cause of the man's death, nor was he beaten to death. Get all the facts before you report something...
@419dman Let's say for the sake of argument a man is killed by being pepper sprayed; what would cause him to be killed by that? Thousands of cops are peppered sprayed a day with no after effects. So what could kill a man in a pepper spray bottle, the pepper? Yes, if he has a lethal allergy to it, but only 1 person in 1,000,000 has that kind of allergy to that particular pepper. So if it was the pepper spray that killed him, how could the cops know that that man was that 1 in 1,000,000?

You know, a few blocks from the house where I grew up, a black man was arrested, handcuffed, laid face down on the ground, and shot in the back by police. To palm this kind of systematic abuse off as helpless mistakes is just delusional.
I've spoken with police, tried to reason with them. I have found them to be universally paranoid and hysterical and duplicitous. These people are not public servants, they are hired thugs, and deserve as much respect as any other gangster.

Well, it's a generalization, but also an observation, My family is regularly harassed by the police. I have acquaintances who have watched their family beaten to death in front of them by the police. I can't just ignore that.
I know that cops, being human beings, are complex, and even the worst cop isn't bad through and through. But in uniform, on duty, yeah they behave in a thuggish fashion. They have to, in order to uphold the illusion that they have authority.

I am capable of defending myself and not so naive as to believe that a Cop would be there to protect me if needed. 98% of the time the cops come to make a report after the crime is committed and play a much bigger role in attempting to catch the perpetrator than they do in any type of prevention. Fortunately I learned it through traffic tickets, not because I stole something or hurt someone. The law is there to protect people. Did you know that the number of deaths caused by cars have decreased radically thanks to the enforcement of speed limit laws? Cops are supposed to be hard nose, & question everything. It is there job to weed out the law breakers.

The poison was the cause of his over violent behavior but the cops had no way of knowing that. So what could kill a man in a pepper spray bottle, the pepper? Yes, if he has a lethal allergy to it, but only 1 person in 1,000,000 has that kind of allergy to that particular pepper. So if it was the pepper spray that killed him, how could the cops know that that man was that 1 in 1,000,000?

How often does this kind of thing even happen, a cop mistaking someone who's having trouble getting into his OWN house for a burglar? The cop USED POOR JUDGMENT! He should've let things play out for a few minutes to SEE if the guy was a burglar (which of course he was not). He acted prematurely. Gates handled the situation too lightly. I disagree. The president is not particularly accomplished. His work as a community organizer didn't produce any lasting accomplishment. His one year as an editor at Business International was so embellished in "Dreams of My Father" that even before the election colleagues of his down the hall were calling it fantasy. Don't know about you but this is a guy I wouldn't want to count on when a project deadline is coming. Arrogant jackass is what we call them at work.
