0:53 is the situation where the only thing you can do is hope to goddamn hell that the sparks don't penetrate the fuel tanks...that happens, and you get a rather messy smear on the runway as an epitaph.
@BluTrollPro thats what the air force's landing procedure for hostile conditions at the end of the runway. but i have to admit it was performed pretty badly as a demo!
@rcsupercubbuilder LOL.... you guys.... and BTroll, when your nosegear doesn't lock DOWN & GREEN, there's not much you can do about it except hold it up as long as you can with full back-stick and let 'er slide out..... touching down nosegear-first is called "wheelbarrowing" and is HIGHLY discouraged in EVERY nosegear aircraft! ""I had a sudden tailwind-gust!" is the std. excuse....here, there's NO excuse for not flaring CORRECTLY!
@BluTrollPro yeah, you're RIGHT- but they were Europeans flying a Eurobuilt C-27 transport.... PILOT ERROR! Time to throw the anchor-weight out the cockpit window!
@BluTrollPro it's called a tactical landing, they come in steep and fast to avoid ground fire. they pull up at the last second. If the pilot misjudges (as clearly happened) the results can be "bad". I got to experience this flying into LSA Anaconda in the back of a C-130. Felt like I was going to slide all the way to the front of the plane.
@de0ndre It's a Su-30 model, which means it has thrust vectoring and a thrust-weight ratio of >1. Which means in theory it could hover, it was all controlled. Just search SU-30 Kobra maneouvre or 3d thrust vectoring.
I just did that in flight simulator 2004, it counted it as a crash even thought I was right in between the pillars, then I tried it in flight simulator 10 and I got a 737 through it!!!
That airplane wrecking the helo is not a Mustang, I think. The landing gear is all wrong, wheels on the outside of the struts and looks like they retract aft and twist like a P-40. The underside of the nose is boxy and I would swear that it has a turbo prop for an engine. I haven't found a picture of this thing as yet.
No, I agree. Has the look of one of those weird 3/4 scale 'kit-warbirds' or something. NO idea what it's supposed to be. Also that guy doesn't know you need wingwalkers when you taxi taildraggers airshow - tight. DOH!
lol see the one at 3:32 when the plane tries to take off an Aircraft carrier and the wave comes and just fucks it all up haha thats just fucked up lucky right there....
It's just REAL hard to time the plane-goes-off-the-Bow moment EXACTLY to the Bow-is-high-up-on-a-wave moment. And the US Navy flies as ordered- NO MATTER WHAT! But I'd still say if any fault, it was the catapult guy's. His job to time the cat-shot launch RIGHT.
not really i saw that happened with a hawkeye in front of work it wasnt the nose but the starboard main landing gear that collapsed the results werent pretty
Well thx, but I don't think that's a Spit cutting off that helo's tail... check the squared-off (not oval) wingtips and the position of the under-nose oil cooler. Can anybody here positively ID that type AC for us? Or give further info on that occurrence?
Hmmm.. the oil cooler's in the right place, right under the spinner. But I still can't really tell for SURE. So- I'll go with it being a P-51 until anybody PROVES DIFFERENT! Look at that loong nose and wicked front profile! Are the landing gear & their doors right for a Mustang? (flipping thru photos..)
Agree. I think its a P-51 the fueslage is pretty much the same shape and the wings look about the same. I wouldn't bet too much on it, but I think it is a mustang.
It appears to me as if the gears on the mig just lifted early, I see nothing hit the engine and if it was caused by a bird no pilot should lift the gears that soon he didn't even have the wheels more than an inch off the ground.
Great question! I think he was taking off and the catapult-officer judged the carrier's bow-pitching a bit wrongly - and if you look closely, you'll see he flew THROUGH that wave- and away unharmed!
Ginger you're full of shit. The MiG that crashed in the beginning of the video had his gear handle up before lifting off the runway. As he gained airspeed (and lift), the gear began to retract. He didn't have enough lift to takeoff, but enough to take the pressure off the gear locking mechanism. Which is why he skidded on the runway. So in short, pineappleboy1 is right. You're either a liar or have been lied to by your boyfriend.
su37? might be a flanker, but not a su37 model. looks more like a mig29 fulcrum (no conards). but check it, i swear i can see his gear RETRACTING just after touchdown. they didn't break off. they rose under power! wtfs!?
if you watch it closely you will see he landed on the front wheel and it collapsed, i was there at R.A.F. Fairford, R.I.A.T.
