  • if i ever get married i'm gonna have this song played and being dancing with my wife...in the mean time i'll listen to it and play borderlands

  • i love this.it always makes me smile.but "this night"......all faith is lost.x

  • you mean you do not own the rights to this song the album or the picture.

  • @mission2marsden: Any chance related to Gerry Marsden?,"gerry and the Pacemakers"?

  • "Yeah, yeah, yeah", everybody says, "he ripped off Beethoven!", including my piano teacher, and I tell 'em that I don't remember Ludwig ever singing it ". What he conveys in this song with his powerful crooning ability is the old fifties feeling of the last dance number in the high school gym and the iceing on the cake is when the big "change" comes towards the end, goes boldly where no man has gone before and literally blasts it "vocally", and not on Ludwig's "Boesendorfer", which not a sausage

  • totally ripped beethoven off

  • @nutmeg4808 He didn't rip off Beethoven.....he credits Beethoven on the album sleeve notes..He never hid the fact that he borrowed Beethoven for the chorus.

  • now this is a song to hold a woman to. of course you both should be lavishly dressed underneath sparkling lights of one kind or another. one of my countless regrets is not swaying an old girlfriend to this song when we were together, as we are both huge Joel lovers. but seriously, for me it's a woman, but holding anyone close to you to this tune is a must do before your dead.

  • ha, this has some special memories, walking along a moonlit beach road with a girl I met on holiday. She asked if I could sing any songs, this was the one song I used to sing in the shower, so I sang it to her and woke a few people up in nearby hotels :) she and I had a whirl wind romance thereafter, one that changed things forever :) a brilliant song, still makes me smile

  • The song hasn't aged well, and yet the second verse is still a killer. Love the doo wop harmonies.

  • This is one badass song!!! I swear to god I will track down and bring down hell fire upon ANYONE who dares to press that dislike button, just try me!!!

  • This is my favourite Billy Joel song!

  • I've been trying to teach myself Pathetique 2nd Movement... After about 5 minutes of practicing, I thought "Hey, this sounds familiar". Sure enough, look at who cowrote this song. ;-)

  • Probably the best song to play on New Year's Eve

  • everyone has a song, why did i have to pick this one!!!!

  • I love this song, and I think this is one of his best albums...

  • wow.. incredible... beethoven's pathetique....

  • damn! wish I could turn back time...

  • This is Beethoven piece! Billy Joel stole it off him!!!

  • the chorus is an exact copy of chopins pathetique mov. 2 Billy Joel sure likes Chopin. Its a great tribute that shows were he comes from.

  • @hemicuda572

    It's Beethoven's pathetique, not Chopin's.

  • @hemicuda572

    It´s actually Beethoven, not Chopin.

  • @hemicuda572 wasn't it beethoven?

  • This is my and my girlfriend's theme song :)

Pathetique 2nd Movement... Beethoven would be proud.

  • @RedOctoberist Had Beethoven written this instead, he might have better luck with the ladies! Billy has no problem with that.

  • @mrpankau His girlfriends would say, "Ludvig, are you even listening to me?"

  • This was our first song at our wedding recption

  • Sing it Bill! :) ♪♫♪♫

  • sing me too sleep! pleeeeaaase!!!!

  • the ultimate shiver song!

  • The best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • a lesson learnt! we should have stuck at being friends! falling in love clearly was the worst thing i could have done but i did and then married him. 3rd wedding anniversary today and he didn't even remember that, let alone anything else! whilst this night is lasting forever its because i am alone yet again!!

  • This was our first song at our wedding 26 years ago

  • God I love this song! x

  • この曲大好き^^

  • my favourite song of all time. It just has everything.... storybook, great build up, middle and end, a truly great piece..

  • 昔よく聞いた この空気感がたまりません

  • 空気感をグルーヴ感と読み替えるともっとウキウキするですよ♪

  • I must give him props for an original and interesting Beethoven quotation. Neat song.

  • Beethoven quotation?

  • The chorus is set to Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata and Billy credits him for that on the sleeve notes for the An Innocent Man album.

  • @Wain13001 what isthe Quote?

  • OMG I l,ove this song, I love all of his music, I love Billy Joel. I want to mrry him (LOL) he is just the best!

  • My wedding song.

Long live billy, but c'mon, we need some NEW MUSIC!

  • Who? Who's celebrating?

  • Me! *chuckle* I'm going to celebrate!

  • @mullethead201 i can celebrate billy joels music for HOURS... he is great!!

  • He's my favorite singer, too. And he'll be 60 on saturday.

  • I know! And guess who's celebrating? :)

  • @mission2marsden Uh... he is?

  • Probably my favorite Billy Joel song...with Innocent Man running a close second. Thanks for posting.

  • The only song from Billy Joels first 10 Albums where he didn't write the lyrics and music. While he wrote the lyrics, the chorus music comes form Ludwig Van's sonate #8 Pathetique, 2nd movement

  • Thank you! I have been trying to figure out what the original was.

  • Beautiful music, lyrics, and voice from my favorite singer of all time. Thanks for posting it!

  • from what album is this song..its great. billy joel is my fave singer. like it soo much

  • It's off the album, "An Innocent Man".

He's my favorite singer too! ^^

  • thanks to you mission2marsden,

the first time i heard this night i fell in love with it.

i didnt know it is part of an innocent man album,

i just bought the double cd of billy joels greatest hits..all the songs are good.

for me billy joel is a real artist with a profound talent in writing lyrics..

i just hope that he makes another album for us billy joel fanatics.

    way to go!!

  • Thank you so much, cesarapolinario. I appreciate your kind words. Yes, the "Greatest Hits" CD is one of the best ones to buy; it has all Billy's greatest songs. And Billy Joel is the most talented, most precise in writing lyrics! I agree with you!

I hope he makes another album as well! I'd buy it even if it meant sleeping in line! ^^

  • I love this song! XD

  • One of the most beautiful love songs ever written. Great song, soaring melody, and Billy's voice at its peak. Thanks for posting.
