I have switched to the Dvorak keyboard layout a couple of months ago (thanks to this video) and my avarage typing speed is about 60 words per minute and it exceeds.

@sighisoaraa Wow, that's awesome that you switched! Don't worry, you won't suddenly forget how to use QWERTY; otherwise, when I learned QWERTY, I would have forgotten Dvorak, which I learned first! I hope you have lots of fun with Dvorak; I imagine the faster you type, the more you'll type! Maybe one day you can post your own typing video with a faster score than mine :-)

@KBurchfiel I actually forgot Qwerty (thank God) and I never want to use it again, it just doesn't feel right, I hate it. The Dvorak an the other hand is very different from the Qwerty, it was designed for faster and easier typing and I'm very satisfied with it. :)

hmm, Switching to the dvorak would make sense... however I've been typing on the qwerty layout since... forever.. would you still recommend me to switch, I just dislike the idea of going from typing whilst looking at the screen at all times with roughly 65 wpm, to not being able to type anything for some time. Plus I have to use other computers in my spare time at university, and switching the layout each time seems like a pain.

@bradkey98765 I think if you have the spare time, you should go for it. I use QWERTY on school computers sometimes, and it's not a problem. Learning Dvorak might not come overnight, but I think the time you (potentially) save will make up for the time you spend learning it. I was fortunate in that I learned Dvorak before I learned QWERTY. When I eventually learned QWERTY, sure it was a hassle at first (and I still type much slower on QWERTY), but now I'm able to do both. Good luck!

Speaking to the autor of the video. I tried this same exact text on that webpage and i had 92 wpm wiht 2 mistakes ( 97% accu) total 90 wpm. i think it's not bad. But practicing the text till you make such a high score may not be as benefical as you think. For those of you who frequently finding yourself having to use backspace, it might be good to know that (for mac) Cocoa-based browsers as well as Firefox have some text-processing hotkeys inspired from GNU readline built in. These include C-h, delete backwards, C-f/C-b cursor-forward/backward, C-a, cursor to beginning of line, C-e, Cursor to end of line, and in Firefox also C-w, delete word backwards. If you remap caps to ctrl, esp. C-h will make your typing much more awesome. Happy hacking

You can delete entire words with either ctrl+backspace or alt+backspace, can't remember. on mac it is probably apple+delete. navigate words with the arrow keys using those keys too...

You can always convert to a dvorak layout just pop all the key caps off and switch em.
