Taken from an online Rolling Stone article: The 4 members of the Rolling Stones were seen leaving a building, possibly talking about a new tour. Mick Jagger will not talk about it, wanting all the attention on his new band SuperHeavy. 50th anniversary tour in 2012 baby! HELL YEAH! Let's hope :D
maybe I watched the wrong thing online but the "stones in exile" i watched was HORRIBLE! it was just a bunch of interviews with pop artists from today talking about how exile on main street affected them. please tell me i watched the wrong thing
Indeed it was relatively boring, BUT you, like me have just watched the DVD 'bonus' disk - the BBC Alan Yentob documentary is really worth a watch for any Stones fan, lots of actual shots from the Villa giving a insight into the time spent exiled in South of France.... it can be purchased from Amazon......
@xDeadMisfitsx Pretty sure that england's tax rate @ the time was an absurd 70 something%. The stones had absolutely no choice but to pack up and move out of the country or live life in financial dispare.@ the time all this was happening it was one of the biggest newsmakers during that era!Governments were involved.England's gov. was pissed, ''how dare they even think of doing such a thing !''Let's say you made $100,000 last year, after filing your taxes you only took home$26,000?Get Fkd Rite?
@glimmertwinsproduct That isn't what I was questioning though. I'm aware of that situation. I just don't get how in the DVD they say they, literally, had no money, yet they lived in quite wonderful places in France.
@xDeadMisfitsx My friend,I'm not sure which dvd you're speaking of,but these are The Stones we're talking about. They damn well had $. The problem was that they owed so much for taxes that ''on paper''they were broke. Not the case however. To them having a million dollars in the bank is being broke.Think about it,during this time they put out Beggars,Bleed,Ya Yas,and Sticky, plus toured to support each album.Shit, you're talking 20mill albums sold in a 5yr period, plus tour proceeds.Lotta dough!
@glimmertwinsproduct It was this DVD. Mick Jagger said it. Bands don't get alot of money for albums, mostly merchandise. Plus they were with Decca, you owned all the Stones stuff (songs and all).
didnt they make this 1 about 50 years ago?oh yea we forgot about these copla gems suckers oh and its all sonically recorded you can hear keith fart at the end of happy

I love the stones so much and Exile. I love this post bc it explains the words "Exile." The inspiring thing for me is seeing them write in a basement; not unlike any other musician. Dweedling on & on until something cool happens; like Torn & Frayed - man do love that song!

i watched this on netflix than bought the album and documentary, this album is so good it makes me cry. this really shows where aerosmith and black crowes got their influence
In early 1970's the Rolling Stones were in the top. The Beatles had disjoined; Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison had died. And they released many successful hits. In spite of Brian Jones death, the partnership Jagger/Richards was consolidated. Perhaps Led Zeppelin was the only group that could compete with them at that time.
David Rockefeller, founder of the Trilateral Commission, stated in his memoirs that his goal is planetary government. CONSPIRACY = a devious plan hatched by 2 or more. \\\ The prisons abound with conspirators.
Anything recorded in a pristine sterile studio is SHIT!! All Rock albums shoul be recorded in dilapidated homes, basements, barns, or primitive studios using basic recording methods!
I'm watching this documentary right now on Netflix. If you like seeing old footage of the Stones long before they became has-beens, then its a must-see.
There's no audio from the video shot back then, Thus, we have no idea what anyone in the band was thinking at the time.
However, there's reflective commentary recorded recently. That's pretty cool.
FAITH. A massive 100-yr.-old oak tree is cleaved by lightning. Although the tree remains standing it no longer attracts picnickers who had once sought shade beneath her canopy. Why? The faith that people once had in this tree's structural integrity has been challenged. PARANOIA. Long before the 100-yr.-old oak was compromised by a lightning-strike one man would not venture within a thousand feet of the tree as he was in mortal fear that it would topple. The MORAL: A lack of faith = paranoia.
@Asparagusville faith in what? sure, i have total faith a healthy tree won't fall on me, but do i have faith that someone can tell me what happens after we die? no, because there is plenty of concrete evidence as to the nature of healthy trees, but no evidence of what happens after death. so, lack of faith does not=paranoia. completely illogical statement. and for that matter, what does this have to do with the stones?
When there good, it's Ok. Something like "Love you live", is the best fRock 'n'dRooll album the seventies brought us. When they is up assing it, anytime they is spekin a into view, then you want them to leave!!
nice what I could see, but I had to keep rolling up the old eye in the middle of the video thing scares me.. just like being an exile can be scary, at times.. a must see !
fair enough, exile is more than just an album.....but you have to admit the stones have become a total cabaret act that are there to sell their merchandise more than anything.
@murray84 yeah thats right, its a lot of merchandise and different cd version and so on but this band has an big history. so i like every dvd / cd from the old times. i mean look at her age. i'am 22 and love such documentaries because i didnt was born at the release from EOMS :)
@murray84 Bullshit, the stones a caberet act, LOL! That is the stupidest thing I ever heard. As far as sales, what is wrong with makin money? Stones have earned there standing in rock, the greatest rock band ever!
@harp1925: This is a charge that some critics have leveled at the band in their later years but, having seen them live in recent years, and having seen a lot of recent concert footage, it's a charge that just dosen't stick. It's not The Rolling Stones in their prime but they remain a great and real Rock N Roll band. However, I do have to agree that ticket prices have become over-priced. $135 to attend a Rock N Roll show? Prices like these exemplify how grotesque this "industry" has become.
I already own the Exile on Mainstreet album. Is the CD that just came out (apart from the 10 bonus songs ofcourse) got any additional perks on it (like interviews, old documentaries etc etc) that might tempt me into buying it again??
I love vintage behind-the-scenes material. It's a shame it's pretty rare, no matter what artist or genre. I guess artists don't have a tendency to film their creative process, I know personally I might find it annoying.
@dockaiser I think the Mobile was built before thos album. Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Bob Marley and countless other used it later. I was the first mobile studio to my knowledge. I actually recorded Patti Smith with in the 90's!
I've been blessed to see the stones three times! They truly are the best band ever in the world. I hope they tour at least one more time, so I can take my son to see them!
Once you see the Stones alive, you think you can die in peace.... Oh my Gosh!!! 30 years and more making music!!! How many people saw them??? They must be the band that has been seen the most in the history!!!
