  • could you send me a personal message or something explaining how you compressed it?

    it would be much appreciated.

    thanks

  • 240? Really thats it

  • @QualityKush resolution is just a number look at what came out nice footage!

  • To be honest a DSLR would be better

  • @Xay90 thats what im thinking

  • disculpa usaste algun lente o adaptador porque yo no puedo hacer esos desenfoques de profundidad con la misma camara Canon gl2 , la uso en foco manual y si desenfoca , pero no hace la profundidad de campo

  • Even in 240p it looks amazing.

  • How can a GL2 be considered prosumer?

  • WHAT ACCESORIES DID YOU USED TO RECORD THIS? ANY KIND OF LENS OR SOMETHING? I WANT A CAMERA THAT HAS THE FOCAL FUNCTION AND THIS ONE LOOKS PERFECT. PLEASE REPLY

  • IM BUYING THIS ONE FOR SURE!!!

  • just use a dslr

  • How do you got these blurs?

  • should I get the vx1k or canon gl2 if I filming skate videos?

  • @NoamOchJeppe Vx1k is highly used in lots of skate videos,

the Gl2 is just the canon version of it baisicly a little better audio they are really about the same gl2 has an lcd screen. just choose whatever one both are great cameras and you will be happy with eaither one

  • what did you do to get it like that

  • okay someone please help me, i'm using a GL2 but i can't seem to get a good depth of field. I'm interviewing people so i sit my subject on a chair and i try to fade out their back ground but it just all goes out of focus, what is the trick?

  • should you get Letus Xtreme 35mm

  • about how much would the gl2 cost in canada?

  • it looks really nice, color correction makes a big difference, mmm how do you make it look natural

  • how to you change the bits

  • Can you connect another mic to this camera? Like a mic to attach to your shirt. I know there is a mic that is on the top, but I want a corded mic that I can attach to my shirt. Also, can you make these videos in HD? (The videos you shoot with this cam)

  • how do you do that withe the canon gl2? ,, i want that camera, i need to know, is a god camera????

  • this looks is amazing. so different than the normal HD digital camera i got. its able to focus parts some parts and not others.

  • This appears to be grainy to me. Is youtube causing it, or something else?

  • Is that focusing being done manually? It's brilliant.

  • LoL - i have the canon Vixia HF-S11 which only cost me 1,250.00 much less then the GL2, the short films that i've filmed & edited using the vixia destroys the GL2. No disrespect to any GL2 owners at all here just making a point that the 1,200 dollar vixia is capable of filming just as good as the gl2 for half the price. Something you consumers might want to think about before you purchase. Click my link & check my short films for yourselves.

  • Yes I have a DV cable,4 to 6 prong.I plug it in and nothing happens? What is supposed to happen when you plug it in? Is there any steps I need to do to get it to work. This is so messed up lol.

Oh and if I have a firewire port on my computor,Does that mean I already have firewire?

  • I Bought my GL2 from EBAY.

I have windows 7. Does the GL2 work with windows 7?

And how to you transfer the video to your computor?

    Im stuck BAD!!

  • wow lol....... do you have the firewire cable for the camera?

  • The GL2 does look better then AVCHD camcorder, due to consumer level camcorders compress the video, it's not true HD in other words. which is why they call the AVCHD and not just HD. I try the panasonic HDC-HS9 was disappointed no way near the detail more likely due to the lens. upgraded to a canon xl2 for HD and stick with the GL2 for SD.

Best affordable HD camcorder is the HDR-FX1000, but for a price tag of $3000 which is alot, but only way you will get HD without spending $50,000.

  • noone fall for this SCAM

  • music is beautiful

  • Also, to the guy whining about it not being HD: prosumer/consumer HD is overrated. Yeah, it helps to have the extra pixels, but I've matched properly upscaled DVX100/GL2/PD170 footage to 720p and even 1080p HVX200 footage in my reel with excellent results. Not one professional videographer has ever caught me on it. As someone who owns and loves a couple HD cameras, I can still safely say I'd take the GL2 over almost any sub-$1,000 HD camcorder.

  • @avooslwuthoqquan Mixing hvx footage in with dvx footage and saying there wasn't a difference is just silly. Hvx clarity is absolutely mind blowing.I use to own the dvx100a but than stepped up and now I own the hmc150 which shoots at full 1080p and still can tell the difference in clarity with the hvx. Even still for the price of the average gl2 still you can go consumer hd and get a 35mm adaptor all for the same price, which would produce shots 100x better. Why go sd with so many hd options

  • I never said there isn't a difference between HVX and DVX footage, just that the difference is overrated. HVX footage is far from "mind blowing" in the clarity department. That little CCD barely passes as HD imop. Even the EX1 with mpeg-2 gets better images. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my HVX, but if I was just starting out I'd want a GL2 over a consumer HD cam for a host of reasons: greater control over the image settings, audio, and a far superior lens, even if the HD is a bit sharper.

  • yeah me too. all consumer HD mainly sucks ass. the Prosumer 3 chip HDs are really nice

  • can someone tell me the thread size for the gl2

    thanks

  • 52 mm

  • can you upload your videos with using a memory card !?

    please answer

  • Great video showing what can be done with this camera.

  • Is the gl2 a good camera to buy?

  • @ben2sk8 Yes, as long as you don't need XLR inputs. Some people like the VX2000/2100s better for that price range. All are fine cameras, the main advantage of the GL2 is the 20x zoom imop.

  • @avooslwuthoqquan

would it be ok for my first DV, im currently using a digital camcorder which store files as seperate clips

  • Yeah, it's a great starter camera. It's what I learned on. Really easy to use and lots of image control. I wouldn't spend over $1300 for one anymore though. There's too much other competition out there at that price point.

  • awsooome nesss

  • Awesome, I love my gl2. Very nice camera.

    Like the vid!

  • you idiots need to understand that HD is not the most important thing. Its a healthy balance. The 199$ probably shoots horrendously in low light.

The audio is probably shit etc. Plus the Canon GL2 uses a 3 CCD sensor.

  • Fukin gayyyy music ya dubbed over it man. But besides that the vid quality is outstandin m8. Did I read sumwhere that that aint even HD??? Looks the nuts m8.

  • It's not even HD.

    Wow.

  • so what? More pixels doesnt make a movie...

  • For the price... it should be HD

My camcorder is $199 and it's HD 1080p

  • the gl2 is a prosumer camera, you can do much more than what u can do with your puny $199 camera, the GL2 rocks

  • puny? It's amazing...

It's worth like $300 in my opinion

    But it's not $159

It's the best camcorder for the price

  • some like the canon hv30 are great, but the canon gl2 is a masterpiece, yeah its not HD but so what, you can make great things with regular DV footage, ppl shit themselves over HD and they wanna make all these videos with it, truth is, if your story blows dick, the look of the film wont matter, i still love the grainy and raw look DV has, changes the mood of your film completely, just watch 28 days later, i dont think that movie wouldve looked had the same feel in HD

  • @alistahr Yeah but it's freaking expensive.

I would suggest a HFS 20 or 10. You can get almost the same results from those two with the right lighting and setting, mic etc.

  • @Bruceforge i have a gl2 and yes it was expensive haha

  • @alistahr Gah, I wish I could get one, even though I would prefer Flash memory over dv tapes

  • @Bruceforge yeah ive had mine for a couple of years and im still very happy with it

  • @alistahr Awesome. I found a site that cuts the price down on Canon camcorders. So I might be having quality like this. I love it. By the way what is that music? it sounds familiar. or is it something you made up.

  • @Bruceforge idk this isnt my video lol

  • @alistahr is a prosumer camera like the ones we use, there in the middle of consumer and cinematic cameras, is that right, or what???

  • Comment removed

  • @alistahr its not even 720p and not 24 fps either, hows it prosumer?

  • @Doctopie uh...its SD prosumer, came out in 02 when SD was still relevant. You're a little kid so you might not know there was a different type of format before HD.... WOW

  • @alistahr so even after 8 years its still considered prosumer? hows that when there are so many other better cameras for a better price?

  • @Doctopie The GL2 res -720x480 media - Mini DV or Firestore, data format - DV25. Its SD but with proper lighting it looks almmmmmmmost HD. The camera is old by industry standards but still great and yes its a prosumer camera still. Why? Hot shoe, alot of options / presets, 4:3 or 16:9 XLR cables can be interefaced with it as well with adapter. This camera is great for event footage. It also has a flourite lens that is insane. My videos are on inyourfaceentdotcom

  • HD dosent really matter, this camera is FAR superior to any $1000 dollar HD camera, if you can list 1 HD camera for the same price, that can match this quality then im wrong. HD dosent mean it looks nicer, it justs means it has more pixels

  • what are you talking about??? I agree this is a good camera, but more pixels=better quality.. that's why HD looks better.

  • yes that is if it has a good image processor, most consumer camcorders have crappy image processor ( plus a crappy lens) unlike this GL@ which has a nice(not the best) processor, and a great lens

  • The Canon EOS 5D Mark 2 is a nice HD camera for a great price. I am looking at one with a great lens that sells for 3,250. I can't decide between that and the XH A1S.

  • YEs and those HD cameras have nice image processors unlike those of cheaper models, and i would go for the 5D mark 2 over the XH A1s, the 5d has GREAT HD video, and i has amazing DOF, which would cost alot for the XH A1s

  • I agree. The DOF is ridiculous. I am leaning towards the 5D. I will be using it for music video productions so I am not worried about the problem with the mic quality.

  • how do you get it to blur on one object and then focus on another like that?? let me know. i have the canon gl2... please and thankyou

  • well i know how to do that on a photorgaphy camrea. sooooo this is how you maybe able to do it... well use manual foucs. foucs on the one object slowly then get it to foucs on the outer space. just play around with the camrea. sorry im not good at explaining things.

  • manual focus.....

  • you use the focus ring.

  • Dude, I love this video man, its really good. I'm trying to get a GL2. You need to use a tripod though. Other than that it is great dude.

  • yeah the gl wasnt that great to film skating but it was nice, now were just a sony hd cam, good clean footage

  • the gl actually can be a great camera to film skateboarding with. its not the camera, its the person behind the lens...

  • Yeah, I know nothing about video cameras. I'm an audio engineer, and have been doing live multitrack recordings for local bands. I'm thinking about introducing video, so that I can offer a concert DVD to bands. Is this a camera that works well in extremely low light and dynamic lighting?

  • This just video just made me want to buy the sony vx-2100

  • im thinking about getting this camera to film skating and snowboarding would you recomend this or another camera

  • I'd recommend the Sony VX2100 for that type of filming. That's basically what that camera was designed for, whereas the GL2 is a bit more for independent filmmaking.

  • yeah my friend said the same thing he said get a vx1, vx2, or a vx2100. But thanks

  • id have to say that if you wanted to film for one of those you stick with sony... in the vx series...

my personal fav is the vx1000

  • vx1 is great but you allways have to send it to the shop for repairs

in my experience i regret it because with the money i spent on the camera with repairs could have gotten me a vx2100 or a Canon XH-A1

  • i just purchased a gl2 and i wasnt sure how to manually set the focus would anyone know how? if so pm or reply to this

    thanks

  • Press the mf button on the left side near the lens and use the ring at the front to focus.

  • shit ur good at manual focus. Great vid, man.

  • How do you swich to 30p?

    Really good video man.

  • he did it in after effecs

  • I really need to buy one soon.

The Canon GL2 shoots amazing videos.

  • how does it focus up close then far away like that?

  • manual focus

  • Did you shoot in widescreen mode? I'm always afraid to do that because I can never get a good feel for what things look like since the viewfinder is 4:3

  • is the qaulity so good because of the light or some type of lense?

  • im sold, about to buy one of these babies. any advice on where to buy? Thanks friend,

    James

  • this is a really nice video...im actually thiknng about buying the gl2 and this is a good representation

  • what is your compression method for this video? i think it looks more clear on youtube.

  • how do you get your video to be that small??

  • Just a Question:

Can a "Sony VCL-DH0758 58mm 0.7x Wide Angle Conversion Lens " fit on a Canon GL2 even though it's made for still shots? It's the exact same diameter as a Canon Wide Angle lens.

  • i would just buy a mk2 death.

  • That thing, where you focus on something really close, and everything else is blurry and out of focus, and then you switch and get on focus on the background and then everything near is blurry.

What is that called? That rick, or mode, or setting?

  • It's called Depht of field.

You use the focus ring on the camera to adjust it.

  • It is called Rack Focus. Depth of field is set/adjusted by the Iris. Open Iris gives a shallower depth of field. To rack focus, open Iris as much as possible (use a filter if too much light is getting in, or increase shutter speed) then MANUALLY focus between two objects at different distances. -- Ivan

  • It is called RACK FOCUS. Use the focus ring in Manual setting. --Ivan

  • also, the background and foreground will be more blurred if its zoomed in more

these are the factors that determine depth of field

    1. how open is the iris

    2. how close is the subject to the camera

    3. which focal lenght (how zoomed in) is the lens at

    4. the size of the sensor

  • my dream camera...savin' up for it =)

  • There's a lot of factors in what makes a camera good. The primary things that makes a GL2 better than your off-the-rack cheapo HD cam are 3ccd color receptors (most consumer cams have 1ccd, so less color depth), as well as many manually configurable options that consumer cameras do automatically. Think of prosumer cams as a PC that you setup how you want, and consumer cams as a Mac that does everything for you.

  • dont generalize i edit all my stuff on a pc, takes no time and im happy with the results

  • What do you edit on this pc

  • adobe premiere, photoshop, and mostly after effects, all cs4, my computer hasn't crashed once

and last year at this film festival i met a lot of people who edited their films on pc's.

  • People who know nothing about workstation graphics processors and quad core processors use macs. lol

  • i have a pc and it has a quad core

  • the gl2 by canon it's my favorite SD camera ever!!!!

  • lovely

  • If you like this music you will love Brian Turner's piano music. Check him out on myspace...

  • this video is really pleasant.

  • Please I need some help. Im looking into buy a Gl2 for myself and was wondering if the cam corder has a 16:9 ratio format. I like the artistic look of widescreen for short films. Would you recomend the Gl2 for making widscreen films? Thnx alot, Also is there a port for shot gun mikes?

  • Great looking footage. I have a Canon HV-20 and am considering trading it for a GL-2. Even though the HV-20 has HD, it doesn't seem to look as good in standard as the GL-2. I am also filming indoors a lot with low light and that seems to be the weakness of the HV-20. Any thoughts or suggestions?

  • WOW! I'm trying to decide on a video camera to get (I want a really professional look) to use on my first film project. Would you recommend this camera? Is it hard to master? Worth the price? This footage makes me want to go out and get one right now!

  • im getting this in like a week

  • dude whats your name my name is Henry Bachmann, weird right and i make films, just not on here real dvd's

  • what lenses did you use?

  • no adapter, no extra lenses, just the on camera lens.

  • what editing software do you use

    your coloring is amazing

  • pls read the descrition, its all in there. cheers

  • I love my GL2 :)

Strange to just have a video with rack focuses

  • Damnit the gl2 is so much better than the gl1 but i only have $ for the gl1. :/

  • Bro, you can find good used GL2's on ebay for $900-1200. Prices are dropping everyday with everyone switching to HD. I just paid $935(used) and I couldn't be happier that I pulled the trigger. Do it!

  • the gl2 isnt high def is it?

  • Man... I have seen this vid a couple times now seeing what the cameras look like that I wanted to rent, and I can't get over how captivating this song is. Is it royalty-free, I would love to use it in a video!

  • very beautiful place.

  • how do u change the blur of the video to look at a thing behind it?

  • are you serious? you adjust the focus on the camera while you're filming.

  • maybe he is new to the filming game...

  • i think it makes it look cool in some parts.

  • Yeah, that was kinda mean. Maybe he's new to this stuff.

  • It's called the focus. Just like your eyes have to focus on either something close or far away your camera should be able to also. This makes the objects in the distance you're not focusing on appear blurry.

  • you get fucking good collers

  • did you seriously not know how to spell colors?

  • I snowboard, skateboard, and wakeboard. I make videos with my Sony DCR-HC21. I think it's time to upgrade. I use Sony Movie Studio 8. Which camera should I get the GL2 or the VX2100. Can I use the GL2 on Sony Movie Studio 8.

    thxs

  • vx2100 for sure.

  • The GL2 is actually a better choice for extreme sports. It has shake reduction, and it has very good adjusting focus, keeping the focus on the man and never the background. Also checkout Glidecam's stuntcam-only 100$ and it is a great light handel great for skating and riding

  • THE GL2 has an unlimited number of changeable lenses because it uses SLR (the same as photogaphers). Depending on how detailed ur getting I would get the GL2. both good though.

  • how do you change focus while shooting? just simply do it manually?

  • yes, just turn the focus ring on manual focus mode.

  • great vid...love the gl2

  • looks nice. i like the rolling focuses. i love my gl-2. it so versatile.

  • But nobody is telling me what is so gosh darn great about 24 fps versus good ole 29 fps.

    /YesSirReeBob

  • if you read the Gl-2 literature. it says that regular mode(as in all video cameras) is 60i fps. movie mode in a gl2 is 29p fps. so it almost looks like 24. the xl-1&2 do 24fps. it just gives it a more cinematic look and allows more exposure time so you can really play with lighting gradients in post.

  • I know nothing about 60fps. Final Cut uploads data from GL2's mini-DV tape results in 29.97fps clip.

Explanation 24 fps, in camera, gives a frame more time for light from the lens makes sense. By inductive reasoning, I would propose at 1 fps you would get bright blurs.

It would make a nice YouTube clip to show the same scene shot in 24 fps and 29 fps that would clearly highlight the "filmic", ie, artistic, difference. I have shot in 24 fps but can see no difference.

  • i made a mistake. the xl-2 shoots in 60i. the gl-2 doesnot shoot in 24p. it shoots in 30i (regular mode) & 30p (movie mode) the "p" stands for progressive scan and that gives a film look close to 24p. "i" stands for interlaced. i will post sometime a 24p-30p-30i clip sometime. 24p and 30p look cinematic because all film is shot at 24 fps. you cant shoot a 1fps because that is pratically a slide show. your brain doesnt start bluring images into motion until about 15-18fps.

  • 24fps is the film standard 29fps is the video standard. Some people think if you shoot at 24fps it gives the video a motion look of film. A better example would be if you set a camera to 30fps or 29fps and record someone waving there arms. Then switch to 29fps or 30fps and make your subject do the same action. The video shot with 24fps should have more motion blur because it's recording less frames per second. The video should show full detail or close to full detail throughout the shot.

  • Looks really good!

What method did you use to compress this?

  • video settings: H264 - 2000Kbits/sec - 320 x 240

  • the focussing is awesome

  • what program do you use for magic bullet. And what would you recommend for someone who wants to use magic bullet without buying a whole new editing program.

  • read the description, but the focussing thing is done on the actual camcorder, right?

  • right

  • did u use any affects on the footage in any video editor? or is this the real thing... because the shots look amazing

  • read the description, may answer your question.

    cheers

  • oh hahah whoops... usually i never nead the discription! But thanks man! cya

  • does it use a focus well? also how is the quality for the mic and does it realy work in bi directional

  • Wheel

  • is this the GL2 Mini DV 3CCD Camcorder?

  • yes it is
