Opera is a living thing. No use lamenting dead composers and singers...find those who are still doing their thing. Neill. Today is ripe with golden voices...if you look for them. Usually not the ones who are being sold to us, though. They are all hype, for the most part. Tired, wobbly and boring...or nasal, tight and forced.
Comunque cari amici americani.... amo l'america. Sono venuto anche da voi a cantare (Boheme - Butterfly etc.) e sono stato felice del pubblico. Ma non posso accettare che per varie ragioni (90% per colpa delle gestioni italiane) si debba ogni volta subire l'invasione di cantanti (da tutto il mondo) che (con tutta la buona volontà) non sono assolutamente in grado di esprimere (come i nostri grandi cantanti del passato) l'espressione e l'arte del melodramma italiano.
Credo che siamo d'accordo. Allora che fare? Zajick, altro cantante americano (per me rimane bravissima per i suoi 56 anni) a detto al giornale New York Times che per ascoltarla dobbiamo consultare i clip Youtube--raro trovarla sui dischi, raro sentirla al Metropolitan. Il povero Neill utilizzato qua e là come "cover" sempre sta cambiando repertorio e spesso in un repertorio impegnativo, credo, per una voce adatta piuttosto a Donizetti. Lui anche soffre dal sistema che lamentiamo qui.
Canta un po' in falsetto (non a mezza voce) per poi ingolare gli acuti come un aquila reale... come del resto tutti gli americani grassi, brutti come il peccato e dalla voce frocetta. Ma la finiamo o no di portare questa gente nella patria del melodramma ????

Da quando in Italia le agenzie liriche sono in mano a sudamericani, a vegliardi che non hanno mai cantato una nota...da quando i direttori artistici dei teatri (vedi Scala) sono del tutto incompetenti (infatti mr.Targetti è un architetto)... ECCO IL RISULTATO !!! Dicono che in italia non ci sono voci. La verità è che nessuno CI promuove. PROVARE PER CREDERE... comunque MR.America è meglio di Filianoti no doubt !
Credo di si per tutto che hai detto. Il signore Neill ha spiegato che aveva solo 3 ore di preparazione con il cast e ha ricevuto la notizia della sostituzione sabato--24 ore prima della performance. Incredibile abusare tutti e due cantanti così.
