Comparing each singer? Contest? I thought that being musician meant we make music "new" not a mere copy of others. That's why these sopranos are famous because they have something to say as artists! :/
Love her! The only problem I see is this blonde wig forced upon her - she has beautiful distinctive black hair, producers should embrace that, not try to transform her into a scandinavian blonde. I vaguely remember there was a controversy about her not accepting to wear a blonde wig for Carmen, and she is totally right. The only effect is that it makes her look decades older.
Wow! Very interesting version of it. It amazes me how most of the others just sing through it with mediocre acting, but Angela actually manages to make me believe her! Nice! ^_^
Her voice is GORGEOUS and truly BEAUTIFUL! ...but while she possesses the voice of a princess, her acting is nothing but vulgar. That has nothing to do with temperament anymore. But after all, the voice of an opera singer is the essence. I would just rather buy a Cd than a DVD of one of her performances.
I love her voice. Better, in fact than any of the others I have heard sing this. I probably like it so much because I will never sound that light. stunning...and very good acting.
Amazing! She is so fabulous. You can hear many of the great sopranos taking in air. I mean really! No one is truly perfect. It's about doing your best with what you have as well bring the music and words to life! She is one of the best at that. Hence why she is where she is. Hello...
I cant stand her, and i think her technique is manipulated, but i gotta hand it to her she does very well here. plus i like how she acts like a girl who is dreaming about being someone noble rather than going all school girlish and sappy.
but lets be be honest. hers is a beautiful but tiny voice. she cannot fill a big house like the vienna state opera where she is currently singing faust
@mrlammermoor Apparently you haven't heard small voices...Gheorghiu possesses a big lyric voice that has squillo and can reach the back seats of houses as the royal opera house that i happened to have heard her as Mimi.
What a reich, potent voice! I really enjoyed watching her in the role which is equally important in my opinion. I'd say, she's by far my favorite...there are a few spots where her voice seemed on the verge of a crack, but she covers it quite well.
She always seems to have a problem with taking in breaths. With the greatest sopranos, they sound inhuman (in that you never hear them breathe). Her voice is by no means bad, but it isn't one of my favorites. There are far prettier sounding sopranos.
This is the best one, but what I hate about Gheorghiu is to sing so 'stressed', she never sings relaxed, always seems to speed things up. It is not only her vibrato but also how she ends ands start her phrases! Can't stand this about her... 3/5
I think it looks good on her! :) I have a video in my favorites from television about her and Roberto Alagna, filmed on a night that she sings this role! It's worth watching!
I'm pretty sure it's only for the role. Margharite is supposed to be blonde...in fact she's often got blonde braids (on the bright side she's not wearing an obvious wig...some of the wigs I've seen for this character are truly awful LOL)
I believe this to be a voice that you either really like, or don't really care for. I'm not saying there's something bad about it, but something about the voice just makes me desire to listen to someone else... I don't understand, it's nothing about the technique... just the timbre I think I don't like? Good performance though!
I think she is an all around terrific singer. I love the rich timbre of her voice and how easily she manipulates all the potential vocal hazards to her advantage. She does a great job with the chest voice. I give her top grades.
I'm a closet fan of hers and I know there are many who hate to love her but I have to admit this is one of those moments where she is just brilliant, very beautiful indeed 5/5
Gheorghiu puts her all into the interpretation, and combines a sense of excitement and elegance in her singing. At times, she nearly exceeds the normative French style making Marguerite sound more Italianate, but a thrilling performance. 5/5
I usually like her and expected a more impressive piece of singing from her in this role. Her trill sounds more like a rattle, but at least she tried! 4/4

In this role I would rather see a coloratura singer, but her interpretation is fabulous as well, as much as her voice
FloriaTosca90 10 months ago
@FloriaTosca90 this role doesnt have any coloratura writing thats beyond her capabilities, shes pretty agile for a "non coloratura" singer

Mellifluous crap that could only have been composed by a French man or an Italian!

@bayreuth79 Could Wagner have composed this ?

@tenorismo I think he probably could have, yes. Wagner!

@bayreuth79 Stupid argument. It is not because you like German opera that French opera is worthless.

This is the song Castafiora sings all the time in the Adventures of Tintin...this is a great performance of the piece.

After her 'si, mi chiamano mimi' and this, I'm slowly become a fan. Now, if she'd only appreciate and keep to her limits when choosing other parts.

What you call "stressed" it's only a wa the reach this role. I don't see her stressed otherwise. The end it s very good!
