Im considering using the film skills I have to do an animated version of it, thats the only way I'd be able to do it to the maximum extent. An excellent montage though, I really do wish this was real, a film/miniseries like this would be a very refreshing breath of originallity.
I would love to see a tv series based on these books. I agree there is too much to include, but if it is pared down to the more interesting characters it could work. Following TR and Custer would be the center piece of the WWI part, and Chester Martin, Cincinatus, Scipio, Ann Colleton and her brother , and Jake Featherston would fill out a well rounded story. The coffee house in DC and the Moss storyline could make minor appearances. It could work.
The Timeline 191 can never be made into a TV series because there is just too much information for the audience to digest. Other vital information would be glossed over and end up being a mess.
@eflint; Fascism without centralization is pretty much feudalism. I don't know many american southerners, do you think they some dressed up new feudalism might have appealed to them more?
Turtledove's whole premise is flawed. It's ridiculous to think that the CSA would have gotten involved in WW1 and later embraced the radical centralization of fascism after they had fought of war of independence in order to keep radical centralization from happening. It does seem though that the Yankee nation has elected a man very similar to Jake Featherston
@eflint1 Dude, chill out. Turtledove is a science FICTION writer. He has other books which include time travelers giving the Confederate Army AK-47s, the USA developing into 50 sovereign nations, and SS officers riding unicorns. His writings are meant to entertain, not to push a political agenda.
@CongressmanCYD Chill out? Excuse me, but I was simply expressing an opinion. I like Harry and have dozens of his books. i was simply stating where I think he misses it.
Yeah, a mini-series based on Turtledove´s books would be awesome. Oh, and by the way. I came to think that Jake Featherston might find a strong supporter in Dave Hasselhoff. He´s looking for FREEDOM too, after all.
my favorite part is in American Front, scene where Lincoln and Brit diplomat are discussing French and British intervention on the side of the CSA. Lincoln says maybe someday, we'll have friends in Europe. The diplomat can't stop himself from laughing and says, a nation to fight both the french and the British. this was 1860s, before the coalescence of Germany. in a show they could have that scene at the beginning, then have a montage of hindenburg and germany or something.
You may also want to start with (or at least do a prequel) about the events in "How Few Remain" (from the Confederacy winning the "War of Secession" to the Second Mexican War).
BTW, you do remember that the Union wears German-style uniforms while the Confederates wear Allied-style uniforms right? I also think that Mel Gibson should play Gordon McSweeny (a Presbyterian bigot who wields a flamethrower and fights for the Union) since both guys are reilgiously bigoted and kinda nuts.
The battle scene is from a movie called Passchendale, a movie made by Paul Gross and filmed in Alberta Canada. Its a memorial to the Canadian soldiers who fought in WW1
I just dont see the religious black community becoming communists.

They should turn all of the Timeline 191 books into movies or an HBO series. From How Few Remain to Settling Accounts: In at the Death

I've read all 11 books of Harry Turtledove's Timeline 191. I would hope that HBO or somebody would pick up on that idea for a series!
