  • I don't know if these work by air pressure or wicking action - and I don't care. I've used them several times. Each time the stub of the hollow tube is filled, not with pale yellow beeswax, but with *red-orange* EAR wax - the same as I can pull from my ears superficially with a Q-tip. My hearing improves. My partner's sinusitis improves. All of this disparagement - citing Newtonian physics, or snake oil mythology - is parroting the medical/pharmaceutical establishment's hostile PR. Try it!

  • so what happens if you melt the candles wax into your ear ?

  • If you dont know what your talking about you shouldn't comment...... this does work! NOTHING DRIPS !!! The candle is not even made of wax.....get some education before you try to so negatively throw people off with your ignorance.

  • How utterly ridiculous!! Creates suction??? How exactly??? There's no way a vacuum can form!

Let's suspend the laws of physics and believe in fairies for a moment shall we? OK? Well... the 'draft' from your flame would be so weak it would be a mere miniscule fraction of that subjected to all our ears every time the wind blows. So, is the air at a busy, windy train station thick with ear wax being sucked out and flying around? No!! So please use that brain of yours & start thinking logically.

  • Gotta make sure you you dip the tip in some snake oil to get a proper seal..... I'm surprised they haven't come up with butt candling to cure constipation....

  • Oszustwo :)

  • lol burn one of these candle without a ear. u will find the same result from that candle

  • what if it sucks hard and takes my brain out ? hah smarty ?

  • bad bad idea ! not my ears . . .

  • It's so interesting how peope will go to the doctor and take a pill, but won't try a simple technique that has worked for virtually thousands of people. I'm sure I could have gone to an ENT to dig in my ears with metal tools and suggest all kinds of expensive ear tubes, but this simple technique drained and un-blocked my ears. If you don't beleive it that's fine you're entitled to your opinion, but don't bash something you know nothing about.

  • @calbert1999 Your 'cure' was due to two things. (i) Placebo Effect, & (ii) Reversion to the Mean.

p.s. I've used candles, (knowing they were a scam), and a very pleasant & fun sensation they were.

p.p.s. I last went to the doctors aged 16, (29yrs ago). I've not taken a pill, or sipped a medicine, since then. However, if/when I do become ill and require treatment I can assure you I'll be using medicines that have been approved as providing some form of benefit following double-blind trial.

  • @RohypGnosis Calbert1999? Where are you? You sent me a message but now I can't find you or reply!! Have you blocked me? Why? Is it because you've realised you reply to me made you seem even sillier? :D

p.s. I didn't mention methematics at all, so I'm not sure why you think I brought it up! n.b. "RttM" in relation to Health means by the time you're fed up with being ill and bother to see someone you're body is well into repairing itself... Hence 'Snake Oil' appears to work!

  • I can explain how they work in two words: they don't.

  • Ok, let's assume the paraffin wax is not melting and going to the bottom of the candle. Let's assume the suction explanation is actually viable. How does the suction occur without a perfect seal of the ear candle in the superficial ear canal? Try sucking water through a straw without having the entire end of the straw fully inserted in the water. You won't get jack through the straw without a powerful suction force, which the ear candle does not provide. These do NOT work.

  • @criticallistenphile

It's rather basic science. Using a flame to create a vacuum is not quackery.

  • @3rdEYEbeHolder No, you are right, flame can be used to create a vacuum. That is basic science and what is even more basic is the need for there to be a perfect seal between the suction point and the chamber in which one wants that vacuum to exist. An ear candle does not seal against the ear canal as it burns. It rests in it. Therefore, having an opening through which the candle can draw air, means that there is no vacuum in the ear. It's like having a cut in your vacuum hose - no suction.

  • lololol, another stupid expert village video. i don't think these are very good experts considering how much dangerous shit i've seen them condone and try to teach. This practice has been proven by the FDA to NOT aid medically, and also can drip wax from the candle into your ear causing burns and possible damage to the ear drum, causing reversible or permanent hearing loss. This video has been Flagged.

  • If you burn one by itself it looks the same as if you do it in the ear!

  • We all know he's about to get laid. Because ear candles dont work

  • They don't work. I used one and got all that stuff in the bottom--very yellow like soot. So I got another one, taped the bottom closed and lit it. When I was burned down to about 3 inches, I put the fire out and opened it up. Same yellow stuff on the bottom without it being in my ear. Don't waste your money like I did!

  • wake up sleepyhead

  • i got 99 problems but ear wax ain't one.

  • @xOHxSNAPSx you must be an alien humans have earwax

  • I've seen ear candle advertisements that show how much junk gets sucked out of the ear after using one. Oddly, you can get the same stuff out of a hard surface if you hold the candle up to it instead.

  • Shrek makes better ear candles.

  • prank him , set his ear on fire lol

  • Does this feel good? I want to know

  • @BuckeyeSecretary yes dude it feels awesome and you can hear so much better

  • I do this another way! all you need is newpaper and fire!

Folding the newspaper in a cone shape and put the smallest side in your ear and fire up that opposite side. must tilt head side ways thought.... lol! IT WORKS!

Only if you don't want to go out and buy candles!

  • that guy looks so comfy lol

  • SHE KILLED HIM!

  • Ear candles do NOT work. They melt wax within the candle and that wax drips INTo the ear and can cause severe damage. And thus, experiments with the ear candles in a JAR of NOTHING have this so-called 'ear wax" in them. It is wax from candle and in the jar-is candle wax that would be in your EAR from the candle-burning your eardrum & clogging your ear with candle wax.Don't promote this bogus fad as "medicinal" please. It is not plus-it's very dangerous!

  • @denisethepainter you need to buy good ones made by proferssinals and it wont happen my grandma makes them very well

  • @denisethepainter bogus comment

  • @denisethepainter this is simply untrue, Denise. I've done this several times, and each time the burned down candle tube is filled, not with beeswax, but with characteristically sticky, red-orange EAR wax - the same color of wax I can remove from my ear with a Q-tip. All the ear candles I can find on the web now have a filter to prevent back flow - an innovation driven more by false accusations like yours than by any real danger. Mainstream medicine spends millions disparaging alternatives..

  • Ear candles are bogus!!! I did a sample test and burned one in a glass bottle... guess what??? There was "ear wax" in the half burned candle when I cut it open.

    Don't waste your money!!!

  • the amount of negative pressure needed to draw ear wax out of the canal would rupture the eardrum. I'm not saying candling doesnt do something. It just doesnt do this! I'm estimating it would take approx 45 PSI to actually do anything. Although like I said this would do some damage to the ear for sure.

  • you light the end away from the ear on fire... really, would you have put the flame in his ear?

  • I have a friend that does this and ive personally have seen the end results! When half the candle is done she scrapes the residue out of the candle and onto a paper plate to show what came out of the ear. There was ear wax, polin, black heavy metal particals etc!!!! No wonder some of us can't get rid of allergies! Eww. I havent tried it on myself yet but i have seen the result on others. Pretty cool!

  • she might as well explain why scientology is true

  • Ear candling is wonderful and has cleared up many sinus or ear pain that I have had from time to time and I've used them for years. I think people don't always do this properly and it can often take several times to clear up a blocked ear canal, but to me, it works perfectly and I don't really care what any critics say, I know it works for me.

  • it's made out of wax of some sort...sounds safe

  • it looks as though this lady has broken into this poor man's bedroom to stick things in his ears has he sleeps...

  • this is fake lol its a hoax look on youtube its paper that burns not wax

  • I have an ear infection, that hurt like a son of a gun. I tried this, and I still have it. It didn't do anything I still had pain and swelling... The over the counter ear drops didn't work either. I went to my doctor and he gave me some penicillin and ear drops, I took those with some excedrin. In 4 hours I was feeling better. The pain was cut to 50%. The swelling was getting better. 3 days later everything is good.

  • I would never let anyone do this to me. I s'pose it's nice for those who swear by it, but I've read too many negative studies/horror stories. Sounds bad to me.

  • QUACK QUACK QUACK !!!

  • Is he dead?

  • Seems to me that what this hollow candles do is pumping hot air INTO the ear canal. This should help to melt the hardened wax residues at the end of the canal, around the tympanic membrane that separates the outer ear from the tympanic cavity. Once softened this wax would move out in the normal way, over a period of time.... A better ear candle would be a properly designed hot air pump, kind of a modified hair dryer thing...

  • I put those in my cars dip stick spot, it really cleans out my cars engine.

LOL. People think this crap works because of hot girls like you make them think that

  • ive done this and its caused me a lot of problems in my left ear. Dont do it!

  • Candling is dangerous and ineffective.

  • I tried this about an hour or two ago. I did it in my right ear first and it felt fine and relieved. So, i decided to do it in my left ear, it feels like something is melted and hurts like he**. Then I did my research cause its hurting so bad. My mom melted one with out sticking it in her ear and let it burn into her hand and the wax stuff that looks like it is ear wax was all in her hand so i figure that stuff is draining into your ear and cause more damage than it is helping.

  • i wana try it

everyone whos tried it said it works

and everyone whos hating have probably never tried it

  • @KRUSTYskates They're not 'hating', they're just open-minded and have done their research. There is no scientific evidence that ear candles work despite numerous tests. This is why they're not used by actual medical doctors, but by 'alternative healers'. Alternative medicine is only alternative because they have not passed the rigourous tests to prove they have any real medical benefits.

  • Anyone who believes that this is a legitimate medical practice is a moron. Go read some research on it, and you'll find that it's totally ineffective, and often dangerous to the ear. Also, the substance inside the candle after the procedure has been found to simply be wax and ash from the candle. Don't put your hearing at risk. The body is designed to remove contaminants from the ear naturally. It's called earwax, and it's a good thing, not something to be removed.

  • I hate beeswax for my ear, I experienced back in approximately 2001, I get anxiously with candle, then it something warm but feel like so dangerous, then I panicked as get out my bed, then a little fire was falling on bed, so I glad they rushed to slap the fire then it complete gone as put the water. I blame my cousin ex-friend cause of that. But I forgive ex-friend and my cousin. I glad it didn't burn my quilt down. Whew. Now, I traumatized by it for rest my life.

  • qtip FTW!

  • in other words, q tips suck!!! everytime i use em, i get more problems!! hence, both times,. having to ear candle in the first place!

  • @uleavemecold

There is vids on youtube comparing an ear candle which burned in an hear and one that burned alone in air: they opened them, and they looked the same. There was pseudo-ear wax in the one that didn't burn in the ear too.

  • @anarchopaperclip well, thats an interesting new revelation. altho, i must say, both times i ear candled, it definitely gave me relief. both times, my right ear got clogged up, i had lodged my ear wax up into the "hole" & closed it off, causing loss of hearing in my right ear (both times). when i candled, i noticed both times a bubbling sound, and then a slow vacuuming feeling. both times i came out with a Clear ear path. (open hole) so i could hear again! it obviously did something to help! :)

  • 0:21 - 0:27 That's what she said

  • Ear candling is fake. Google it, "ear candling does not work" . Read the truth yourself

Why are these people going on YouTube to show the world that they're IDIOTS?!!! lol

  • @freefatherly of course if you google "ear candling does NOT work" people are going to say it doesn't work! That's what you typed in and THAT'S what it is going to give you! Same as if you were to type in "ear candling DOES work," it would have the same bias!

    *facepalm*

  • well wikipedia says no.

  • Ear candling is a hoax. Your ear is supposed to have wax in it, it prevents dirt and bacteria from reaching your eardrums. Not only that, but a candle can't suck anything. The flame many inches away does not liquify wax in the ear and draw it up as claimed. Everything you see is wax from the candle, not your ear.

  • try this myself at home it really works i could feel stuff coming out of my ear at the end i opened it up it was full of wax and all soughts of other stuff

  • You all do realize that this is a myth..Hopi's disclaim it ever being used by them and medical testing says...at the least...that no vacuum happens to suck up fictional dust and pollen (or even wax) from your ear. There is no convection going on, and if this were the method, you would need a machine that creates LOTS of suction, removing "stuff" but damaging your ear. The FDA warns against it's use, by the way. So, take a chance and have relaxation, say. An experience. But it cleans nothing.

  • Based to my experience abt ear candling,at first i thought it wasn't safe but then the truth is,it is safe esply if it was done by those who are experts,no pain & quite relieving.

  • dangerous nonsense

  • you dont know what you are talking about, sorry

  • i used an ear candle and it worked brilliantly. no drips of wax at all. I used a small round of cardboard to cover my fax from ash.

  • First, I have had this done many times and it works. 2nd ear candles do not draw ear wax out of the ear. Smoke goes in, helps soften the wax to make it easier to remove. The smoke also does help get rid of infection, etc. But you have to help remove the wax with water and/or ear drops. Ear Candling is very relaxing too...

One question though, what does massage therapy have to do with ear candling? I hope the massage boards don't want to regulate this "home remedy" too... Just my opinion..

  • wait, so you need to put in ear drops as well as doing the candling? Why bother, when ear drops work just fine on their own. That's like having a dishwasher that only pre-cleans dishes... you still have to wash them in the sink after. Pointless gimmick.

  • Using you analogy of the dishwasher... Doesn't a dishwasher clean pots and pans better if you pre-clean or soak them first? Also, most of the perople that comeent how dangerous it is, doesn't work, etc. are just repeating other's views, don't believe in anything that is not "recognized by the midical profession or have neverr even tried it... 20 years ago acupuncture was viewed the same way.....

  • @SDorje

Your description of what the ear candle does seems to differ from how it is described in the video... She says that the ear wax is drawn up into the hollow body of the candle due to the movement of air up the candle.

  • The vacuum effect has been around a long time because of some residue in the candle. If you watch an ear candle burning, the smoke actually spirals DOWN the tube and out the bottom of the candle into the ear putting warmth and smoke into the ear softening the wax and treating any bacterial issues.

  • That doesn't make a great deal of sense... either the candle is creating a vacuum and pulling material up, or it is sending smoke and heat down into the ear... So why is this supposed professional stating that the candle is drawing stuff up? Why do ear candling demos end with the candle being opened to show what is inside (supposedly what came from the ear).

  • Ear Candles don't "suck" anything out of the ear. They draw heat and smoke down into the ear. The "residue" is usually debris from the burning candle. The bottom of the candle is tapered to a small hole to help funnel the smoke and keep debris out of the ear. In summary, I guess some people have the wrong idea how ear candling works. (my humble opinion)

  • @SDorje

some? I have watched many of the videos on ear candling and this is the first time I have heard that mentioned.... the very description of this video states that it pulls particulate matter out of the ear.

  • Everyone has an opinion about how everything works I guess. Massage, chiropractic, energywork, etc.

  • @SDorje and having an opinion does not make one correct... these things have to be tested scientifically, and all the tests I've seen on this subject show no effect, or even harmful effects.

  • It seems kinda wrong I am on the fence here, but one would think they would have created a sucking machine by now if it wa safe....you know

  • right, and besides, once you seal the ear off with a candle, how do you suck air through it, it's a sealed vacuum.

  • Where did u get those ear candle.....

  • thats how a blowjob works too

  • hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

  • WARNING! This crap is dangerous quakery! This practice is illegal in Canada for a reason It is complete fake and can damage one's ear!

  • Definitely dangerous. It can cause more harm than good because hot wax can drip down into your ear burning your ear drum. It's been proven wrong multiple times on youtube and by actual medical researchers. You can light the candle without it against an ear and get the same results. Don't believe Certified Massage therapists regarding stuff like this! If you have tension in your shoulders or back then go to them. Go to an ear, nose and throat doctor if you have problems with wax build up.

  • it dosent work right?

  • my aunt told me about this and said that afterward the candle literaly looks like an orange or yellow crayon

  • Of course one must always bear in mind that the medical profession has a vested interest in people not treating themselves. Money. It's the ultimate drug.

  • Ridiculous! So-called "alternative" medicine is also motivated by profit!

  • lol use the ear candle because it just feels good,

  • After the candle is removed you are supposed to pack cotton into the ear and keep it in there for an hour so the ear won't get infected since it is damp from the drop & the wax that was protecting the ear has been removed.

  • I am a Certified Massage therapist & we did this while I was in school. There is a special ear drop that you are supposed to put in the ear first then you insert the ear candle. It does work the light yellow clumps is soft wax & the harder darker clumps is the hard wax that had been in the ear for a while.

  • I did this and my hearing is so good I can hear gnats farting.

  • my friend chris did this and he said his hearing was so good he "could hear flies like talking"

  • Burn it without putting it in your ear.

The result will be the same.

  • Candles dont work, only paper cones work. Paper cones work cuz there is no was on it that goes into your ear.

  • paper cones have wax in the paper tho , they are all a con ! only wa y rto clean ears is to stop being a tramp and get uself in the shower

  • I am a qualified holistic therapist and i got trained that the yellow clumps of wax which is very yellow if ear wax all the rest is candle residue. It is obviously ear was in my experience as it isnt always visible in my clients, the candle residue is but the yellow hard clumps of wax isnt. It is unusual how people are being taught different things, i have also heard it isnt ear wax yet i have been taught it is.... so strange! Anyway great video thanks :o)

  • Can i put this in my nose?

  • @kavkazip Can i put this in my butt?

  • This is a good thing to do to yourself if you want to have serious ear damage.

  • no ear wax is removed from your ear while the procedure is occurring. Smoke and warmth enter the outer ear canal and work to soften, loosen, and help break-up ear wax that your body cannot naturally excrete on its own. The wax is not liquefied and it doesn't drip or drain out of your ear later. Instead, its texture becomes much softer, it's color becomes darker, and it falls out of your ear 1 to 5 days following the procedure (usually while you are sleeping) just like it happens normally.

  • that cute guy looks happy

  • If ear candling is good for clearing out the ear and ear function, could this also be applied to, being a less evasive, viable alternative to colonics?

  • No one knows whats right or wrong. She finds this right, therefore she thinks you are wrong. You however find it wrong. Its all a personal opinion. Just believe what you want and don't try to tell others or FORCE them to believe you are correct.

  • So if someone thinks the moon is made of cheese, thats OK because its THEIR opinion and facts are irrelevant?

  • Your stating something rhetorical, which is not related.

  • rdanelo is absolutely correct. Do look it up yourself, ear candling has been proven to do NOTHING but pose a threat to your ears in a variety of clinical studies.

  • "Expert Village"? Then why are you doing a video about a dangerous scam? Ask any ENT or audiologist and we will give you the real reasons not do try this. These holistic healer types know absolutely nothing about the ears. The "wax" the candles produce is inside the candle to begin with. SCAM.

  • And after this chick is finished burning the candle, she will read your palm and consult her crystal ball.

  • if u ever get a bug in your ear just shine a torch in your ear and the bug will find itself back out again :)

  • Ear Candelling is a lovely therapy but it shouldn't be given by those who have not been trained. The so-called 'chimmney effect' is nonsense though. The candle couldn't possibly create enough of a vacuum to remove ear wax by suction - to do that a much greater pressure would be needed. The wax in the bottom of the candle is indeed the wax from the candle but you will find that over a few days following treatment ear wax will disperse naturally.

Be wary of any therapist who says differently!

  • Then why is the wax yellow if it just wax from the candle you obviously dont know what you talking about

  • The wax is yellow because of the beeswax that the candle is made from. I am a professional therapist who offers Hopi Ear Candle treatments and I certainly know what I am talking about! The force of suction that would be required to lift wax from the ear canal would have to be so great that it would cause damage to the ear.

Be wary of a therapist that claims anything else and make sure they are usine candles that are certified safe for treatment like the Biosun ones. :)

  • That would make sense besides the fact that there is hardly any wax in your ears after the fact and you can hear much better after

  • @stonehouse0121 Ear Candles are NOT a traditional Hopi practice! You should be ashamed of distorting their culture!

  • Ear candles are a dangerous form of quackery! Go to the Quackwatch website

  • Ashes and candlewax --- that's all you get with this.

  • I remember having done this "treatment" years ago with bee wax candles and let me tell you this doesn't work. The suction the lady talks about does not happen. As for the wax being removed from your ears the only thing you are going to find in the middle part of the candle after the treatment is the candle's own melted wax. This thing works like a placebo, it only works if you believe it.

  • parafin should never be used, bees wax or soy.

  • wtf stick a candle in my ear!? i might as well stick a pickle in my ass...and dats prolly more healthy :)

  • ITs a hoax just another marketing wonder, they cost 10cents to make and sell for upwards of $3-$4 for 2. The only wax ull find is the wax from the candle, it doesnt create a vaccum and may damage your ear or even dopsit more wax from the candle. DO NOT DO THIS GO TO DOCTOR!!!! TRUST ME!!!

  • Would it be okay if I took a high powered vacuum cleaner and put the nozzle over my ear?

  • are you serious?

  • i got this done Friday at my school from a license massage therapist as she showed the advance class how to do it. i can tell you it's 100% real. the candle does leave a residue but that's like a protective covering that can be removed with peroxide. I bought the candles myself for 1.50 ea. (@ my school) you can buy them wholesale like a 50 or more for i guess around 20 dollars.

  • Go to Wikipedia and read the article about ear candles- I'm confident they do not work. And I was not being serious about using a high powered vacuum cleaner. :)

  • WOW! That is neat

  • cool. Where can we get ear candles?
