Amsterdam is one of my favorite places to visit. I have done several segments on day trips out of Amsterdam as well as some fun and unique places to see, like the "cat house." Nice video of Amsterdam, albeit a bit aged. However it does not do justice to the many aspects Amsterdam has to offer, even though a few were named outside of the well known tourist traps. Heck, I do daily videos from Amsterdam and even then, I get to discover new details and fun things about the city like every other day. The best experience though is probably by visiting for yourself. I recommend doing so between April 28 and May 7th with usually nice weather and 2 major one-day-festivals.

Amsterdam is so beautiful. I went there recently with my wife we booked our trip with Easy Military Travel and they were really helpful. I suggest going to Amsterdam as soon as you get the chance!
Amsterdam is definitely a place to go and like a lot of European cities full of nice old buildings and the whole bicycle thing gives it so much personality. it's crazy most of people from the Netherlands speak a lot of different languages.
If there is one really ugly and unsexy sounding language in Europe it is Dutch, at least the obscure dialect they speak in Amsterdam and The Hague. In Ghent, where I am now, it sounds very cultivated.

amsterdam is quite a messy city in parts and loads of trash everywhere. there are better places to visit. I personally am dissapointed with europe compared to north american cities like vancouver which have much nicer scenery
@thedutchman01 New York City actually feel's very old in my opinion; if you spend your time travelling around extremley modern and developed cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago and Las Vegas it's a really strange feeling once you drive around Jersey Cities winding stone streets, look at the old skyscrapers which almost look like Castle Towers and the best part of course is Brooklyn Bridge. But I do Agree nothing compares to Europe, though Personaly i prefer Rome, Athens, Monaco, Barcelona ect.

There are many foreigners in amsterdam, especially people from suriname (old colony), moroccans (the worst group of our society) and turkish (a bit less worse). If you're in amsterdam, really watch out for the moroccan youngsters because they will rob you and beat you for your money, and that isn't exaggerated. There isn't really poverty in my opinion, but there are neighbourhoods outside the center with many non-western immigrants which are poor.

I was small (like 4 years) so I stayed with grandma while my parent went there, and they were in love! The canals look BEAUTIFUL, as well as the Rijksmuseum, Artis Zoo etc. The only things I dislike is the legal prostitution and drugs.

Nice video of Amsterdam, albeit a bit aged. However it does not do justice to the many aspects Amsterdam has to offer, even though a few were named outside of the well known tourist traps. Heck, I do daily videos from Amsterdam and even then, I get to discover new details and fun things about the city like every other day. The best experience though is probably by visiting for yourself. I recommend doing so between April 28 and May 7th with usually nice weather and 2 major one-day-festivals.

1. Amsterdam is a city and therefore is not borderd by any country.

The distance between Amsterdam and the french boarder is about the same, as between Amsterdam and the german boarder: 250km
Paris is even closer to Amsterdam, then Berlin..
But you are right: The Netherlands do not share a boarder with France. There are about 50km of Belgium in between ;)

@thedutchman01 New York City actually feel's very old in my opinion; if you spend your time travelling around extremley modern and developed cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago and Las Vegas it's a really strange feeling once you drive around Jersey Cities winding stone streets, look at the old skyscrapers which almost look like Castle Towers and the best part of course is Brooklyn Bridge. But I do Agree nothing compares to Europe, though Personaly i prefer Rome, Athens, Monaco, Barcelona ect.

But from what I hear. Crime is rather high by dutch standards. Which means it is still rather low for alot of other places. Simple rule. Don't move around on your own. And don't ever buy drugs from a stranger on the street. Aka don't be an idiot ;)
And I have no idea how many americans live there. But near everyone speaks english.

There are many foreigners in amsterdam, especially people from suriname (old colony), moroccans (the worst group of our society) and turkish (a bit less worse). If you're in amsterdam, really watch out for the moroccan youngsters because they will rob you and beat you for your money, and that isn't exaggerated. There isn't really poverty in my opinion, but there are neighbourhoods outside the center with many non-western immigrants which are poor.

We are both young adults and they were threatning us on the train to give them our money. With a knife! I refused and told them to leave us alone. nothing happened after that.

@thedutchman01 I'm from Sweden and I TOTALLY LOVE AMSTERDAM! I've never been there, but well in Zandvoort. I was small (like 4 years) so I stayed with grandma while my parent went there, and they were in love! The canals look BEAUTIFUL, as well as the Rijksmuseum, Artis Zoo etc. The only things I dislike is the legal prostitution and drugs.

And yes. Very good to have noticed we are singing 'hup holland' While it is only a part of the country, it is historically, economically, culturally and politically the most important part of our country (especially from a historic pov.)

But what I did last night was go out and have a few beers with friends of mine downtown. Not watch stupi soaps.
Furthermore I would like to point out that the dutch workweek is the lowest in western europe (on average). but we are also the most productive during those hours so it evens out.
I know asia is beatifull. But there are pretty parts in teh Netherlands aswell. I dare you to look up pics of 'de biesbos' a nature reserve.

Beyond that, when polls/research is done, the dutch are always in the top 5 of happiest people in the world, so I don't really think our lifes are so miserable.
Germany works more per week, but they have alot more days off then the dutch, so I think it evens out in the end.

the buildings are all old, small and boring. the city itself is so small and crowded you feel you're gonna fall into a ditch any second. the canals are pathetically narrow. the whole country is so small and crowded with useless ugly shit that you can't even move freely or look into the horizon in that place.

Hmm, no huge open spaces? Even in Amsterdam you have the Vondelpark, a huge park by any standards, the museamplein (square) de dam with the national monument, also a rather big square.
And I will note that Amsterdam is the greenest capital of all of Europe.

I am proud of my countries take on drugs, yes. I see it as a much smarter and more succesfull way of dealing with the drug problem. This is enforced by numbers that show our country has some of the lowest counts of drug users in the entire world, e.g. The US, France UK etc all have higher % of drugusers, and those that do use drugs in those countries use more and for longer in comparison.
