PERHAPS ITS THE 'MOVEMENT' PART THAT BOTHERS, ONE NEEDS NAMES AND IMAGES LIKE ADDRESSES FOR RECOGNIZING, BUT KEEPING THE VALUE ON INDIVIDUALS - EACH MANIFESTING SPIRIT- SOME GIFTED. ISN'T IT ABOUT A QUALITY OF SPIRIT THAT COMES FROM INDIVIDUALITY AND THE PERSONAL, AVOIDING DANCING EXTERNAL 'MOVEMENTS' OVER OUR OWN?
Reading some of these comments...me thinkings some people don't get the point. Amanda Palmer is attached to this movement going on around New York and Boston-- "Anti-Social Music". This is pretty much cabaret punk. Me being an enormous fan of the 1920s and punk, it's only natural I love Amanda Palmer's style, and World/Inferno Friendship Society among other cabaret punk bands. Anywhoo, what I'm saying is that she is part of this movement.. she is purposely mixing cabaret-style with punk ideals.
Punk has only developed into this "style" and fashion, particularly when given it's name. But it ORIGINALLY was just individuals. Nothing specific. Just. INDIVIDUALS. THAT is punk. But as soon as you think you're doing something punk, it becomes not "punk". That's the best way for it to be describe it. It's an abstract idea. Like authenticity.
As for the Green Day comment: STFU. Unless you take the time to learn about ANY band, your opinion is moot.
the stage is bigger than before but the music is not underground and indie taste anymore ,the whistle sounds like a wrong freestyle ,really amanda i hope you can go back the feeling when you sing these old songs,a voice from China ~
At this point I would like to state that just because you are in a 'punk' band you are not automatically an expert in the field. Hell. I know people who think that 'Green Day' is punk so I can't expect every body to understand that 'Punk' is more than 'three chords in three minutes'.
BTW: AFP herself describes her music as "Post-Brechtian Caberet Punk", whatever the hell that is...
I'm not saying you are wrong, just that your definition of 'punk' seems a little narrow.
Isn't it lovely that Amanda can walk through a crowd of fans without some psychopath trying to rip off her clothes and molest her? I love how not crazy we all seem to be (the fans, that is).
Amanda, you are a cocktease for putting this up and not coming out to Chicago. WE LOVE YOU! Come see us, please! We will give you yummy scones and lots of alcoholic beverages!
This must have been fucking amazing. Even without Brian's drums, the horns alone add so much to the performance. (At least judging from Mandy Goes to Med School.) I'm so jealous that I live on the west coast. :)
I have been sick in bed the last few days and this video just took me to a fantastic place. The entrance through the crowd reminded me of the Arcade Fire.
I hope she does another NY show. I was supposed to go to this one for my birthday with a close friend of mine, but we hadn't situated a ride from the concert until the day I got the tweet about it selling out. /:
However, that doesn't change the fact that Miss Palmer is AMAZING and has the most outstanding stage presence I've ever seen in, well, anyone! I really hope I can attend a show soon..! :) <3
I was at this show too. I shook ( grabbed ) her hand in the stairwell while trying eagerly NOT to be just "another" AFP fan. We are the same age and I believe I am too old to crave the attention of someone who has billions of "me." But when she did the "House of the Rising Sun" cover, it was hitting me on a whole new level. My father died. That was his song to me. I hate being just another "fan."
A beautiful, magical night documenting a beautiful, magical, incomparable woman. Kudos to Flipswitch Films for highlighting just the right moments, and creating their own work of art.
AND I called the whole Back of House Entrance thing. I leaned to my friend in excitement and said Wouldn't it be great if she and the band just walked through the crowd from the band and clambered on stage?!?
YES.
(At 6:14, a girl kissed Amanda, and Amanda went back to kiss her. Their faces are not in the frame.)
i was there! one of the best shows i've ever seen in my whole. I'm from
Brooklyn, but I live in California. I've seen you performing in LA, but
seeing you in Brooklyn was a total different thing... way way better. I don't know if i was excited that I was in my hometown, but that gig touched my soul. FOREVER.
Ah hah, so this is what Amanda Palmer looks like in fine form! I had the interesting experience of seeing her at the Fire Arts Fest in Oakland, CA....and it must have been an extremely off night. Still a fan though, and hoping for her to return to CA at some point.
The muthafuckamuthafuckamuthafucka reminded me of something I used to do with my chem class- except we said "Muh muh hugguh" -- our version of mmHg (milliimeters of mercury, unit of pressure). We'd get about five of us going, one person starting at a normal pitch, then someone really low and another really high.
So you can see how that just kind of made my day.
Best way ever to go on stage! Amanda is friggin awesome and they are all appearing to really enjoy each other's company... I simply love it!

it is extremely narrow. because ive learned over the years so many people try to be all objective about it. BUT IT IS NOT.
punk is a type of music, and a type of style.
and thats it. being so open about punk music insults me as a musician and as a huge fan of the genre
and i didnt say being in a band makes me an expert. im just saying, i do know what im talking about. NOT AN EXPERT. but i do know.
since punk rock is completely my life.
