  • Greetings from Morocco

  • magique, bravo!

  • Great music

  • love it

  • can anyone tell me the song title please?

  • @ixicnika 'Al vaiven de mi caretta'

  • VIVA CUBA !

    VIVA FIDEL !!!

    VIVA LA UNION SOVIETICO

  • The dawn approaches

    the roosters are crowing

My friend their saying , the days work ahead

I work from January to January , and from sunup to sundown ,

to earn so little money from my sweat .

( the African part ive no idea )

The year passes whipping the oxen and i dont doubt that at the end of the year ( then he mumbles something )

Sad life of the Cartman , who passes thru the canefields , knowing that his life is an exile .

He becomes happy with his songs.

  • @tinymorte ( then he mumbles something ) = "pineapple, mamey and sapote" (tropical fruits very common in Cuba) but this basically means that arduous work produces nothing. So the meaning is that after a hard year's work, he will have nothing in the end.

  • i absolutely love everything about this.

  • just saw their show two days ago here in quebec. i must say it were way over my expectations! la crème de la crème ;)

Check out their tour dates on the World Circuit website.

  • This is World music for real guys, who is missing? No one!

  • Great musicians, all of them. And they all seem to appreciate what the other players are doing.

Toumani, as usual, looks like the greatest fan of whoever has the spotlight at the moment.

  • SZIGET 2011

  • LOVE.

  • Great

  • What an amazing line up, i am getting the chills listening to this, imagine what it would do if I could understand what they were sayin, even still, I just interpret the vocals as its own instrument, splendido!

  • lush...

  • see you on roskilde festival

  • What it is it about this music? I have no idea what the hell he's singing about but I respond to it immediately. And if this really is the first take on the first day, wow! They sound like they were born playing together.

  • This is what good latin music sounds like. Not that electronic crap. No tricks.

  • Did they made a CD ??. Please send me the info so i can buy it at ones. Meastro,s for ever

  • Esto si es musica!!!!!!!!!! :-)

  • Any chance Eliades Ochoa or this group coming to Houston Texas? This sound is amazing, I'd like to see them in person.

  • This is wonderful!

  • F*ck'n phenomenal!!

  • This album is amazing - takes it way further. We need to bring it all together more. But shame it could not be with Compay and Ibrahim! But it is still amazing. 10/10.

  • Went to the concert yesterday in Berlin. It was truly wonderful, and I feel privileged to have been there! Danke schön!

  • I was at their concert yesterday. My mind is blown. Let them call themselves whatever they wish :) Guys are great.

  • ... forgot the electric guitar player from Mali & the Cuban contrabass player...

  • Saw them live in Brussels (Belgium) yesterday : 5 musicians from Mali ( a singer, an electric banjo player, 2 percussionists, among which a djembe player, an electric harp player) and as many from Cuba (besides Eliades Ochoa, 2 for the brass and 2 others for back-up vocals and other more "marginal" instruments). Their best songs are those where both musical styles merge into one original ensemble. It was a classical theatre, yet everyone was standing up, dancing ! WONDERFUL EVENING !

  • How can it be cubism? Isn't cubism something entirely different? Check out cubism on wikipedia to learn what cubism is.

Afro-cubanism would be the correct term I guess?

  • @jlpktnst : i think it's pretty obvious to everyone this project's got nothing to do w/ Picasso... Then again, if you look @ some cubist paintings and listen to this music, knowing the philosophical background of the collaboration, you might see some similarities...

  • I hope see Afrocubism in Melkweg/Amsterdam in 2 days. Will prob be touched to tears. Could not buy album in NYC. Come on folks!

  • Comment removed

  • I just saw them live last night in Boston. Moved to tears. Feels just like when Buena Vista first came out. Spellbinding, mesmerizing...I haven't been this excited about a musical group/project in a very very long time. Ever grateful... Viva Afrocubism!

  • Nostalgic, I dig this stuff.

  • I just saw them live tonight in Oslo. Their first concert ever. Enjoyed it very much.

  • :@ woah! ...its a shame ali farka toure wasn't alive when they recoded this.. it was a sad moment wen i thought about how incredible it would be if ali with his guitar had been standing there as the camera panned round the studio,.. its a shame he's not still alive today.. this is a beautiful time for world music.

  • @laurence51515 and Orlando 'Cachaito' Lopez too....He did so so many records for World Circuit. I guess they were in a better place now...playing with Ruben Gonzalez, Angá Diaz, Ibrahim and all the folks.

  • Wow! Can't wait to hear more!

  • This new album surely represents the absolute cream of Africa, Cuba and Senegal, and the cream of their musical histories too.

This taster is just so thrilling that I played the video 7 times and I'm still hungry!

The idea of Toumani Diabate, Kasse Mady Diabate, Djelimady Tounkara, Eliades Ochoa and Bassekou Kouyate together on one album has me in an ecstasy of expectation.

Well done to these magnificent musicians and much respect to Worldcircuit and Nick Gold for finally bringing this one off.

  • So beautiful.....

  • This is mind blowing music.

  • Cant wait for the NYC show on Nov 9th at Town Hall!

  • Awesome!

I finally caught this one before they toured.. in 1998 I Missed BVSC @ Carnegie, sad, and never to be repeated, but I will make it for Nov in NYC.

  • If this is a taster.. what would the final recording be?

I can't thank you enough World Circuit. This is a genial work.

Can't wait to watch them at the Barbican.

    Bless.

  • Djelimady Tounkara + Toumani Diabate + Kasse Mady Diabaté = Instant purchase. They could be taping a jam session in a closet and I'll still buy it lol

  • @Slaphappy1975 + Eliades Ochoa...

  • I will pre-order this record no matter what, because it has my favourite musicians playing together - Eliades, Toumani, Kasse Mady Diabaté, Basekou Kouyaté... That's a dream team!

But I do hope this track doesn't make the record. This has been on three World Circuit records! There are other great guajiras. Why recording the same again and again?!

I do appreciate that finally someone has put these Cubans and Africans to play together. It was about frikking time!

    Peace.

  • Aaaahhh finallyyy !!!

  • this sounds great...but there's more african than cuban players, I guess...and I miss All Stars in there...like in Buena Vista Social Club. ohhhh...and I think that this studio don't have the same feeling as the EGREM, specialy in reverb...the same reverb that we listen in BVSC series.

But, talking about the music itself....is great, this is good music...not that Lady Gaga shit

  • @VitorVitoriaBaia - if you include Grupo Patria then there are just as many Cubans as Africans on the album. Be aware that this is just the first ever take and not the final version that will appear on the album, so expect the usual high quality in sound that you're accustomed to with World Circuit releases when you listen to the finished album.

  • @worldcircuitltd and you're right. the final recording is amazing. It got that special ambience in sound, high quality indeed. I didn't notice before, but this was recorded in the great Livingstone Studios right? And the music....ohhhhhh the music, amazing. Thanks for that World Circuit!

  • Beautiful --- working for peace and this music whould go out for the OSCAR --

  • @VitorVitoriaBaia African vs. Cuban players?? I think they're all Cuban.... lol.

  • @cristinachenal i guess you don't know much about this type of music :P This are players from Cuba and Mali. Did you watch the video? lol....all the dark skin players here are African,, as they'r instruments (can you tell the diference between an African instrument and a Cuban one?). And the also have African names. And the second guy singing it's not singin it in castelhano right?:P

  • thak thank thank you

  • greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

  • fabulous, looking forward to the album with more obvious balancing of the african musicians. Hoping to make this happen live in Edinburgh!

  • cuban music is basically african music so the african musicians add a little more beauty and a twist to it I really love this as when Ibrahim Ferrer sang with Baobab or the african singer sings in chanchullo with Ruben Gonzales and Ibrahim this is High quality music

  • With all due respect Mdubuque this is a Nico Saquito composition not a Guillermo Portabales'

  • Thanks for the nice comments everyone.

About the latest comment: as stated at the beginning of the video, this is only the FIRST take of the track, not the final one that will end up on the album. You will hear plenty of balafon, ngoni and kora on it!

  • Nice music, but if you took away the Malian musician's would it actually sound much different? I don't think it would. The balafon and kora seem lost amidst the general orchestration. Will probably buy the album and look out for the tour though.

  • Once Eliades started singing I knew it was going to be awesome. Such an awesome array of musicians. Just think if we could unite musicians from "opposing countries". Bring them into a studio and create something new! La musica es la vida!

  • Super, thankzzz

  • Very good clip. Excellent....

  • Super Super.

    Thank you.

    KASSE MADY number 1.

  • Super. I hope you have additional Guillermo Portabales compositions on the CD.... his music is a world treasure, as is Eliades!

  • Hola Eliades! You are the best!

    Greetings from Italy!
