JL was AMAZING in these courtroom scenes. But I also gotta give props to Anthony Call, who played Herb Callison. Probably one of the best performances by a lawyer during a trial I've ever scene. Simply superb, all the way around.
@AWeberF222 Anthony Call was absolutely amazing as Herb Callison. He was my favorite attorney in soaps. He was just as mesmerizing 10 years after this during the murder trial of Cord's mother, Maria Roberts. When he got Tina to confess the truth about baby Al
This is incredible. I was about 12 when this was being broadcast. I had been home from school on occasion enough to see this show. I was so captivated by the character of Karen Wolek and her plight and by Judith Light's acting I never forgot. After all these years I am finally seeing this incredible scene and what became of "Karen". I can't imagine a more extraordinary performance than this.
Amazing. I am completely amazed. I don't think I could cry like that. I can make myself cry, but not like she did. Brava!! Magificent, Incredible,Terrific,Glorious,Stupendus,Superb,Excellent,Awesome,Cool,Great,Good,Nice,Stupilicilandus!!! She did such a AWESOME job, no words can describe her. Go JL!!! You ROCK!!!
I am so jealous that you actually got to meet her!! I absolutely love her and would die to meet her!! I would also love to see her perform on stage.. I bet it was just amazing.. I wanna be an actress just like her someday!:)
Wow--I just commented on the previous clip--I'm so glad I waited for Judith to come out last night after her Broadway show "Lombardi"--I had to tell her how great she was in it--and how I enjoyed her as Karen Wolek. A very nice person--and she allowed me to have her photo taken with her.
This scene is incredible. I watched the show in college. Having just watched this clip at my desk in the office, I was shaking inside and tears filled my eyes! Brava! Outstanding, Judith!
@athenais508 I got to meet her after the show too. :) Thanks for the tip. She is very nice and very pretty indeed...and she rocks in "Lombardi"---very funny.
GENIUS!!! Where is the next part of this clip, when Karen tells that Talbot Huddleston ran over Brian Kendell with the car and Pat Kendell stands up in court and say's "Briiiiiiiiiiiiiiiian...!!! " PLEASE UPLOAD THAT SCENE IF YOU CAN!!!!! xoxo
Beautiful acting and writing in this scene. I had forgotten that soap operas used to be this good. Judith Light -- what an awesome actress! Thanks for posting this.
I watched this scene when I was 14 years old. it was compelling then as it is now. She RIPPED THIS SCENE APART!!! I still have not scene another Day time Actress blow my mind like Judith light. you go sistahgirl!!! whereever you are. much love!! what happen to day time. they don't show stuff like this anymore.
@nefreteri2000 They'd rather show us raunchy sex nowdays(no storyline material). I was right when I told my junior high school teacher that soaps are not the same as the 70's and 80's. She refused to believe me but I think she knows now.
@nefreteri2000 yeah what can daytime do now that hasn't been done a thousand times already. It's just like a one hour after dark program that you'd more likely find on HBO(from the waist up) where's the family values, the larger than life characters and incredible storylines...great cliffhangers and love(not lust or sex mind you) in the afternoon?
I used to watch all the ABC soaps back then and this is the one scene I can remember like it was yesterday. Even more than Luke and Laura on General hospital. Even back then, I knew I was witnessing greatness. Judith Light was absolutely brilliant!
@woperinoboyz yeah this is a trillion times bigger than Luke and Laura. I don't think I would have approved with all the other girls that watched this that L@L belonged together(maybe it's me but I could never marry my rapist, better yet I couldn't leave a good upstanding husband for one)
I am in my mid-40's and watched this show whenever I could. I was enamored of her early and have been a fan of Judith Light ever since. Seeing this I am entranced all over again! I met her briefly in the 80's. Saw her live in the play "Wit" around 1999 or so. She was remarkable. She is one of the all time greats and very underrated. Except for those of us who know. Thanks for posting. A tribute to a radiant talent!
Oh you're so lucky to have met her!!! It's so wonderful to hear from people who like her too. too bad i haven't scene any re-runs of OLTL. Pls pm me when you have news about re-runs with Judith in it. Thanks. :)
@chocolatesouljah A lot of ppl watched OLTL back then. Not so much have watched in the 90's and after right up to today. So those who watched before 1976 and through the 80's do know there was a Karen Wolek before an Angela Bower and all the other things after.
Wow apparently this was before I was born? I luv this scene. I mean i'm used to seeing Judith Light as Judge Donnelly but to see her like this on stand??? great acting on her part.
It really was such an emotially charged scene. And by this time we had SO much time invested in Karen it was sad to see her break and have to spill all.
This is one of the most brilliant, compelling scenes of daytime drama in history. Judith Light's acting is flawless as is the writing, production and everything about it. "One Life To Live" is currently at another creative peak under the head writing of Ron Carlivati. The 40th Anniversary shows were perfect except for one thing, they did not bring Judith Light as Karen back to pay tribute to that particular breakout of the show. It was riveting, astonishingly emotional and ahead of it's times.
Judith is truly an astounding and exceptional actress. We have a lot of talented actresses but no one quitecompares to Judith Light. I wonder why she wasn't included in 40th anniversary show. That courtroom scene was so poignant and her acting so powerful that drama universities use that scene for training their drama students.
I also give props to the wordless face of Brynn Thayer.

Still one of my FAVORITE moments on OLTL...the other was when Karen admitted to Viki that she was a hooker. POWERFUL SCENE.
It USED to be on You Tube.

I wish I could see that. If I find it, I'll put it here so everyone can see the depth of Judith's talent as an actress.
judithellenlicht 3 years ago
Oh I hope you can find it...I still remember part of the dialogue of at wonderful scene...
Karen: "Trick, John, Number....Number, I think that's my favorite.*
And she had this wicked laugh as she delves deeper into her secret life for good and sweet Viki.
HEE HEE.
