  • I bet these guys influenced bands like at the drive in and the fall of troy

  • everything after this sucks

  • Almost everyone that bitches about music on the internet has/does browse /mu/.

  • apples

  • puissant morceau!

  • I got here as result of a list of bands that influenced the math-rock genre. And I disovered that this shit blows away all genres and is just great fucking music. So shut the fuck up and listen to this good stuff

  • Best band ever

  • i think the energy on stage (in belgium "the pits") is something i never forget, still listening like it was yesterday :p)

  • How do u pronounce Jehu?

    Is it like Yeh-oo?

  • @JollyJollyJoseph Its like Jay- Hoo

  • I have finally found Post-Avant Jazzcore. Legit.

  • >bitch about genres

    >get 10,000 thumbs up

  • @thefistheserpent Haha, indeed. The sole purpose I added an 'emo' tag was to get people that would find SHITTY music onto a page with an amazing boogie like Jehu... Shit, people, is it really such a crime?

  • @rabrabrabbit yeah but jehu were one of the originators of the old defintion of the emo genre

  • @thefistheserpent >yfw

    >no greentext on youtube

  • >greentexting

    >youtube

  • polka micro-dot epoch-calypso i reckon

  • i think that they are vangardish-punk-polka

  • sounds like cartman

  • @Lone06 you must get this funny keen observation comment to Trey and Matt South Park creators ; they'd go with it in the best way possible i'd expect

  • can't we just have rock, pop, metal, punk, shoegaze, dance and indie i'm sure you can fit the vast majority of bands into those categories. the sheer amount of subgenres is confusing.

  • @nikt Shoegaze and Indie debatably are subgenres

  • @nikt if you want it to be less confusing, it's more like Pop, Rock, metal, punk, indie, electronic, Rap, RnB.

Shoegaze doesn't have nearly enough artists to be a major genre and dance is part of a wide spectrum of electronic music(unless you're referring to dance punk which is a subgenre of punk). I added Rap, RnB,and Pop because those are all distinctly different from the others.

  • @nikt Shoegaze isn't a genre, its a singing style.

  • @11twsister no.

  • @11twsister You are just, well...completely wrong.

  • @Bend5492 Ok name me a shoegaze band. Entertain my insanity for a sec.

  • @11twsister My Bloody Valentine. Ever heard of them?

  • @11twsister my bloody valentine are a great ex.

  • @11twsister No dumbass, you ever hear of Michael Paget!?!?! He is THE shoegazer and last I recall he doesnt sing lead.

  • I was thinking they were more a combination of post funkadelic psychobilly crossed with satanic communist gospel folk punk.

  • The best, sonic heaven.

  • They're definetely a funk band. Definetely.

  • Jehu!!!! one of the GOATS.. this entire album is pure fire.

  • Best beginning to any song ever...

  • ah i can see where heavyheavylowlow get their influence from now...

  • San Diego sound...very different than midwest....

  • makes me proud to live in san diego

  • Sometimes I think :God this guy drives like Jehu, but I m going for the albums right now!!!meaning buying them...

  • braid really wanted to be this band!

  • Awesome. Reminds me of Fugazi a bit.

  • I love you all

  • Kinda reminds me of Big Black.

  • You know what kind of music this is? It's called Drive Like Jehu. So shut the fuck up.

  • I was into these dudes before anyone. Wanted me to be their manager. I called bullshit on that. Managing a math rock group is no job for a man.

  • *and not just for an encore set here or there that I'll never get to see becuz I'm not out west*

  • I guess this could be considered math rock.

The stop-and-go style with the guitar.

    This is sick stuff nonethelesss.

  • Its funny how Drive Like Jehu is all over Wikipedia and music sites everywhere, yet very few people actually know about them. I heard about them only cuz of my older cousin, im 21 and hes 32 he used to play them all the time when I was just a little kid maybe 3 or 4, he used to also play Fugazi and Helmet all the time. Too bad post hardcore turned pussy, my generation fucked it all up.

  • "genre" is an irrelevant french word that we should all pledge to never say again..

  • @notseymour i love your reply. and i hate the term math rock. like really?

  • love drive like jehu though! i think i like hot snakes more nowadays though.

  • @JellothecatMitchell pitchfork was better than the snakes

  • @sunchild90 i like pitchfork too...to be perfectly honest, it would be hard for me to actually pick a favorite froberg/reis band. i go back and forth between the 3 or just play them all at once usually.

Obits (Froberg) is pretty good too, without Reis- but the only album i've heard from them was pretty good. i still just wish the two would collab again.

  • best disco song ever!

  • yes good shit ----why are you guys dorks!

  • if it wasnt for jehu, botch wouldnt exist. proper emo

  • if it wasnt for jehu, botch wouldnt exist

  • my word i would have loved to see these boys live. if it wasnt for these guys botch wouldnt exist

  • DLJ is considered EMO, real EMO not this new 2000's horrible emo crap. EMO is partially derived form Hardcore punk, so Post-Hardcore also fits. SO sad what people think is emo today.

  • Comment removed

  • Favorite song of the 90s

  • deftones covered this song they did really good

  • @TheDrgreenthump FUCK YEAH THEY DID. i was at the show in ventura last week. i couldnt believe how badass they were. im sorry, but they cranked DLJ's song up to 11. fucken awesome.

  • This song would be ILL on guitar hero..

  • pleasure is your crime, junior is your punishment

happens all the time, everybody rub it in.

  • Great song...

But this is not a video.

  • CHECK OUT THE BAND BIG ELEPHANT ON MYSPACE MUSIC!

  • this song is about teenage pregnancy anger???? I dont know

  • @slowblood99 lol good 1... ik i willnever be ::D

  • @slowblood99 i get the idea it's about teenage pregnancy but about how the girl is automatically deemed a slut basically after and the hardship that person is going through. i think at least. i just know to head bang once it gets going

  • pleasure is your crime, junior is your punishment

happens all the time, everybody rub it in.

  • i met a girl named gracie and we were talking about music and i told her about drive like jehu and then i played this song for her. AWKWARD MOMENT!

  • @DigitalBath naaaaaaah man, sorry to be "that guy" but naaaaaaaaaaah

  • this song is sick.

  • @DigitalBath it's a carbon copy, really.

  • Post hardcore is the fucking shit! \m/

  • When people call whiny pop punk "emo" I direct them to this. Emo is post hardcore, and dead over 10 years ago.

I wish I could have seen this band live. As close as I will ever get was seeing The Hot Snakes play Bullet Train to Vegas. One of the most thrilling live music experiences of my life.

  • @rossdigitalfire I saw them live twice in the UK in the mid-late 90's.... they didn't disappoint.

  • @rossdigitalfire Is Drive Like Jehu even emo? I thought they were just post-hardcore.

  • yyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

  • Meh. Might like it better if the link I followed wasn't so hyped up.

  • that pic is hardcore!

  • it definitely takes off from Fugazi, and it definitely influenced Refused.... and it's a helluva lot better then any new-school hardcore (imo)

  • This song is awesome. I cant wait to hear the deftones cover this.

Diamond Eyes is the shit and it will continue to be the shit throughout summer(At least for me).

  • deftones covering this one on the itunes version of diamond eyes

  • @tommyjohnson43 yeah its hella good

  • @tommyjohnson43 where can one find that version on here

  • I barely found out about these guys and they kick ass already...Post-Hardcore is dope as hell...

  • dood if you dig this check out faraquet, shellac, cinemechanica, akarso, and medications(especially their old album) but jehu is definitely the best of their genre

  • Arr they don't make 'em like they used to. Hehe.

  • Huh, I never knew the song lyrics where about pregnancy. That's awesome.

And, yeah, "Caress" was the song that introduced me to my DLJ and beyond obsession.

  • Did these guys influence Refused? I'm pretty sure they were before them, but I dunno if they had any meaning to Refused.

  • i thought the very same thing upon first hearing this tune. in fact i thought drive like jehu were influenced by refused then saw the date this came out and was like dayumm.

    Ever heard jarcrew?

  • They were around 1 year before Refused

, but the people in refused were already in other hardcore bands before that so i dont know probly not.

  • frikkin awesome band

  • Mmm, good stuff.

  • reminds me of refused....

  • awesome song

  • why does this song reminded me of one of leathermouth's?

  • the singing in this particular song reminds me of Big Black, alot.

  • Great fuckin Band!

  • Can anyone suggest any good mathcore bands around recently.

The last one that really impressed me was Sweep the Leg Johnny, which was a while ago.

  • Reminds me of Patton Oswalt

  • Cinemechanica

STLJ was one of my favorite bands ever.

  • Sweep the Leg Johnny fucking rules. I could help you with math rock, but as for mathcore, the best I can do is Dillinger Escape Plan and Converge, which you prolly know.

  • Holy shit, this song is awesome. Holy motherfuck, I've never heard music like this.

  • Drive Like Jehu were one of the very first math rock bands, and very best, even for today's standards.

  • Dude, I need to check out these guys. I was reading about mathcore influencers and Drive Like Jehu were pretty high up there.

  • @keymaster2 check out pitchfork

  • @007yaknow PITCHFORK FTW

  • @keymaster2 where have you been?! lol!

  • This song had lyrics?

What's your source, interpreted or verified?

  • Most of the lyrics are pretty obvious

  • @rabrabrabbit

lyrics are not obvious when you are not english is not your first language

  • @PlasticMarx Well that's pretty obvious...

  • @rabrabrabbit

So some of us need them =P

  • @jontk lolololololol

  • @jontk

Lyrics are included in the LP vinyl of the album...

  • woow, ive never heard of this band before, but i guess im totally amazed !! they are so good !

  • FUKIN GREAT SONG and BAND

  • awesome song...great band!!! anything John Reis is involved with is great.

If you have any Tanner let me know.

  • this is math rock?

  • yes sir

  • @rabrabrabbit imo it's not really math rock, more of a post-hardcore band. although post-hardcore has some math rock influences

  • @rabrabrabbit What?! This is post-hardcore!

  • @rabrabrabbit you reckon this is math rock?

i'd call it post hardcore really.

  • @postyman86 well that'd be more true if this band didn't form in the 90's, well before hardcore was a popular genre.

  • @jeeshwa123 yeah fair enough, but then what about fugazi?

they were formed in the 80's, were they always considered post-hardcore? or did that term come later?

  • @postyman86 I think post-hardcore came later, because of the word "post", usually they just call these bands hardcore punk or something (any correction would be greatly appreciate)

  • @MegaVietNam yeah fair enough, but then i also think about post-punk and post-rock, these terms might've come later with the genres

  • @postyman86 postpunk = Knickleback, I think, although he did a pretty bad job renewing the grunge music...

    post-rock ... no idea

  • @MegaVietNam Post-punk was in the 80's. Nickleback certainly should not be mentioned in the same breath as post-punk.

  • @amaddb04 sorry I knew their music is horrible, it's just that somebody told me so

  • @MegaVietNam Oh, no problem. I was just letting you know what post-punk was.

  • @postyman86 they are technically considered (ready?) "emotive rock". this is why sub-genres are stupid xD

    it's good alternative. :)

  • @jeeshwa123 well isn't that just lovely

  • @postyman86 : yes, fugazi 1st started playing shows in 87.i was at all the early shows and opened for them 4 times.they fall into the post hc genre, but had firm roots in not just dc hc,but strong foundations in early punk which covers a much wider spectrum.its ok to use labels,as long as we clearly and throughly define what we are saying.

  • @pokmon1200 no

  • @pokmon1200 ???

    WTF ? its post-punk / post-hardcore :s

dude go learn shit about music!

  • They dont make music like this

  • Its spelled people. Nice trolling attempt, next time watch the spelling, its important when trying to voice your opinion. It will make you seem more intelligent than you really are. Also get your caps lock key fixed, so your comment can be read easier, and therefore change peoples lives faster. See what I'm getting at?

  • :)

    good game

  • @AuronShinobi well played sir.

  • bro oldskul yeah!!!!!!!

  • fucking is your crime? Juinor is your punishment!
